    What is a script?

A script is a document that outlines every aural, visual, behavioral, and lingual element

required to film your TV news program.

How do I make a script?

Get yourstory straight. Come up with lots of ideas of what you want to happen in

the TV news program. Create the premise and purpose of the TV show program.

Your reporters anf presenters will drive the action on the stage or screen, so

make sure you make them interesting and innovative.

Create an outline or treatment. Before you begin actually writing dialogue and

script, it might help to create a basic roadmap of what will happen in your TV news

program so you dont forget. Sketch out a general plan and envision how the news will

unfold. This should be told in the third-person.

Maintain your style. Remember, scripts are all about action and dialogue. Make

sure your characters speak realistically, and try not to mix styles of speech and

vocabulary too much unless you are going for a certain effect.

Ensure that different reporters anf presenters have their own 'voice' based

on their background, which will affect their word choices and dialect. This will

stop your characters from blending into one another.

Set the news. Don't forget to include important details such as time of day, setting,

and actions of the reporters and presenters in the scene. These are nearly asimportant as the news that occurs.

Format your writing. Skip lines between one character speaking and a different

one speaking, especially if you're handwriting it. This will enable those reading the

script to distinguish between speakers more easily, and also allow space for notes.

Edit yourself. Continually revise your writing, and, if possible, show the script to a

friend or adviser who has writing experience and can critique and improve the script as

needed. You may also write your script in various ways, introducing people and even in

brackets telling the reader what is happening that the narrator is not reading. I.E.) jeff

walks off the stage or john closes the door behind him.

Studio: Now, looking up to the most important news in the capital of our

country, Bogota, is our reporter, Camilo Finsen at the most important event

in the Candelaria, a local part of Bogota.

Reporter: I am here on the most important part of Bogota, La Candelaria,

an historic neighborhood of Bogot where tiny, cobbled alleyways and stone

walls have seen the settlement of the first Spaniards, the slaughter of

revolutionaries and the recent protests for peace. It was in thisneighborhood where El Grito de Independencia (The Cry of Liberty) which

marked the start of the region's revolutionary war was first heard. Simn

Bolvar, the revolutionary leader who led the struggle for independence from

Spain throughout Latin America spent some of his last years here. And more

recently La Candelaria has been the scene of many grim events due to the

    countrys on-going guerrilla war.

Studio: Thats very interesting, and what else can we find on this part of

    this city?

Reporter: Thats a good question, we can find a lot of activities and placesto go, and here I will summarize all of them, also including good sites on

    Bogota:

Museums; The Gold, Military, Regional Clothing, Colonial Art, 20 of

July, Art & Culture, Urban Development & International Emerald Museums,

La Casa de La Moneda, The Rafael Pombo Poetry House & La Quinta de

    Bolvar.

Art Galleries; El Museo Botero (which houses the works of one of

Colombias most prominent artists Fernando Botero as well as many works

    by Picasso and Monet).

Theatres; Catch a performance at the Teatro Cristbal Coln one of

the most beautiful 17th century theatres you will ever see. Or the free open

air amphitheatre La Media Torta. There are also many other performance

venues such as; Teatro de los Sueos & Teatro Libre de Bogot

Libraries; The Luis Angel Arango Library is one of the largest in South

America and often houses photographic and art exhibitions.

Churches; La Catedral de Bogot is on main plaza Simn Bolvar and

is well worth a visit to discover its amazing history. Iglesia de Lourdes has to

be one of my favourites simply for its stunning design! Pay a visit to Iglesia

La Candelaria, Iglesia de Egipto, Iglesia las Aguas too.

    Parks; Even the Parks in this Amazing place are full of history, visit;

Parque de la independencia, Parque Nacional, Parque Simn Bolvar &

Reporter: This was Camilo Finsen, for local news on the Microwave, keep

    on studio.

    Understanding Bogota's Transmilenio system

Studio: Thats good to hear Camilo, and thanks for your report, now we go

to the most important news in the part of moving on Bogota. One of the

most important mean of transportation that you can use on the city is the

Transmilenio, an articulated bus that can take you from one side of the city

to another in only few minutes. Here we have our special reporter, FranciscoPerez that will tell us about this important bus.

Reporter: We are reporting live from the Facilities of Transmilenio buses,

were they come and go back to the city. We are on the Northern part of the

city and now we will tell to all our viewers how important can be this mean

of transportation. First, a little bit about this system. Transmilenio's first

routes were set up at the beginning of this decade and were based on an

existing transport system in Curitiba, Brazil. Bogot developed this system

to fit a much larger city and has earned much credit and attention from

    other cities around the word.

Reporter: Now I will interview the general operator of this station, Miguel

Sanchez, and he will tell us all about the organization of these great buses.

Miguel: First, thank you Francisco for interviewing me, im honored. Now,

Transmilenio consists of two different sections. The first are the articulated

red buses that have their own lanes and transport people between main

hubs which are usually located at the city's extremes. There are the so

called 'Ruta Facil' (easy route) that stop at all the stations between two

major hubs, and then there are express services that only stop at particular

stations. Make sure to pick the right one because you could be eitherspending way too much time on your trip, or watching your stop fly by when

you were expecting to get out. Also, The second part consists of smaller,

green buses. These are called 'Alimentadores' or 'feeders' and take people

to the main hubs and a few other important stations. You don't pay to use

an alimentador, as you can buy your ticket upon arriving at the main hub.

