Join Veterans Empowerment Organization of Georgia as we discuss the challenges and needs of veterans in our community.
Our veterans are drawn from many generations and from many backgrounds. Some charged across great battlefields. Some fought on the high seas. Some patrolled the open skies. And all contributed to the character and to the greatness of America.
Illegal and legal substances are often used as a way to self-medicate against the stresses of daily life. For some segments of the population, the stress of daily life is anything but normal. For those who serve in the military, deployment can introduce extended periods of high risk for physical injury and emotional trauma.
Using drugs and/or alcohol as a way to self-medicate for stress associated with combat exposure or the threat of physical or psychological trauma is a common occurrence among members of the military.
