MESSAGE FROM THE CEO

Dear Member,

As we fast approach the middle of the year, I wish to welcome Mr Andrew Cleverley to the position of General Manger at seagulls Club. Andrew has worked as the GM of many remote hotel properties in Cairns, New Zealand and Rydges in Thredbo resort.

As we look to operate seagulls more autonomously, Andrew will drive a positive interaction with our members. I mentioned in the last Tweed Talk the need to get back to basics and Andrew will be the catalyst for such engagement as we aim to keep things simple and make seagulls your preferred Club. Andrew has hit the ground running and has the full support of the norths Group Management and Board to get seagulls back on track and make local decisions with Group support.

seagulls Club has a long, successful history. It has seen many changes over the years with the operational needs of the business requiring a different approach. seagulls is a very viable Club, however the costs of running such a large site means we have had to rationalize and become more efficient in our use of the space available. We have a lot of passionate members and staff who want to see seagulls continue to succeed and we are doing everything possible to ensure that happens.

We have appreciated your patience as we have been working in the old Shed area to bring you a tavern style food offer named “Mangrove” which opens in May. The new cafe, wood-fire pizzeria and cooked-to-order restaurant is set to be a dining sensation with its’ magnificent views over the Tweed River and indoor/outdoor dining areas including over a hundred square meters of outside deck.

Mangrove will become the main dining area of the Club and level one will be used for special events and any future opportunities we are considering.

I wish to thank Marco Cenfi and his team, consisting of his sister Connie and Executive Chef David, who are leading a revolution in food at seagulls. Marco and his team continue to work on delivering food excellence as well as preparing the new Mangrove dining precinct for business. Those members who have been dining with us since December when Marco first joined seagulls, will agree the food standard has been well and truly elevated to a new standard. This will continue with new and exciting menu choices on offer at Mangrove.

will create a superior atmosphere and connection with our traditional Club operations as they will all be concentrated in the one ground floor area of over 4000sqm. We are continuing to work on how we can improve the Ground Floor area of the Club and are also currently working with the TAB on ways we can enhance this space for the future.

Andrew hails from a small town in New Zealand, 180km south of Christchurch. After completing a Bachelor of Tourism Management, Andrew secured a Corporate Traineeship with Rydges’ Hotels & Resorts and worked his way through the ranks with roles at North Sydney, Christchurch, and Queenstown before being posted to his first General Manager’s role in Cairns. He then moved back to New Zealand in the role of General Manager at New Zealand’s iconic Hermitage Hotel at Mount Cook. This property had six high volume food and beverage outlets, a large hotel, a motel and a chalet complex. He also developed and opened a 120 bed backpacker lodge as well as a pub and bistro whilst there and managed some 200 staff.Two years on and Andrew returned to Rydges’ as General Manager of Hospitality at Thredbo managing

10 food and beverage outlets, a hotel and an accommodation management business. After many years in the hotel industry, he’s decided to settle with his young family on the Gold Coast and has joined seagulls as General Manager. He’s excited about his new role and the clubs future and looks forward to helping improve the operation and performance of the club to benefit members.