One ride costs 1.500 pesos, no matter where you go.

Reporter: Thank you Miguel, for giving us the basic information about this

great service. Now we will call for the personal experience of the people that

get on the service every day. Hello, what is your name?, we want to make

you some questions about the Transmilenio system and if you can give ussome tips.

  • 8/6/2019 Tv News Program Drafts

    5/17

Interviewed: Oh hello my name is Rafael Nio and shure, i will tell you 5

easy steps to make a better use of the system:

    1. First of all, before using Transmilenio it should become a habit to visit

www.transmilenio.gov in order to plan your trip. The system really is

straight forward once you know it, but you do first have to get familiar withall the lines and numbers. Also, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays have

    different schedules so be aware.

    2. The express services are easy to recognize as their line numbers always

use double digits. The Ruta Facil always uses single digits or just mentions

that it is a Ruta Facil. For example, let's analyze a bus. One of transmilenio's

main routes leads to the Portal de la 80 hub in the north-west of the city.

Any bus that is headed for this hub will have the letter 'D' in its line number.

D3 will stop at any of the stations that the bus passes before arriving at the

hub, while D20 will only stop at particular stations. The same would go for

D21 or D50. It's really quite simple once you know.

    3. Getting into the bus can be a minor war. Do not think about others, just

about yourself. Remember that everybody else is doing the same and

nobody is going to offer you a seat. Be fast, try to get a seat, and try not to

    hurt anyone in the process.

    4. Be very careful. While Transmilenio is relatively safe, there will always be

people trying to take advantage of travelers not paying attention and

pickpocketing unfortunately still occurs. Keep your hands on your pockets or

better, make sure that your possessions are well covered and hard to reach.

    5. Some buses have electronic systems that tell you which stop is next, but

many don't. When you plan your trip, always check which station (or two

stations) your bus is scheduled to stop at before arriving at yours. When the

bus is crowded, get up a little in advance to get close to a door. Because

getting out, just like getting in, can at times be a tough task.

Reporter: Ok, thank you for your help, and now we go back to studio, this

was Francisco Perez, for local news on the Microwave, keep on studio.

Studio: Thanks Francisco, and to finish our section, we can say that Bogotais an interesting city with a lot of activities and places to look, so for you

next vacations, come on and know you city.

This is the evaluation of my progress.

In class, we learned:How to use all our preparation and ideas, and among our groupmake each of os a single script with the ideas each one thought ofbeing the best ones.

In my opinion, the most interesting thing I learned was:That all the things that are explained in the classroom are veryhandy we you know how to use them. In this situation, the guidingand tutorial given by the teacher gave us a very easy way to dothings, so I liked it a lot.

I had difficulty with:The implementation of the news and the script, also with the linkingexpressions that are used, so I had to go and examinate some

pages that were exposed on the class.

I would like to learn more about:Diferent kind of scripts or types of paragraphs that could be used for

the planning of a TV program

    Comments:

I believe the proyect has gone very well up to now, and we must kee

it very well In order to propose new ideas to further activities.

    What is a storyboard?

Once your script is written , the next step is to make a storyboard. Astoryboard visually tells the TV news program panel by panel, kind oflike a comic book.

Your storyboard will should convey some of the following information:

What charaters are in the frame, and how are they moving?

What are the characters saying to each other, if anything? How much time has passed between the last frame of the

storyboard and the current one? Where the "camera" is in the scene? Close or far away? Is the

    camera moving?

    Why make a storyboard?

Creating a storyboard will help you plan your TV news program out

shot by shot. You can make changes to your storyboard before youstart shooting, instead of changing your mind later. You will also beable to talk about your animation and show your storyboard to otherpeople to get feedback on your ideas.

How do I make a storyboard?

Most commonly, storyboards are drawn in pen or pencil. If you don'tlike to draw you can also take photos, cut out pictures frommagazines, or use a computer to make your storyboards. Keep inmind that your drawings don't have to be fancy! In fact, you want tospend just a few minutes drawing each frame. Use basic shapes, stickfigures, and simple backgrounds. If you draw your storyboard frameson index cards, you can rearrange them to move parts of the thestory around.

This is the evaluation of my progress.

In class, we learned:How to create a storyboard knowing about some of the shots thatare important like the Face Shot, Close-up Shot, Dissolve, Fade,High Camera Angle and applicate them in the further planning of thecreation of the story board.

In my opinion, the most interesting thing I learned was:The different shot and angles that can be used in the creation of astory board as a very useful planning for the program. Also it wasinteresting how a story board can reflex the real purpose of theprogram.

I had difficulty with:Some vocabulary elements and redactions terms, that were present

in some problems along the making of the story board. It wasdifficult due to thw new vocabulary and vew usage of vocabulary.

I would like to learn more about:New methods to simplify the story board and create a new tyoes of

planning that also include images and textm but excluding some of

the boring ascpects of the story board as the length of the proyect.
