Dear parishioners and visitors, It is tradition in the universal Church to celebrate Mission Sunday on the third Sunday in October. The Church makes us aware that her missionary work continues by bringing the Catholic Faith throughout the world. Just as we have been blessed to have the Church in our nation for several centuries, the Church continues to bring the Gospel of Christ to foreign and remote lands. The Diocese of La Crosse has had the great reputation supporting this missionary effort. Please continue to support our Catholic missionaries in your prayers, thoughts, and charitable giving. This is our way to be a part of the apostolic work of the Church even though it is impossible for most of us to travel and bring that message to others. To our parishioners, there should be an envelope in your monthly packet for your donation. If you are not a member, there is a limited number in the nave of the Cathedral. If you cannot =nd one, so mark it on any envelope you use by stating it is for Mission Sunday. Thank you and God bless you. Msgr. Stoetzel The intercession this week is to pray for the good work and safety of our Catholic missionaries serving in foreign lands. SOLEMNITY OF ALL SAINTS The Solemnity of All Saints is a holyday of obligation this year on Thursday, November 1st. The Mass times will be published in the bulletin next weekend. The Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, lectors and servers from the parish are asked to assist. The sign-up sheet is in the sacristy. PERMANENT DEACON ORDINATION Five men will be ordained to the Permanent Diaconate by Bishop Callahan on Saturday, October 27, at 9:30 am, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman. They are Thomas Anderson of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish in Wisconsin Rapids, Kevin Breit of St. Paul Parish in Mosinee, Kent Jacobson of St. Mary Parish in Galesville, Michael Lambrecht of St. Therese Parish in Rothschild, and Richard Skifton of Sacred Heart Parish in Nekoosa. A reception at the La Crosse Center (300 Harborview Plaza) will follow the Mass. If you are unable to attend the Mass, you can watch live at diolc.org/live.
CATHEDRAL BOOK CLUB The Cathedral Book Club has made a minor change to their book of choice in October. Instead of reading and discussing From Islam to Christ by Derya Little on Thursday, October 25, the book club will be reading Little Women, authored by Louisa May Alcott. From Islam to Christ will be read and discussed on March 28 next year. Everyone is welcome to join the Cathedral Book Club in all of its activities.
NEW EMAIL ADDRESS Effective immediately, Edward, the Cathedral Administrative Assistant, has a new email address as follows: [email protected] By the time you read this, Edward’s former email address will de=nitely no longer work. LITURGICAL SCHEDULES - LAST CALL! October 22 is the deadline for turning in dates you will be gone in November and December 2018. Preparation of the November and December liturgical schedules begins Tuesday, October 23. Dates received after October 22 will not be honored. Please email your away dates to [email protected]. If you are a snowbird and plan to be away, please provide us with your tentative departure and arrival dates so you are not scheduled while you are away. Thank you!
HONORING OUR VETERANS The Family Life Committee will be honoring veterans with a reception in The Gathering Area on Sunday, November 11th. If you have any memorabilia you would like to share for display, please contact us. We will have a table set up for everyone to enjoy the photos, keepsakes or articles, and will return your items to you after the event. Please call Carol B. at 498-9713.
LIFESAVERS FOR LIFE Knights of Columbus Council 839 will be distributing LifeSavers and accepting donations on November 3 and 4 after all of the weekend Masses to support Pro-Life activities in La Crosse and Wisconsin. Please be generous! May God bless you!
PARISH BULLETIN Tentatively the weekend of November 10 and 11, readers will see the bulletin in a new format. Because there will be two less pages, space will be limited. Therefore, it is imperative that announcements arrive three plus weeks ahead of the print date.

Bulletin Deadline: The Cathedral Bulletin deadline is 4:00 pm each Monday.
Weekly Message From
After =nishing this, Jesus tells us “not a parable” but “a truth. When the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, he passes through waterless places seeking rest; and =nding none he says: ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes he =nds it swept and put in order. The man who lives there is free. Then he goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the =rst. The condition of that man before the demon was driven out of his life was better than this one". The Holy Father pondered the signi=cance of Jesus’ words and of this event. It is symbolic, he explained. The Lord “takes the =gure of those demons in the desert, wandering, suffering. Let us consider that when Jesus casts out these demons – which are called ‘legions’ because there are so many – and they ask to be sent among the swine, because they do not want to roam in the desert”.

COATS FOR KIDS PROGRAM The Coats for Kids Program is seeking new and gently used winter wear items including coats, hats, gloves, snow pants, boots, and scarves. Starting this weekend, the Cathedral will once again have tubs near the Fourteen Holy Helpers display in the Gathering Area and also in the Narthex in the corner by the Holy Water dispenser. Over the years so many of you have been so generous in this endeavor of ensuring our little ones have proper attire to keep warm. Many families in our community lack the means to provide warm clothing for their children, let alone a basic coat, hat and gloves. Your continued support is greatly welcomed and appreciated. The Cathedral will run this program from October 20 to November 25 (Solemnity of Christ the King).
LA CROSSE COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DINNER Thursday, November 22, the 37th Annual La Crosse Community Thanksgiving Dinner will take place. As in the past, the Cathedral has been asked to supply green beans for this community event. More details next week.
