Plans for an outdoor event quickly changed when a heat index of 106 degrees melted any hope of a Mercedes lawn event. As we approach the final quarter of the year, we will be having our annual Christmas party at The Bistro at Seville as well as our canned food drive. The Board and the officers have already begun planning the 2018 schedule of meetings, events, and tours. This new slate of officers is ready to raise the bar in 2018 with new offerings and opportunities for you to participate and learn. I also want to thank Ben Cunningham for his years of service as our section Vice President and Newsletter Editor. I am very proud of our newsletter and the great job Ben has done. Ben will continue to serve the section as a Board member and assist Kitzy VanDerkoi as she becomes our new editor in the next edition. For those of you who are MBCA members and have not attended a meeting or event, what are you waiting for? For those of you who are reading this newsletter in the lobby of Jackie Cooper Mercedes, check out our website for a list a meetings and events that you might like to participate in. Finally, for those of you who are “regulars” I thank you for your continued support. Eastern Oklahoma MBCA Profiles

Tim and Kitzie Vander Kooi Tim and Kitzie Vander Kooi met while working at a mortgage company in Denver, CO. "Tim had to set up my computer on my first day and started flirting right away." Kitzie recalls; but Tim see's it a different way stating "I just remember her computer kept "breaking" and I was at her desk a lot fixing it!" Whatever the case sparks flew and soon the fire between them burned bright. In fall of 2003 Kitzie asked Tim to move back to her hometown, Collinsville, OK, so she could go to work for her Dad and be closer to family. When Tim agreed without hesitation Kitzie, after first checking his temperature, asked if he was positive and suggested they take a trip so Tim could see Oklahoma for himself... and he loved it. By January of 2004 they made the move to Owasso and began building their life together. Tim and Kitzie were married in July of 2005 and by Summer of 2006 Tim's son Mitchell came to live with them. "I've never wanted to have children." Kitzie states; "but raising Mitch is the best thing I've ever done!" Mitchell, now 21, serves in the Air Force and Tim and Kitzie couldn't be more proud.

Our First Mercedes Benz

The first Mercedes Tim and Kitzie have ever owned is their current 2005 SL500. They purchased the car in July of 2016 and fell in love with it {her} immediately. As tradition requires Tim named his new beauty "Lenig" which is Dutch for "nimble and lithe"; but they lovingly refer to her as "Leni" for short. Tim loves driving the car every day, often wishing his commute was further than 5 miles. Kitzie said she has only been "allowed" to drive the car 3 times since they've owned it and "the first time it was literally around downtown Tulsa for all of 5 minutes!; but she is really looking forward to driving "Leni Benz" with her Mom for the upcoming plantation trip. Tim is hoping that both his wife and his car return in one piece! Kitzie just added a new Mercedes to her side of the garage with the purchase of a 2011 GLK350. Kitzie named her car Ms. Molly after Tim’s repeated exclamations of “Oh good golly!” during their test drive. Tim's dream car would be the AMG SL65 and graciously offered to take William's off his hands if he ever needs space in his garage. Kitzie's dream is torn between the AMG G63 and the Maybach "but only if that comes with a driver!"

Tim and Kitzie have thoroughly enjoyed their time with the Mercedes Benz Club of Eastern OK. "It's exactly what we were hoping for!" they said about meeting the wonderful members and enjoying the trips, car shows and all of the food. "We've always loved taking road trips and seeing new things; and having the opportunity to share in these adventures with others is such a blessing to us." stated Kitzie. The Vander Kooi's are looking forward to many years with MBCEA and are hoping to play a more intricate part with the group by serving on the board. Kitzie would love to see more content being provided on the club's facebook page letting others know how much fun it is to be a part of this group and Tim is excited to help grow the club and increase member participation.

Ice Cream Social always pleases Thirty members and guests attended the annual Ice Cream Social at the home of long time members Fritz, Anna, and Philip Winkler. Guests enjoyed many varieties of ice cream, fruit, Marcus Winkler’s special blueberry cobbler, and special Oktoberfest German beer. It may have been a typical hot August summer day with a heat advisory temperature of 106 degrees but section members remained cool inside the Winkler’s Bixby residence.

The group traveled thru Northwest Arkansas traveling The Arkansas Pig Tail Scenic Drive. We stopped at Wiederkehr Wine Cellars for lunch. We then traveled on to Little Rock where we had dinner at Murry’s Dinner Theater and saw the comedy “The Sunshine Boys”. On Sunday we visited Marlsgate Plantation and we were treated with a wonderful lunch prepared by the Owner – Chef. After the tour the group headed home.
