Wondered whether purchasing a single snack was truly worth the $1.25? A survey conducted on March 3 tested six of the available snacks. The results: Hawaiian Cassava Pops – Luau BBQ – The reviews on this product were split. There were quite a few taste- testers that said the snack just tasted like regular barbeque chips, so they were pretty good. On the flip side, the other half reported that they tasted “weird”. When comparing the nay-sayers to those that enjoyed the snack the result is eleven to nine. So this snack is a toss-up depending on your taste buds, there’s a good chance you won’t like it, but also a good chance that you will. Cassava Pops – Volcano – The most common word that was used to describe these chips was, “bland.” The seasoning which one would assume to be extremely spicy due to its name, turned out to be, “sort of spicy,” at best. Only about fifteen percent of taste testers thought this chip was good, but that left eighty- five percent that didn’t enjoy it at all. The consensus? Deleting Social Media Follow-upAbout 3 months in. By TAYLOR PSOLKA

The History of Mac n’ Cheese

About three to four months ago I deleted both my Instagram and Facebook account. I have found only benefi ts from this decision. One would be that I am not on my phone every waking moment. To be honest I was almost always on my phone even when I just got bored, now not so much. That also benefi ts battery life and data usage. Another benefi t is that it’s nice not knowing everyone’s business. Yes, they

may put it out there for everyone to know, but who needs to know all the details? Now my life, relationships, and struggles are the focus. Social media’s original site was called Six Degrees, created in 1997. This was meant to just create a profi le and make friends. Now social media involves more drama, and dangerous and fake people. Some hazards of having social media may be stalking. A person may never know that it is occurring, but the stalker may know everything about you. Also someone can

Flat Earth Society

The Principles of Being a PrincipalBy OLIVIA HEISE Our Tunkhannock Area High School principal, Mr. Greg Ellsworth, is an educational fi gure that you’re most likely familiar with, but what does his job entail? I, along with two fellow journalists Jessica DeRemer and Maddy Nestor, sat down with Mr. Ellsworth to discuss the job responsibilities of a high school principal. Mr. Ellsworth’s college experience began at the University of Scranton where he studied to become a doctor. However, he didn’t continue on this path. After leaving the University of Scranton, he graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a Master’s in education and Wilkes University with a Masters in tech leadership. Originally, he wanted to be a gym teacher and, for a while, was one, until he learned that he had to get into the state system. However, this turned out to be a positive spin for him. “They needed administrators,” he said, “so it payed off in the long run.” Mr. Ellsworth, a part of our high school for the past 9 years, gained experience in being a principal and a teacher in other school districts. For almost 12 years, he worked as a head teacher at St. Michael’s Children’s Youth Center. Additionally, he went from being assistant principal to principal at Mid Valley School District. He recognizes that TAHS positively differs from other schools. “I really like Tunkhannock because it’s a comprehensive high school,” he says. “It’s able to do what most high schools can’t do anymore, and that is to offer students diverse educational opportunities.” Often, people aren’t always able to differentiate between the job responsibilities of principals and those of assistant principals. Truth be told, the certifi cation of the two are the same, only there’s a split in responsibility. One deals with the curriculum, and the other handles budgeting, paperwork, and teacher evaluation. However, the principal is nonetheless the boss, so the assistant principal usually strives to become the principal. As principal, Mr. Ellsworth foresees some changes in our school, such as a change in bus transportation. “We could have one bus for elementary school students and one for middle and high school students,” he explains. “We should have older students going home fi rst. That gives parents a child care leverage if they have younger children.” He also explains how he wishes to change career tech guidelines for schools like ours. “The state would like to see kids narrowing their focus in what they want after high school,” he says. “We need targeted, structured, and focused classes.” Mr. Ellsworth illustrates how punishments differ among students for the same indiscretion. “All discipline

needs to be individualized, as well as fair and consistent,” he explains. “Situations dictate outcome, and the individual’s age and grade play a factor. For example, expectations differ for freshman and seniors. You have to look at the intelligence of the kid, because each situation is different.” For students pursuing a future job in leadership, Mr. Ellsworth has some advice to give: “Understand that you have to be a person that is decisive, you need to like people, and you have to be aware of and okay with the fact that not everybody is going to like you.” He also offers, “You shouldn’t be afraid of public speaking and staff communication. One of the most important things I’ve learned is that you have to listen. You have to take what you hear and use their input.” Some may say that one of the most important things about doing a job is that you enjoy it, and based on what Mr. Ellsworth has to say, it’s evident that he certainly enjoys his. “The reason I went into education is because I love working with kids,” he says. “Kids are our future. I’ve always said I was going to be a kid for the rest of my life, and when you›re surrounded by kids, you have a youthful outlook on life.” With all the job responsibilities that come with being a high school principal, you may wonder how Mr. Ellsworth maintains a balanced perspective, b ut like anyone else, he has aspects of his life that keep him focused and collected. “I love the beach,” he admits. “I see the waves crashing and I think about all the important things in life: God, family, and people. It brings me back to reality.”

Members all around the globeBy QUENTIN ROBERTS If you haven’t heard about this new phenomenon yet then you might want to strap in for what might be perceived as stupidity, or globe-breaking genius. It is known from history classes that long ago many people believed the world to be fl at. It wasn’t until astronomers and philosophers such as Aristotle and Copernicus that people received the spherical model that seen today in most earth science classes. Today there is a large cluster of people who believe that this is all government conspiracy. The Flat Earth Society is what they have labeled themselves and to reiterate, strap in.

The Flat Earth Society holds that all satellite imagery and numerous mathematical pieces of evidence are simply fabrication produced by NASA and the U.S. government in what is widely known as the “Round Earth Conspiracy.” Now you might think that there is no possible way that any large group of people could possibly believe the theories. But leader Charles K. Johnson has stated that the Flat Earth Society has grown by roughly 200 members each year since 2009. You may also be thinking that this is only something that could sprout from “Today’s Crazy World”, but establishment

of the society was founded in 1956. They are dead serious. Now, what is it exactly that Flat-Earthers believe? The most popular running theory amongst their ranks states that Earth is a disc with the Arctic Circle in the center and Antarctica is actually a 150 foot wall of ice surrounding the disc. NASA employees are believed to guard this wall to stop people from falling off this disc if they were to climb the wall. Earth’s day and night cycle is explained by stating that the sun and moon are spheres (they get to be round apparently) measuring 32 miles that move in circles 3,000 miles above the plane of the Earth. This is a shorter distance than most oil sites are currently drilling into the Earth. Stars are said to be only 100 miles above the sun. Like spotlights, these spheres illuminate different portions of the planet in a 24-hour cycle. Flat-Earthers believe there must also be an invisible “antimoon” that obscures the moon during lunar eclipses. Crazy or revolutionary? What would NASA and our global governments have to gain from keeping this a secret from the people? If you would like to fi nd out more or maybe even delve into this world fl attening theory yourself, you can learn more at www.thefl atearthsociety.org

Well, this is cheesy…By MAKAYLA FRITSCH Mac and cheese: beloved American side dish. If you asked a person how mac n’cheese was invented, they may be confused and not realize that the creation of this God-sent gift was actually invented by none other than Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson, typically known for things such as being a founding father of our nation, but macaroni and cheese was defi nitely not on the list of most people’s knowledge. After returning to America from the pasta loving country of Italy, Jefferson brought with him a pasta machine. His wife, who later died, was credited for the invention. It is believed that Jefferson had actually brought back a recipe from Italy and transformed it to macaroni and cheese.

