    Overall objective

    To improve energy supply management in targeteislands

    To achieve lower costs of delivered electricity withless environmental impact

    To reduce carbon footprint inhotels&resort.

    Specific objective

    Increased energy conservation, reduced energyconsumption and Green House Gas(GHG) emissions

    through extensive use of green technologies andsustained tourist demand for eco-friendly hotelsand resorts.

    1) Reduce: energy analysis, increase energy efficiency.

    2) Replace: select/adapt local technologies based onrenewable sources. Perform on-site tests of selectedsolutions, training dissemination workshops.

    3) Redesign: implement demonstrative showcase.Establishment of a communication/ information centre.

    4) Capacity-building and extension: training andtechnical assistance for owners, managers and technicians.

    5) Strengthen and build up trust on voluntarystandards, certification schemes and eco-labeling:

    information/communication campaigns for tourists,training for tour operators, cooperation with standardsetters/certification bodies and boost replication

    6) Foster policy innovations: cooperation with relatedauthorities and development of instruments to monitorresorts performance.

    Y2005 2006 : Feasibility study for thesustainable development of Samui Island

    was completely conducted under the EC-ASEAN Project, co-funded by theEuropean Commissioning through ASEANCentre for Energy (ACE).

    August, 2011 : Samui Island has beennominated by government of Thailand as

    a candidate for the APEC Low CarbonModel Town Project (LCMT Project) under the supervision of Department of

    Alternative Energy Development andEfficiency (DEDE), Ministry of Energy

    October, 2011 : Samui Island has been

    selected and approved by the APECEnergy Working Group in the 42nd Meetingof the APEC Energy Working Group and

    Associated Meetings in Kaohsiung,Chinese Taipei as the selected Low CarbonTown (LCT) development project toconduct the Feasibility Study (F/S) andPolicy Review.
