    The English LanguageCurriculum for Primary Schoolsaims to equip pupils with basiclanguage skillsto enable themto communicate effectively in avariety of contexts thatsappropriate to the pupils level

    of development.

    The English language syllabusfor primary school aims to equippupils with skills and provide abasic understanding of theEnglish language so that theyare able to communicate, bothorally and in writing, in and out

    of school.

    i) listen to and understand simplespoken English to be able tofunction in common everydaysituations;

    ii) speak and respond clearly and

    appropriately in commoneveryday situations using simplelanguage;

    iii) to read and understand differentkinds of texts (from print andelectronic sources) for enjoymentand information;

    iv) write (including e-mail) fordifferent purposes using simplelanguage; and

    v) show an awareness andappreciation of moral values andlove towards the nation.

    i. communicate with peers andadults confidently andappropriately in formal andinformal situations;

    ii. read and comprehend a rangeof English texts for information

    and enjoyment;iii. write a range of texts using

    appropriate language, styleand form through a variety ofmedia;

    iv. appreciate and demonstrate

    KSSR was introduced as an effort torestructure and improve the currentcurriculum to ensure that students havethe relevant knowledge, skills and valuesto face the challenges of the 21st

    century.

    Education is a major contributor to the development ofour social and economic capital. It inspires creativity andfosters innovation;provides our youth with the necessaryskills to be able to compete in the modern labour

    market; and is a key driver of growth in the economy.And as this Government puts in place measures underthe New Economic Model, Economic Transformation Planand Government Transformation Planto place Malaysia

    firmly on the path to development, we must ensure thatour education system continues to progress in tandem.