Every American has grown up with this classic food. The most notable company that produces this delicacy is Kraft which fi rst boxed it in 1937. Their mac and cheese can come in a plethora of shapes. For example - Spongebob, Scooby-Doo, Blue’s Clues, and even Pokémon shapes. The macaroni is mostly covered in melted cheddar cheese, but depending on the consumer’s preference it can be doused in any kind. Whether or not you like mac and cheese you can’t deny it has an interesting history.Source: cliffordawright.com

SeasonalSeasonalLuck Around the WorldYou’re lucky you decided to read this article.By MAKAYLA FRITSCH What is luck? Luck is defi ned in Merriam-Webster as “a force that brings good fortune or adversity”. Some may believe luck is just a matter of good coincidence, and others as some higher force. To any ordinary Pennsylvanian, luck may be winning the lottery or some cash on a scratch-off ticket. Maybe to a small child, it may be fi nding a shiny penny heads up on a dirty aisle fl oor of Wal-Mart. In other countries, America included, certain objects may hold a type of charm or in this case - luck. As in the previous example, the shiny penny heads up is considered a fi nd that will bring a person luck, but a penny faced down is bad luck. In the country of Japan, there is a lucky charm called the Maneki Neko. These charms are little fi gurines which are often made out of plastic or ceramic. It is believed that the little cats bring good luck to the owner of the charm. Maneki Neko translates to “beckoning cat”, hence the beckoning motion of the fi gures arm. Another, rather odd, superstition the Japanese believe is if you see a spider in the morning it’s good luck and you shouldn’t kill it. It was traditionally believed that if a spider lives longer or to 400 years of age, it will gain magical powers and acquire the ability to shapeshift into a human. Another example is in the quaint country of Deutschland (Germany). The ladybug is Christian symbol for luck. To

them, the little red and black spotted bug is associated with the Virgin Mary. As the story goes, Mary sent down a bug to earth as a gift. The bug aided farmers in keeping away pests and aphids away from the crops. If a ladybug was seen in their crops, it often resulted in a plentiful and beautiful harvest. It is now thought that if a ladybug lands on you, you’re in luck. On a larger scale, the elephant is a symbol of wisdom, and represents the deity Ganesha. The elephant is often related with the Indian culture. They believe that if you spot an elephant on your travels you will have fruitful results. This is because they believe that the lord Ganesha removes obstacles from the traveler’s path, hence why the short going will be accomplished. Luck is perceived in many ways all around the world. Keep an eye out for those shiny pennies or a fl ying ladybug. Sources: Japan-talk.com, gothe.de , boldsky.com

The Origins of Saint Patrick’s DayWhere did Saint Patrick’s Day come from?By IRELAND CLARK

While the majority of the world celebrates Saint Patrick’s Day, few actually know how it came to be. The origins of Saint Patrick’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick, started in Ireland. The holiday celebrates Saint Patrick, the heritage of the Irish, and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. The holiday also honors Saint Patrick, as March 17 was the day he died. Saint Patrick’s Day was made an offi cial holiday in the 17th century. While some know who Saint Patrick was, many do not. Saint Patrick was a Romano-British missionary and bishop. He was born to a wealthy family before being captured by Irish raiders at the

age of sixteen. He was taken to Ireland and spent his time as a shepherd for six years before he found God. He eventually fl ed Ireland and went home to become a priest. He quickly returned to Ireland and converted the pagan Irish to Christianity. He spent the rest of his life there until he died on March 17. Saint Patrick’s Day, a day for revels and honoring the saint, is celebrated all over the world including the U.S., Ireland, Great Britain, Canada, and more. Many people celebrate it in different ways, including song and dance. Some throw parades, while others, of age, drink beer and party long into the night.

DIY Shamrock ShakesAbsolute perfection all year round.By EMMA RUSHWORTH If you’re actually a sane person, or even human for that matter, you know that Shamrock Shakes are the best part of St. Patrick’s Day. These minty, creamy concoctions are a delight each February through March and many look forward to their release. However, they always end up leaving way too soon. I’ve often heard how nice it would be to have them year round, or to have one on the beach. Another problem with the unoffi cial drink of the St. Paddy’s season is that they are a little expensive. So thanks to allrecipes.com, I’ve found a cheap, easy way to make your very own Shamrock Shakes any day of the year. Ingredients:*3 cups of vanilla ice cream *1 ¼ cups milk (I used whole milk)*9 drops of green food coloring*¼ teaspoon peppermint extract

American vs. Irish St. Patrick’s Day TraditionsWhat the actual Irish do.By EMMA RUSHWORTH

As someone over half Irish, St. Patrick’s Day has always been of great importance in my family. What I didn’t realize until very recently, however, was that so many of my family’s traditions are largely Americanized. I have a few friends from Ireland, so I asked them to name some traditions they have, and compare it to the American ways.1.Holy Day of Obligation -Most practicing Christians and Catholics go to church on St. Patrick’s Day much like they would on Easter or Christmas, and other feast days of saints.2.Wearing of Shamrocks -The shamrock actually symbolizes the Holy Trinity of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Many Irish people wear shamrock pins to celebrate their heritage, especially

during mass.3.Going to the Pub -Living up to the stereotype of Irish people drinking a lot, heading to the pub on St. Paddy’s Day is a very common tradition.4.Playing Traditional Music -Another thing the Irish do is play traditional Irish music all day and sometimes all night. Obviously we do things sort of different over here. While some of the concepts may be the same, what we all know as traditions are simply made up by Americans.1.Wearing Green -Usually, Americans wear green to pretend that everyone is Irish for a day. However, wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day is not common in Ireland.

2.Corned Beef and Cabbage -Believe it or not, this is totally made up by Americans. Corned beef and cabbage is not a traditional Irish dish. If you want a more authentic food, try blood sausages.

3.Green River in Chicago -Every year, the Rowan and Butler families dye the Chicago River green for a few hours. However, in Ireland no rivers are dyed green for any reason.

First, blend all the ingredients in a blender. No blender? No problem, just soften the ice cream and mix with a wooden spoon. Once your shake is thick and creamy, and all the chunks are mixed in, pour into a glass. Top with whipped cream and a cherry. Voila! Now you’ve got your very own delicious Shamrock Shake to enjoy.

