Rolls-Royce has welcomed Delta Te-chOps, the MRO division of Delta Air

Lines into its expanded service network as it begins work on its first Trent engine.

Delta TechOps began operations as a Trent Authorised Maintenance Centre, with the induction of a Trent 1000 engine module. The 127,000 sq ft state-of-the-art facility will also perform services on the Trent 7000 and Trent XWB.

The addition of Delta TechOps supports the growth of maintenance capacity and also supports Rolls-Royce’s wider services strategy to develop an increasingly capa-ble, competitive and flexible CareNetwork.

Don Mitacek, Senior Vice President, Del-ta TechOps, said, “We are incredibly proud of our new facility and proud to be part of the Rolls-Royce CareNetwork. We look forward to supporting Rolls-Royce across three significant engine programmes starting with the Trent 1000, alongside our existing BR715 line.”

five-year contract for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) work on CFM56-7B nacelle components for the Boeing 737NG

aircraft operated by a US airline opera-tor. Under the contract Triumph Product Support will service thrust reversers, fan cowls and inlet cowls on the CFM56-7B engines on the carrier’s 737NG fleet.

“We are proud of our long history sup-porting the global airlines’ nacelle compo-nent MRO requirements and extremely pleased to solidify our leading position in the industry with this five-year agree-ment,” said Bill Kircher, executive vice president for Triumph Product Support.

For more than a decade Triumph’s Prod-uct Support business unit has provided airline carriers with superior customer service, on-site rotable assets and implemented cost reduction measures to the benefit of their customers. Triumph Product Support provides full life cycle solutions for commercial, regional and military aircraft for OEMs and operators. Its full suite of post-delivery value chain services simplifies the MRO supply chain and provides customers with global, inte-grated planeside repair solutions.

Tom Palmer, Rolls-Royce, Director of Services, Civil Aerospace, said, “It’s great to have Delta TechOps up and running and working alongside us. They have an impor-tant role to play both in helping us address our immediate Trent 1000 issue, and in the longer term as part of our network growth to service our expanding Trent fleet.”

The new facility, in Atlanta, Georgia, has been created by converting several large

hangar bays. The workshop consists of ar-eas for engine assembly and disassembly; kitting parts; engines work in progress; shop materials and supplies, life limited parts and repair and support. A new test cell will open later this year capable of testing engines to 150,000lb thrust.

Delta TechOps already carries out service support for Rolls-Royce BR715 regional jet engines.

H225M surpasses the 100,000 flight hour milestone

The H225M, with 88 aircraft currently in service in six countries world-

wide soars past the 100,000 flight hour milestone, following its first delivery to the French Air Force in 2006. The aircraft was rapidly deployed by the French Air Force in Lebanon in 2006 where the H225M, also known as the Caracal, suc-cessfully evacuated around 300 people. Since then the 11-metric-tonne H225M has proven its reliability and durability in combat conditions and crisis areas such as Afghanistan, Chad, the Ivory Coast, the Central African Republic, and Mali, while also supporting NATO-led operations in Libya.

“We are thrilled to see that the H225M has achieved this symbolic milestone with helicopters flying in different

corners of the globe and in some of the harshest theatres of operation. Its state-of-the art avionics and world renowned four axis autopilot, its exceptional range and payload capacities, combined with a large cabin designed to carry 28 troops and powerful air-toground and air-to-surface armament and electronic warfare system allow the H225M opera-tors to carry out the most demanding missions,” said Michel Macia, Head of Super Puma programme at Airbus Helicopters.

Operating both from ships and from land, even in icing conditions, this helicopter has an allweather capability supported by night vision goggle com-patibility. The helicopter’s exceptional 1,296 km range can be extended with

air-to-air refueling capabilities, allow-ing for flight times of up to 10 hours, as demonstrated recently by the French Air Force in operational conditions.

The H225M, a member of the Super Puma family, is relied upon as a force multiplier by France, Brazil, Mexico, Ma-laysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. The Roy-al Thai Air Force has recently renewed its trust in the aircraft with a follow-on order of four aircraft for combat search and rescue and troop transport missions. Other recent customers for the H225M include Kuwait who signed a contract in 2016 for 30 aircraft and Singapore. The H225M continues to attract interest from governments worldwide as a powerful multi-role aircraft capable of meeting their operational needs.

FlightSafety, Global Simulation to provide 10 Mixed Reality Training Systems for the T-38C Talon programme

Embraer successfully performs maiden flight of KC-390 multi-mission airlift

FlightSafety International and Global Simulation Incorporated

have secured a contract to provide 10 Mixed Reality Training Systems for the T-38C programme.

The new training systems will be installed at Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT), 80th Flying Training Wing, Sheppard AFB, Texas early next year. The 80th Flying Training Wing hosts the world’s only internationally manned and managed pilot training

Embraer achieved another im-portant milestone with the

completion of the maiden flight of the first series production multi-mission medium airlift KC-390. As agreed with the Brazilian Air Force, the aircraft will now join the flight test campaign, in which more than 1,900 flight hours have already been logged. Civil certification of the basic aircraft will be granted by Brazilian aviation authority ANAC (Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil) and is ex-pected to be achieved very soon.

“We celebrate another important milestone into the production of the KC-390”, said Jackson Schneider, Pres-ident and CEO of Embraer Defence

programme. Training is expected to start in March. The systems will sup-port ENJJPT and Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals (IFF) offering Air Educa-tion and Training Command (AETC) its first mixed reality flight training system.

“FlightSafety’s Mixed Reality Flight systems provide an immersive training experience that enhances and acceler-ates pilot and crewmember training in a variety of learning environments,”

said Ray Johns, Executive Vice Presi-dent.

The mixed reality experience is delivered through a headset that is integrated with FlightSafety’s VITAL 1100 Visual System, offering the same high fidelity virtual environment utilised in the Air Force’s existing T-38C Talon and T-6 Texan II as well as numerous other United States Air Force flight training devices. This new advanced technology system enables the user to see and interact with a virtual cockpit, checklists, and notes within a specific flight environment. It offers customised flight controls for fixed-wing aircraft as well as rotary wing aircraft.

The system is comprised of Com-mercial-off-the-shelf components and utilises the latest advances in tech-nology. It includes a high resolution pass-thru camera that enables pilots to interact with a real world environ-ment. The FlightSafety VITAL 1100 image generator can present a broad variety of existing visual databases or those provided by the operator. The system is easily transportable and can be operated without an internet connection.
