Sait Faik 1928’de liseyi bitirdi. Liseden sonra 1930’da Lozan’a gitti. Lozan’da ekonomi okumak istiyordu, ama orada sadece on beş gün kaldı. Daha sonra Fransa’ya gitti. Fransa’da 1933’e kadar yaşadı.

Sait Faik 1933’te Türkiye’ye döndü. Bir süre bir Ermeni okulunda öğretmen olarak çalıştı. Daha sonra bir tüccar oldu. Fasulye aldı ve sattı. Ama başarılı bir tüccar değildi. Bu yüzden kısa bir süre sonra iflas etti.

Sait Faik’in babası Mehmet Faik Bey 1939’da öldü. Ondan sonra Sait Faik gerçek bir iş yapmadı. Hayatı boyunca yazı yazdı. 171 öykü ve 2 roman yazdı; yaklaşık 50 tane röportaj yaptı . . .