I Wish…How do we receive what we believe?By DINAH DIMEOLO There are many things in the world that people wish for. Some people wish for money, others for specifi c objects, jobs, etc. But what do we need to start doing besides wishing? The answer, is start believing. The Law of Attraction is a law stating that if you legitimately think about something as if you already have it, it’s already yours. This law is as true as the Law of Gravity or Law of Inertia, it works without seeing it and often people aren’t consciously aware of it. The sad part is, many people disregard this law only

because instant desired results were not achieved. So the real question is; how do you ap-ply that law into receiving what you want? How do you get what you want purely by saying so? The fi rst step of learning how to use the law of attraction in your favor is to wrap your head around the concept that everything has vibrations. Every last thing from the planets in outer space to the smallest particle of dust on Earth has a vibration. Your brain is so smart that it turns all these vibrations into a reality that everything is solid, although it technically is not. Logically accepting this truth is much different than actually believing it and applying it to your life… Stick with me, this will all make sense. Once you grasp the constant vibration concept, you must understand that “like” attracts “like”. Since everything around us has a vibration, including thoughts and ideas, each of those vibrations have differ-ent frequencies. For example, if you want to apply the Law to getting a job, you have to believe you’ve got the interview in the bag to the point of where you believe you already have the position; your belief has to conquer the vibration of fear. Making sense yet? So if 1) Everything is vibration and 2) Vibrations of similar frequencies are attracted together and 3) You have the ability to control your vibra-tions, then you can literally do anything - attract ANYTHING into your life. So go get those concert tickets, go fi nd that job, you’d be surprised what you can manifest with your mind.

Processor Up-War UpdateAMD’s newest lineup has Ryzen!By BRENDON ELY AMD (aka Advanced Micro Devices), a semiconductor company that creates the tiny processors that make your computer work, are in the process of releasing their newest lineup of cheap, powerful processors that are sure to cause a stir in the market. These processors are about half the price of the competition’s offerings, and they have better performance. Just like their competition they have three ‘families’ or groups of processors. Ryzen 7 or R7 is the fastest and the more expensive ‘family’, Ryzen 5 is right in the middle (most likely found in a pc that you buy from the store), and Ryzen 3 or R3 is the low end, or the cheapest of the three, but with good performance and price compared to the competition. The biggest game changer is the Ryzen 3 ‘family’ because it is going to bring computers to people who were never able to afford it before. AMD’s new lineup of processors

set to be released on March 3rd can be preordered beforehand. The original article featured in a previous edition of The Prowler talked about a few things, price, performance, and what it would do for the world as a whole. Right now it doesn’t do much for the world as a whole because of hype for the release, so it would be hard to believe yet. What does this mean for an average person? It depends on how much you use a computer. For many people this will be a game changer, for others not so much. The price to performance factor is what changes this game, they are sold for almost half as much as competition but are much more powerful.

Triggered Snowfl ake Wish I got paid to complain By BAILEE JONES

When it comes to baseless allegations and completely ridiculous statements, Tomi Lahren has had her fair share. Lahren is a commentator for TheBlaze, a platform that credits themselves for having authentic and unfi ltered voices. Lahren has a segment called Final Thoughts with Tomi on the platform, and she has gained recognition with her claims and thoughts since her fi rst segment aired. Lahren championed several controversial opinions from Islamophobia to Black Lives Matter. Tomi Lahren appears to be an angry girl who is tone-deaf about social issues, yet she speaks to a large national platform of extreme conservatives. When it comes to Feminism, Lahren is an outspoken anti-feminist. On Instagram, she held up a sign saying “feminists, you don’t speak for me and you never will.” Without feminism, she wouldn’t be able to have a political talk show at all. In fact, feminism is one of the major differences between democracy and Sharia law in the Middle East. She also criticized the Democrats for being pro-family planning, saying that she doesn’t need free birth control because as a Republican she “can take care of herself.” If you thought Lahren was angry about feminism, she’s ten times more worked up about racism. Not because it occurs, but because people keep talking about it. She is specifi cally angry by people who speak openly about racism in relation to police brutality. Lahren stated that Black Lives Matter is the new KKK, because of the rioting and looting that occurs at some of the protests, insisting that the entire movement ascribes to a violent, anti-cop narrative. Even though BLM is dedicated to ending police brutality and KKK was all about increasing it. Firstly, how can you judge the whole movement off the actions of a few. Because few protests have turned violent, that means the whole Black Lives Matter movement is fi lled with angry, criminals, right? To use some reverse psychology, back in early November Lahren said that just because Trump is supported by members of the KKK, that doesn’t mean that he is in the KKK. So, doesn’t that whole speech on BLM being the new KKK seem full of hypocrisy? A more famous act of her commentary was when she shouted about Beyoncé saluting the Black Panthers during the Super Bowl, upset that the singer wanted “an overthrow of white domination.” Lahren also said “What is it that they’re trying to convey here?” Yes, she really said “they.” Was that racist or does she always talk about Beyoncé in plural? Also, on one of her segments Lahren commented on Colin Kaepernick and his choice to kneel/sit during the National Anthem. She started by saying “Sit down, Colin Kaepernick, we’ve had a black president for almost eight years now, maybe he failed you. We also have a black woman in charge of the Justice Department, maybe she failed you, too. Or maybe it’s the liberals, your saviors, which run your communities into the ground. Where does the buck stop? When will those black communities take a step back and take some responsibility for the problems in black communities?” It’s priceless when you get a privileged white woman trying to tell African Americans that have been oppressed for hundreds of years how to take responsibility for their “run down communities.” What really sent her into popularity was when she appeared on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah in late November. For the show host Noah it was doubtlessly an opportunity to school her on Lahren’s more overtly racist opinions. Unfortunately, that sort of logic fails to contend with the facts that people like Tomi Lahren deal exclusively in illogicality. Attempting to have a rational conversation with a woman who has called Black Lives Matter the new KKK infers that she trades reason for straight out racism. Throughout the interview that of course went viral Lahren asserted that she doesn’t “see color,” referring to her comments she makes about African Americans and their actions. Noah responded by saying “So what do you do at a stop light?” Although, the interview was funny to watch, neither party could convince the other of their views and reasoning. To pay respect to the title of this article, and my personal favorite thing ever said by Tomi Lahren, the liberal social justice warrior’s aka the snowfl akes. She has countless times called liberals snowfl akes, because all they do is complain and apparently also don’t work. On her show, when Trump had won the presidency and Democrats were upset, just like how the Republicans would have been if Clinton would have won, when the protests broke out she said that Republicans did not protest about Obama’s win in 2008 and 2012. That is an example of alternative facts because there are plenty of pictures proving that there were in fact people standing outside the White House with signs saying “Lynch the President” and “A black president is not my president,” so please tell me again, Tomi, how there were no protests. She also said that there were also no protests because conservatives were at work instead. Inferring that apparently, all the protestors had no jobs, because you can’t have job and protest. Are you kidding? I didn’t even speak on all of the claims that Tomi Lahren had made, but it seems

Is the Internet Dangerous for Children?Or is it all hyped beyond control?BY EMMA DOUTHETT

Should children be allowed on the Internet? Is it too dangerous for them? Though, really, why would the Internet be dangerous for kids under the age of twelve? Because the New York Times says, “Sure, there are dangers. But they’re hugely overhyped by the media. The tales of pedophiles luring children out of their homes are like plane crashes: they happen extremely rarely, but when they do, they make headlines everywhere.”

So children are much less likely to be abducted by strange people on the Internet than most people think. Even if a child somehow stumbles across pornography, they probably will not know what it is, and will most likely take it to one of their parents. The parent’s reaction will be what shapes the situation, not the content itself. If the parent behaves calmly and rational-ly, the child will probably forget about the whole thing. But if they freak out on the

child, then the child will know something

bad happened, and will remember it as a bad experience.

A more likely scenario is if a child is being cyber-bullied. But it is much more likely for teens to get cyber bullied than children, and according to The Guardian, “In the US, it is clear from numerous data sources that young people are more likely to be victimized at school than online.”

It is not as much of a threat for children than most parents think it is. As long as parents teach their children about cyber-bullying, and tell them to come to an adult if it happens to them, the Internet can be a good place for children to grow and learn, to watch videos and read books. As long as adults keep their children educated about cyber-bullying, they should be fi ne on the Internet.

Stranger ThingsSet in the fi ctional town of Hawkins, Indiana in the 1980s, the fi rst season focuses on the investigation into the disappearance of a young boy by his brother and traumatized mother and the local police chief. All amid supernatural events occurring around the town including the appearance of a psychokinetic girl who helps the missing boy’s friends in their own search. So far there is only one season out, but this Halloween season two will premiere.Criminal MindsThe series follows a group of FBI profi lers who set about catching various criminals through behavioral profi ling. Together, this team of intelligent agents investigates cases countrywide and Law and Order: SVUThis series originally centered almost exclusively on the detectives of the Special Victims Unit in a fi ctional version of the 16th Precinct of the New York City Police Department. This eighteen season long show somehow never gets boring despite ShamelessDepicting the dysfunctional family of Frank Gallagher, a single father of six children, the show tackles how these kids learn to take care of themselves with an alcoholic father.

Black MirrorThis anthology series centers on dark themes that observe modern society, especially with the unknown consequences of modern technology.A Series of Unfortunate EventsThe series follows the adventures of three siblings, the Baudelaire orphans. Snicket explains that few positive things happen to the children, but much misfortune befalls them.

THE PROWLER 5VOLUME XIV, ISSUE XXXI InterestingInterestingThe Russian Sleeping Experiment A horrific tale about when humans stay awake for 15 days.By MADDY NESTOR In the late 1940s, Russian researchers decided to try and keep five prisoners awake for fifteen days. These prisoners were political prisoners that were enemies of Russia during WWII. They agreed to do the experiment because they were falsely promised that they would be freed from jail if they stayed awake for 30 days. In order for them to stay awake for many days straight, the five subjects were put into a gas chamber. The gas released prevents people from sleeping. During these fifteen days, the prisoners’ conversations were constantly monitored. For the first few days of the experiment, everything seemed fine; the prisoners were communicating normally, and nothing seemed unusual other than the complaining about being confined in a gas chamber. After five days, the inmates began showing signs of stress and paranoia. They stopped talking to each other and began whispering into the microphones about each other. After nine days, the subjects began screaming. One of them shouted for three hours straight, and then still continued trying to scream after the voice was lost, making them give out the occasional squeal. One unusual thing about this as well was not only the relentless screaming, but how the other inmates didn’t seem to mind at all, they kept on whispering into the microphones until they eventually began screaming themselves. The other two tore book pages apart, smeared their feces over it, and then stuck it into the portholes the researchers used to feed them. Then the screaming and whispering stopped. The researchers were worried, so they announced they would be opening the chamber, but the inmates responded with, “We no longer want to be freed.” They turned off the gas and then pumped regular air into the chamber. The inmates then began begging for the gas to be pumped back into the chamber. The

begging soon turned into screaming, which was even louder than before. Soldiers helping with the experiment were asked to go inside to see what was happening. When they went inside they saw that the food had not been touched and chunks of the dead’s thigh and chest meat were stuffed inside of the chamber’s drain, which caused four inches of water and blood to build up. The four surviving subjects had skin torn off of their bodies and some of their fingertips’ skin was completely off, exposing bone. Later examination of them showed that the harm was self-inflicted, using their fingers, not their teeth. All four of the test subject’s organs below their ribcage were torn out, leaving the key organs intact. Their digestive tracts were still working, processing the flesh that the inmates had been munching on throughout the experiment. The gas stayed turned off, so after the long fight the prisoners went through they fell asleep. When the bodies were retrieved, one of them died from having their throat ripped out, and another died from his testicles being ripped off and one of his leg’s arteries being chewed off. The two survivors were taken to a hospital, and one of them died from surgical reasons almost immediately. The other one was being operated on without any anesthetics and wrote on a piece of paper “keep cutting”. After the surgery one of the researchers pointed a gun at the remaining subject and yelled, “WHAT ARE YOU?” The inmate smiled and responded, «We are you. We are the madness that lurks within you all, begging to be free at every moment in your deepest animal mind. We are what you hide from in your beds every night. We are what you sedate into silence and paralysis when you go to the nocturnal haven where we cannot tread.”(None of this actually happened, sources: creepypasta.wiki)

Vet vs. Vet TechMajor differences and what to choose.By TAYLOR PSOLKA A veterinarian is a person who is authorized to treat ill or injured animals. A veterinary technician is someone at a lower level of the career. There are some major differences, though. For example, schooling is a major difference. For a veterinarian, education takes about 8-10 years. As a vet tech school is about 2-4 years. Deciding how much money to spend on school costs, how long someone would like to go to school, and the rewards may make the choice easier. School costs really depend on the location and whether it is private or public, since each school is priced differently. Being able to afford vet or vet tech school with student loans, but not getting a job to pay them off can affect you in the future. Considering pay, for a vet an average of $88,490 can be made per year. Contrast that with a vet tech who makes an average of $31,800 per year. That significant difference could impact a choice as well.

Duties of each are another difference. As a vet, responsibilities may include controlling or diagnosing diseases, treating sick or injured animals, or even in some cases surgery. But as a vet tech, duties may include drawing blood, vaccinations, and giving medications. Another factor that’s different would be hours worked. As a vet an average 30-65 plus hours are worked. While as a vet tech on average of at least 40 hours are worked. Also, being a vet can have the advantage of opening your own clinic or shelter. Having the experience under your belt could be helpful. So it all comes down to the lifestyle that one may want. Whether it is working all the time with your own clinic all day, or just working less hours with more simplistic tasks. Both are very helpful to the animal world and both are appreciated.

Spooky TipsHow to take all the “fun” out of scary media By QUENTIN ROBERTS We’ve all been there at least once in our lives, right? You are either setting out to brave a scary movie out of your own free will, or you are being forced to endure the horror-inducing silver screens by a friend or family member. Afterwards you are one of two people. The first shrugs it off and enjoys the rest of their night having relished the small adrenaline ride. While the second curls up into a ball with a nightlight and runs away every time the room even gets slightly dark. If you are the latter, the only hope you have of getting a peaceful sleep after your night of terror is to minimize the effects on your psyche. Because in its purest form horror movies are psychological. When you truly think about it the initial scare isn’t all that bad. Tension builds up, the movie goes eerily quiet, then a shocking noise or bounding spook makes

you jump and shout. It’s your memory that is the true culprit of what scares you after the movie. Visualizing that character lurking in the dark corners of your home after the movie is over is what sets your imagination off. To combat this, most people make the classic mistake of covering their eyes. If you can’t see the monster it can’t scare you, right? Wrong. A large portion of tension design in most scary movies is sound. So instead of covering your eyes, put your fingers into your ears and do a slight wriggle to block the noise. Nine times out of ten you can continue watching the screen and won’t be scared. This can be mimicked by slight humming or even whistling (if you don’t mind bothering your possible companions). Another aspect of after-movie shock is the primal idea that what our eyes are seeing is actually real. Now, it might sound like a

Living Longer?Human Lives Extending?By Kieran Bedford

strange idea to spend more time on the movie you are desperately trying to forget. But a simple google check could alleviate post horror symptoms. Seeing the cast, interviews, and a behind the scenes look at the movie may un-flip the switch and put the fiction into perspective. Finally, my personal favorite, bravado. Cockiness or sheer will power is what is truly needed to get through the night sleeping like a log. I always like to think this is only for those who are too far down

the rabbit hole and have gone off the deep end slightly. You have to be scarier than what is scaring you. If you think there is a ghost in that dark corner, run into it threatening to kick its butt. Call all of your demons out. Make scary faces and try your best to feel like the thing that goes bump in the night. Be the spook. Don’t go overboard and possibly cause yourself to be institutionalized. But cover your ears, do research and be as brave as your little heart can muster.

In 2015 the World Health Organiza-tion averaged the global life expectancy of humans all over the globe coming at 71.4 years. Currently the highest life expec-tancy, from a study in 2015, is Monaco at 89 years. U.S.A. comes at number 43 at 79 years. Though a new study has calculated the average life expectancy. Humans are living longer and in 2030 humans are predicted to live above the age over 85 in most if not all countries. As of now there are no statistics of countries averaging a life

expectancy of 90 or above, but by 2030 South Korea will. This country will have a expectancy of 90.8 years by 2030. These researchers, statistically speak-ing, have concluded that due to their increased rate of an “unhealthier lifestyle”. This gives women a higher life expectancy in all countries. Top Business OccupationsIt’s all business hereBy NICK REPOSA Business is everywhere - impossible to get away from it. Whatever one’s interest is, there is a business side of it. From art to sports, there is a guaranteed some kind of business to it. When most people think of the topic, people think of money. If looking to enter the business world, jobs such as CIO’s, Tax director, or Financial Planning and Analysis might be job choices that should be investigated. Chief Investment Officers (CIO) are one of the highest paid business job occupations according to Investopedia.com. A CIO annual salary roughly totals up to $187,000 a year, because they’re usually seen toward the top of the food chain in a company. Majoring in finance is recommended with at least a bachelor’s degree as a must. CIOs are in charge of going through all investment portfolios in a company, and they manage and monitor company activities, finding new ways to innovate their business. Responsibility is the name of the game when being a Tax Director with the endless of tasks put on their shoulders. They are in charge of accounting all tax incomes a company receives. Tax Directors also need to be able to plan taxes and are in charge of transferring pricing and management fee arrangements. An accounting major is the most

After becoming the 45th President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump began his first day in office. He immediately signed in General James Mattis to serve as defense secretary. Also, on the first day he signed orders telling agencies to ease the burden of Obamacare. Since then President Trump has completed many other tasks. Soon after becoming president, Donald Trump successfully followed through on an executive order - Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States. This order states that citizens of Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen temporarily cannot come into the United States due to the 90-day travel ban. Trump’s executive order was soon thoroughly inspected by U.S District Attorney James L. Robart, who decided to put a temporary restraining order on it.

During the election Trump pledged that he would repeal and replace Obamacare. Currently staying true to his word, it is taking longer than expected. Trump said in an interview with Bill O’Reilly on Super Bowl Sunday that the process may take until 2018. “I would like to say by the end of the year, at least the rudiments, but we should have something within the year and the following year.” Certain Republican leaders are expressing subtle uncertainty in fully repealing Obamacare. The House of Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden believes that instead of repealing and replacing Obamacare, he should simply repair it. Speaker Ryan said on the issue that, “Somewhere along the line there was confusion that we were going to take the Obamacare architecture and, you know, tinker at the margins and repair it.”(sources; bbcnews, foxnews, cnn)

Bias in the Media: Are You Effected? Is your news really true? By JESSICA DEREMER People expect the media to be unbiased and one hundred percent true, but more often than not, that’s not the case. The media that people trust so much is often not trustworthy. Many news networks and newspapers publicize stories that will get people’s attention, rather than stories that have actual substance or factual background. Even worse, many newspapers and television networks don’t always share the true story or blow it out of proportion and make an event seem worse than it actually is. After all, people love drama. Due to aforementioned media bias, many Americans have a strong distrust in the media. According to WashingtonPost.com 44% of Americans trust the media while 55% have little to no trust in the media. Those results are scary. While the data is split, it is scary that the majority of Americans have no trust in the sources that are supposed to be unbiased and provide us with factual information. The Washington Post also said that according to a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, 77% of

those surveyed said that the media has a tendency to favor one side, Left (Democrat) or Right (Republican), compared to a past study done in 1985 where only 53% had claimed that the media was biased. According to a poll conducted by Gallup.com, 55% of Americans had little to no trust in the media as recorded in late 2004. Is it possible to avoid bias in the media? Of course it is. If you think the news you’re getting is biased try to get both sides of the story by getting your news from a different newspapers or networks. This may prove more challenging than you originally bargained, but in the end it’s worth being informed in a just and accurate manner. Also, remember that if a story sounds too good, or too bad, to be true than it probably is. Be sure when getting your content from the media, to form your own opinions as well. Don’t just go blindly in the direction the news is taking you. As long as you are civil about it, you’re allowed to make your own opinions about the media and politics.

3D Printing Body PartsExciting New Advancements in Medicine By Kieran Bedford 3D printing is evolving at a spontane-ous rate. Scientists replicating cells for years now but have also been recreating blood vessels and skin tissue by hand! This is an extremely long process. But the process that 3D printers go through creat-ing complex objects will be useful creating organs and speed up the process.

The process of bioprinting is when sci-entists take biopsy cells or stem cells and these cells will then multiply in a closed environment. This substance, known as biological ink, is put into the 3D printer to create different cellular structures. Mike Titsch, editor-in-chief of 3D Printer World, says that, “The mechani-cal process isn’t all that complicated. The tricky part is the materials, which are bio-logical in nature, it isn’t like 3-D printing plastic or metal. Plastic doesn’t die if you leave it sitting on an open-air shelf at room temperature for too long.”

Statics show that up to 18 people die a day in the US waiting for a vein transplant. These organs are not donated as much as they are needed. Doctors consider this a major health risk. Luckily the US govern-ment is funding these projects.

Last year a breakthrough was made. A girl from Illinois at the age of two had a surgery using her own stem cells creating a trachea, wind pipe, because she was born without one. Now she is breathing on her own. This proves that bioprinting is pos-sible and effective. The person or company that makes the first functioning liver will receive a 1-million-dollar prize. So to all of the bio-chemists in Tunkhannock: get working and save more lives like that little girl.

InterestInterestAlternative FactsI would never lie to youBy BAILEE JONES One thing that has caught the attention of millions was when Counselor to President Trump, Kellyanne Conway, used the term “alternative facts.” On January 21, 2017, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer held his first press briefing. He accused the media of underestimating the size of the crowd for President Trump’s inaugural ceremony and stated that the ceremony had drawn the “largest audience to ever witness an inauguration – period – both in person and around the globe.” According to available data, Spicer’s claims and allegations were false. Spicer also gave incorrect information about the use of white ground coverings during the inauguration. He stated that they were used for the first time during the Trump inauguration and were to blame for a visual effect that had made the audience look smaller. The white ground coverings, however, had been used in 2013 when Obama was sworn in for the second term. Later in an interview with Meet the Press, host Chuck Todd had asked why the White House on Saturday sent Spicer to the briefing podium for the first time to claim that, “this was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period.” Conway responded with, “You’re saying it’s a falsehood. And they’re saying that Sean Spicer, our press secretary, gave alternative facts.” Todd then followed up with asking why Spicer said such a ridiculous claim and Conway responded with, “your job is not to call things ridiculous that are said by our press secretary and our president. That’s not your job.” At the conclusion of the interview Todd tried to once again follow up with the whole alternative facts topic and Conway finished by saying that since the media says what they say, that is the reason they feel compelled to release alternative facts. Since then the whole alternative facts topic has turned into one of a joke and concern for people. With

Trump’s presidency at a rocky start and the American people not trusting the administration, this could turn into a huge problem. It’s not a surprise that Trump attacked media outlets repeatedly since his inauguration - it even happened during the primaries. But with Trump now leading the country, the continuous attacks on media are causing more distrust toward the President and even the media. According to Huffington Post, only 19% of people trust the government in Washington and what they are doing. That figure has dropped from 76% over past decades. The most dramatic drop has been the amount of people who have a great deal of trust in the media; that number currently resides at 6%. That number also dropped drastically from 78% in 1976. With the Trump administration already showing there are things going on behind the scenes that are not being told and increasingly outrageous claims being made, could alternative facts become facts to American people? When the claim that the crowd was the largest at the Trump inauguration and the facts were shown to prove that it was not, people still chose to believe in the falsehood of Spicer’s statement. With the trust in media at an all-time low, people are wary of trusting what is said. The lies and baseless facts being used from the administration are causing more distrust of the media because people believe that the world of media is out to get Trump. And with Trump calling more media outlets liars and having fake news, that 6% could drop even lower. It seems although when the truth comes out or it’s something that Trump doesn’t like is being said, he will go out of his way to attack the writer or the outlet. There is still plenty of time left of Trump’s presidency, unless other circumstances happen, so it will be a trip to see what will come of his attack on the media and the administration’s use of alternative facts.

The Flaws of Modern FeminismBy OLIVIA HEISE Upon reading the title of this article, readers most likely apply whatever bias already held toexpectations of this subject. If so, readers are encouraged to approach the following information with an open mind. In today’s society, feminism is often interpreted falsely. Feminism is defined as political, economic, and social equality of women and men. But from this definition, a miscommunication may form. One of the most common cases of flawed feminism is women mistakingfeminism with misandry, a contempt for men, and falling into the mindset that women are superior to men. Contrary to what appears to be popular belief, feminism is not equivalent to putting down the male gender. Striving for equality between genders should not involve reversing the roles and viewing women as superior. That isn’t what equality is, and it can’t be achieved with that mentality. Part of why modern day feminism is such a flawed concept is because there are women expressing hatredtoward men and labeling themselves as feminists. Misandry most often stems from a woman’s own personal negative experience she has had with a man, and like many cases of prejudice, it can be driven by fear. However, all male viewpoints don’t exist to oppress women, and feminism shouldn’t be approached with that belief. Although it’s important for self-proclaimed feminists to understand that the concept isn’t to be confused with misandry, this should also be understood by those who don’t identify as feminists but still support equal rights for men and women. An article written by Molly Robinson provides a prime example of a lack of understanding on what feminism is: “A sociology professor once asked his classroom who identified as feminists. About five people out of the 50 in attendance raised their hands, all female. Then he asked which of his students believed in gender equality. A vast majority of hands, both male and female, raised in the air.” Feminism and equal rights between genders are the same thing, not two separate ideas. It’s vital to understand that any negative elements of the feminist movement such as reverse-sexism does not set the standard for what feminism entails. It is, always has been, and always will be the notion that people deserve equal rights despite their gender.

Does Handwriting Link to Personality? What does your handwriting style say about you?By JESSICA DEREMER As you’ve probably noticed by now, everyone’s handwriting is different; it’s almost like a fingerprint. Handwriting is unique to each person and can change over time, but have you ever thought about what your handwriting says about you? Different styles of handwriting can mean many things and it can sometimes help solve crimes. Just when you thought humans weren’t unique enough, now we have another element of individuality to delve into. The study of handwriting in a critical sense is called graphology, which can determine a person’s personality, abilities and even the signs of an ongoing medical condition. In a study conducted by The National Pen Company (nationalpen.co.uk) different styles, sizes and shapes can arbitrate different meanings. For example, large letters are connected to outgoing personalities, while small letters tend to have a correlation to shy, withdrawn personalities. The spacing of the letters and words also plays a part in concluding personality. People who have wide spaces between words tend to enjoy freedom and don’t like to be crowded or held down, while people who have narrow spacing hate being alone

and like to be around people. Writing speed has an effect on personality too. People who write quickly tend to be impatient and don’t like to waste time. Those who write slowly have a tendency to be more organized and self-assured. The shape of the letters also determines personality. Rounded letters belong to those who are creative while pointed letters are more assertive and curious. Letters that connect together tend to belong to people who make decisions carefully and who are more logical. Handwriting is also a defining factor when it comes to determining health issues including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. When writing, if the writing starts out dark and then goes to light or vice versa, it could be a sign of high blood pressure. If the writing is very small or cramped, it could be a sign if Parkinson’s disease. If the letters in the writing are altered or unusual, it could be a sign of Alzheimer’s. Although these are good indicators, it’s best to check in with your doctor to clarify. So next time you’re writing, keep these things in mind. Maybe you have a different personality than you thought.

Adoption or Store BoughtWhich is better?By AMANDA ROXBY Pets are a necessity in many households. There are two main ways to obtain pets - through adoption or buying from a store. Both ways provide you with a pet, but what happens behind the scenes? Buying a pet from a store is the way many people choose to go when purchasing an animal. Purchasing a pet sometimes means you are paying for puppy mills to stay in business. Puppy mills are places that keep dogs in tiny crates. They only take the animals out to breed them. They breed female dogs with little to no recovery time in between pregnancies and end up killing the females that are unable to reproduce. Puppy mills are concerned about profit and not the wellbeing of the animal. There are about ten thousand puppy mills in the United States and less than three thousand of them are regulated by the U.S Department of Agriculture. Although you may receive a puppy, you also pay for these places to stay open. Adopting a pet is a much better option, since they have been rescued from less than ideal situations. Pets up for adoption are from families that abused them, neglected them, or simply could not care for them in the way they need. When adopting you receive an animal that needs a home rather than an animal that was made to be sold.

Adoption ends up being cheaper, too. For example, when purchasing a dog, you can end up paying over a thousand dollars, but adopting will only cost you a couple hundred dollars. You may not always receive a puppy (or young animal) but you will be giving an animal a home. Next time you think about getting a pet, think about where it is coming from.Source: dosomething.org

Who Wore It BestFashion or FlunkBy MEGAN HAYWARDLook at the celebrity photos side by side, and decide who actually wore the same outfit better. Ready? Go.

Ask BeverlyXoxo, your girl Bev Dear Beverly, my boyfriend and I have been dating for two and a half years, but after this school year he will be going off to college and I will still be in high school. I really don’t know whether or not we will be able to maintain our steady relationship while he is away. In the past we have had our ups and downs and broke up for a short period of time. I’m just afraid that he will cheat on me while away at college. Every time that I have tried talking to him about it he becomes frustrated and quickly tries to change the subject. I don’t know what steps to take from here, any help would be great! - Dear High school lovers, in all honesty, the best thing to do would be to just break up. The chances of high school relationships working out is possible and do occur, but are rare! Even though you two have been together for two and a half years, if you have had problems in the past, then the chances of the long distance college/high school relationship working out are very slim. If you still are unsure of what you should do then keep trying to talk to him about it, but if he keeps blowing the conversation off then your answer is very clear. Hope this helps and best of luck!

Dear Beverly, this year in gym we have to swim. I absolutely hate it! It makes me uncomfortable and self-conscious about my body. Unfortunately, I can’t get out of it because I don’t have a doctor’s note. Any ideas? Dear Swimmer, this seems to be a common problem and concern for many students in the high school, but the best thing that you could probably do is to talk to your gym teacher privately and explain your situation. If they still don’t understand and say “oh well”, then see your family physician and request an excuse. Dear Beverly, I participate in sports and if I have a bad game my father freaks out and refuses to talk to me. I understand that he’s just trying to teach me a lesson and make me a better person or player, but after a bad game I’m already frustrated with myself and by him acting that way it only makes me angrier. What should I do? Dear Athlete, I would talk to him and explain how his actions after a bad game make you feel and perhaps could influence your performance in future games. Communication in a positive and effective way would be the key to solving this situation. Best of luck!

Swimming in Gym ClassNecessary or not?By AMANDA ROXBY

Swimming has been added to the gym class curriculum. This addition to the somewhat coveted class caused quite the stir amongst students. Whether you like swimming or not, this activity has changed gym forever. Every Tuesday gym students are required to swim, but is it a helpful skill? Swimming has health benefits that you don’t get with every sport. For example, it can help relieve joint pain. Also the sport has many different ways to train; the possibilities are endless. Swimming laps, doing water aerobics, and synchronized swimming are all different ways to train in a pool. The water provides resistance for every move you make, so you end up with a harder workout. Along with all of that swimming increases endurance, circulation, and muscular flexibility. Although swimming has many redeeming qualities, there are also cons. One of the many problems is that people can have a reaction to the chlorine. Besides the obvious risk of drowning, there are also personal problems. Young adults tend to have body image issues and

extreme anxiety, which makes swimming a severe obstacle to overcome. Swimming helps with injuries, but can cause allergic reactions. Swimming offers many health benefits, but in many cases it is not suitable for gym class. How can the school balance these things while including or excluding swimming from the physical education curriculum? The question remains.

What inspires people? What are people’s greatest aspirations? There’s an endless list of reasons how or why people become inspired. In a study taken in 2016, ten women shared their thoughts on what inspires them. The vast majority of the interviewees claimed that they are inspired by going out of their comfort zone in some way. Whether that be taking a risk, learn-ing yoga, or being out of the box creative. Their responses make sense because many middle aged women have already expe-rienced a large portion of their life (in comparison to teenagers) and need to find a fresh take on something to inspire them. Now take the same question and apply it to the high school population. Many teens explained that the pursuit to do better and succeed is what motivates them. Sev-eral others said that their family members inspire them to do the best they can at everything. Regarding family, a portion of those who claimed that their families are their inspiration, it’s not always positive moti-vation but it can sometimes be forceful. Regardless of what in particular tips the

scale between insisting and inspiring, there are many things that people see as motiva-tion, and there’s an abundance of positive outcomes from that.

The cabaret concert, an annual occurrence for the Tunkhannock Area High School Choir, is a casual and fun-filled show with music selections all the way from the early 1960s to the most recent Disney songs. Songs are either performed by the different choir groups, or by soloists that are also in the music department. Groups include the Advanced Vocal Class, singing “Can’t Help Falling in Love” originally performed by Elvis Presley. Full Choir, singing “Dream On” by Aerosmith and a Little Mermaid medley with the different songs from the original movie, plus many more. The soloists include Gabby Hamlet singing her choice of a song, and Emma Rushworth

also singing a song of her choice, and many more. The choir groups, under direction of Ms. Tara Kasperowski, performed March 3rd, a Friday night. There was a lot of buzz going around about this year’s concert, saying that it was the most exciting of the cabaret concerts the choir has put on for years to come. “Dream On”, sung excellently by all members, showed tight harmonies and everyone’s cut-offs were clear. The solo in the song featured Hannah Chesner who managed to dirty up the solo perfectly, and would have made Aerosmith proud. At the conclusion of this piece, an auditorium-wide blackout got the audience ready and excited for the solos to come.

After the choir stepped from the risers, the emcees took over and introduced all the solos and each person captivated the audience with their solos, making every member of the choir proud to be able to perform with them. After intermission, the Advanced Vocal group stepped onto the risers and made it clear that they owned the stage with a beautiful rendition of “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. The harmonies were simple, yet they blended

together smoothly and beautifully. The Emcees took over once more with the second half soloists, who once again made their director proud. The full choir came back to perform their Little Mermaid medley and left the audience feeling like they were in their very own Disney movie. All in all, the concert went so well, and the choir performed wonderfully. The community will surely buzz about this performance for quite a while.

THE PROWLER 9VOLUME XIV, ISSUE XXXI NEWSNEWSMost Beautiful Places in the WorldWhat are the most gorgeous places in the world to visit?By IRELAND CLARK

The world is such a large and vast land that it’s not hard to believe how beautiful it really is. With the towering castles in Germany, to the beaches in Australia, this planet has much to offer when it comes to beautiful landscapes. These are some of the most beautiful places in the world that people in Tunkhannock may not know about. First, Sala de Uyuni, Bolivia. This is where the “world’s largest mirror” resides. In reality, Salar de Uyuni is the world’s largest salt fl at at 10,582 square kilometers. The salt fl at was created when several prehistoric lakes transformed. Sala

de Uyuni gets its “mirror” appearance because the clear skies refl ect off of the salt crystals. You can take a walk on the salt fl at and it seems like you are walking on clouds. Next, are the Tianzi Mountains in China. These tall mountains were named after a farmer named Xiang “Tianzi” Dakun. He led a farmer’s revolt and soon after the mountains were named after him. Tianzi means, “Son of heaven” and seem to describe the mountains well. These tall structures are covered in moss, ivy, trees, shrubs, vines and beautiful plants. Every morning a fog comes in, giving the

5 Books Worth ReadingI promise, they’re better than the moviesBy LOGAN KANDROVY

Kids have adapted to this behavior of “I hate reading” and “Reading is stupid” (Ironic, isn’t it?). Maybe this is because the AR point system in elementary and middle school cheated us, or maybe it was the books we were forced to read. Either way, those books you had to read aren’t an accurate representation of all literature. (No book is, that’s the beauty of it.) And now, reading in your free time isn’t for a grade, it’s for you. Maybe I have this mindset because I grew up loving books, but I have always found comfort inside them. If you have given reading a valid chance and it just isn’t for you, that’s okay. But I don’t think that the book you read in seventh grade counts. Here are fi ve books worth reading. All the Bright Places by Jennifer Nevin This book contains the story of Theodore and Violet who ironically meet on the top of their school, both with the idea of suicide. They both talk each other down from the ledge. While Theo is intrigued, Violet seems to want nothing

to do with him, for fear of what her friend group would say. They are then paired up for a project where they must see the unknown landmarks of their state, Indiana. This book will not fail to make you feel something. Overall I highly suggest this book, you can’t go wrong.Star Girl by Jerry Spinelli This fast read is highly underrated. This book shows the life of a teen, Leo, interrupted when an eccentric and not accepted girl named Stargirl moves to his school. It goes to show the lasting impacts that she left on his high school in small town Mica, Arizona. Star Girl is a beautifully written novel that falls nothing less than extraordinary. There is also a sequel entitled “Love, Star Girl”. If you’re looking for a heartfelt coming of age novel, hit up Stargirl. Elenor & Park by Rainbow Rowell Elenor & Park is so much more than your typical boy meets girl novel. It’s a love story before phones and the internet that captures the “waiting by the phone” feeling that we’ve left behind. The book

mountains an eerie look. Finally, Angkor Wat, Cambodia. These breath-taking temples are the largest religious monument, measuring 402 acres. The temples are surrounded by moats with lotus fl owers. The temples were originally created as a Hindu temple, but became a place for Buddhists. The area is still beautiful however, with unique architecture and wonderful nature. Hopefully eyes have been opened, travel plans made and bags packed. The third planet from the sun offers much to any who seek.

THON 2017We are…for the kids.By Catherine Trexler There are many things you can do in forty-six h ours. From Tunkhannock you can drive to LA in that amount of time with seven hours of rest stops built in. You can watch every Harry Potter movie twice and get partially through the third marathon. You can make thirty-fi ve and a half batches of cookies. Or you can spend the time never sitting and never sleeping to raise money for pediatric cancer patients and their families. THON, which is held at the Bryce Jordan Center at Penn State University every year, is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world with their sole mission being to, “provide emotional and fi nancial support, spread awareness and ensure funding for critical research - all in pursuit of a cure.” This year, students started standing on Friday, February 17 and didn’t sit until Sunday, February 19. During this time there is lots of dancing, local bands play, there was a surprise performance by Joe Jonas’ band DNCE, a pep rally occurs, the pediatric patients play and have a blast, students fi ght the inevitable fatigue and money is raised for the Four Diamonds. The Four Diamonds aims to defeat childhood cancer by working with the Penn State Children’s Hospital. Every year the Four Diamonds provides direct care to approximately 600 pediatric cancer patients. They cover all medical costs that aren’t already covered by insurance to help the family during an already diffi cult time. Since it began in 1972, the Four Diamonds has helped over three thousand seven hundred children and their families. The students at Penn State fundraise for the Four Diamonds all year long through many activities. While working for this cause there seems to be a common train of thought, “One day we will dance in celebration, until then we will dance for a cure.”

Germophobia Ew. By JAZMINE APPEL

charts the ups and downs of being teenage and the real truth of relationships. Elenor and Park is not a book you want to miss. I am the Messenger by Markus Zusak The book starts off with a bank robbery, and if that doesn’t intrigue you, I’m not sure what will. In this humor laced but heartfelt novel, Ed, an underage taxi driver is sent on a mission by an unknown source. He receives a playing card in the mail, with three addresses and three times to be there. As Ed goes down the list, he fi nds himself helping other people. But once he is done, one question remains. Who is sending Ed the messages? The Way We Bared our Souls by Willa Stayhorn Everyone has a problem, whether it’s small or life threatening. Taking place in New Mexico, fi ve teens go out into the desert and perform a ritual that will change them forever. They trade problems. Everything drastically changes, sending them into chaos. The book goes back to the old saying, “You don’t really know someone until you walk a mile in their shoes.”

Germophobia, also known as mysophobia is the fear of contamination and germs. It is often linked to OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: repetitive thoughts or behaviors), to people who constantly feel the need to wash or sanitize their hands. As expected, some germaphobes are more extreme than others. Some might have a small fear of germs and take every action they take to stay sanitary a little more than the average person. Others, however, might feel as though they must live in a bubble and go so extreme as to not eating in restaurants

for fear of other people’s germs being in their food, or refusing to make direct contact with door knobs. Although being clean and sanitary sounds like a good thing, being germaphobic can have several negative impacts on someone. For example, sanitizing your hands every chance you get can weaken your immune system because you aren’t intaking any basic germs, which can make you sick quicker, easier, and longer. Not only that, but not wanting to seem rude when someone is begging you to try the super delicious homemade cookies their mom just made but you just can’t stop thinking about all

the germs on her hands that she’s holding the cookie with. Sometimes everyday actions are hard because of the constant thought of “but what about all the germs there?” consuming your mind and making you timid to do so much as give someone a high fi ve without wanting to cry if you can’t wash your hands within a minute afterwards.

This isn’t to say that people who generally don’t like germs are trying to seem germophobic, it’s common for most people to fi nd certain things pertaining to germs as “disgusting.” Despite the fact that everyone typically has some type of irrational fear or anxiousness about something, phobias are more than that. goodtherapy.org = source
