Tullibigeal Central School Newsletter
Swimming Carnival Congratulations once again to all students who participated in the Swimming Carnival. We have 14 primary students who are now going to compete at the Lower Lachlan Carnival tomorrow. We wish them all the best.
The NRL visit last week was successful with a hopeful message being given to both the primary students and the Year 7-10 students. The agenda of these visits was to point out the value in setting goals and then translating them into short term goals. The NRL contains many examples of players whose success can be traced back to setting and striving for goals and we thank them for their input.
Also last Thursday Miss Goldthorpe and the Year 7 – 10 students spent time in a VC with Josh Richards who hopes to be selected for the Mars Mission in 2020. Our kids found the VC most inspiring and Braden and Harley won the mini comp which was conducted in the VC.
Competition: Later in the newsletter is a copy of a sheet which will be handed out to all students in Years 2 – 12 tomorrow. Students in these years are invited to enter competitions and this sheet is written in an effort to help us all get organised about them. Even if a student finds a competition difficult they will benefit from doing their best. I was impressed with the great efforts of the 7 students who entered the Australian Mathematics Competition in 2015 I am hoping for more students to enter competitions and feel successful
in 2016. As you will see from the sheet the cost of entering is significantly subsidised by the school.
There is currently a review of uniform policy in the school. Overall the wearing of uniform by our students is great but there is always room for improvement. Amongst the areas being discussed is the wearing of hats. Students are reminded to always bring a hat to school and to wear it while they are in the playground. We will be sourcing wide brimmed hats in school colours as inexpensively as we can. It will not be a requirement to wear these but they will be available. Hats which students bring to school must be appropriate i.e. no adult jokes and no advertisements for alcohol. Another topic has been the appropriateness of footwear. Work Health and Safety considerations are important to the safety of all students in the workshop, the kitchen and the Science lab.
I have been pleased to see many students working hard and applying themselves consistently. For example 2 primary boys were sent to me today by their teacher to show me their great work. Well done Jack and Ricky. I would make a point of encouraging the senior students to use their time wisely. They never have a “free period” but it takes a mature attitude to make the most of the time when they can study independently in the senior room. All the best from the blow-in… See you next week,
Until next week… Tom Garvey Principal

3 – 6 HOME LEARNING
Students in Years 3 to 6 have started home learning again this week. Numeracy and Literacy sheets are the same layout as last year and have been handed out for the term. It is encouraged that students complete one Literacy and one Numeracy sheet a week starting with week 4 and work through to week 10. They have their weekly spelling words to complete each night, Thursday is a free choice spelling activity or spelling bee.
Students will be completing small projects throughout the term based on a range of themes. The first one is I’m A Student Get Me Out Of Here! This is a three-week project and is due Friday the 4th March.
Home Learning is not meant to be overly challenging or stressful, if your child is experiencing any difficulties completing the work, please contact Miss Pearce.
Thanks Miss Pearce.
NRL PROGRAM
Last Thursday we had a special visitor to our school, Andrew Herbert, a Game Development Officer from NRL. He came to talk to our primary students about wellbeing, hydration, belonging and the importance of sleep. The high school students were involved in program called Dream/Believe/Achieve. Students enjoyed the time and were involved in the program through small games and quizzes. We hope to be seeing Andrew at our school again to run some skills clinics.
Miss Pearce
Year 7 Vaccinations Students in Year 7 will receive their vaccination on Wednesday. Students who have not returned their note will need to do so before they can receive their vaccination.
Secondary assessments Secondary assessment booklets will be out to both Year 7-8 and 9-10 this week. Students should use this assessment booklet to organise their assessment schedule ensuring they know when their assessments are due. I will be working with all students and staff to develop a process for students to organise their assessments. A reminder to students that assessments are a way to develop their knowledge in a subject. Whilst all teachers are willing to provide feedback and guidance in relation to assessments this work needs to be completed by the students. All assessments will be due to my office before 9am on Tuesdays.
Senior Room It is good to see our new senior students have settled into the year well. A reminder to all these students that the work in this room is a step up from last year and takes a lot of self-direction to get it complete on time. Students never have a ‘free’ lesson in the senior room, there is always work they can be completing. All senior students will receive a mentor teacher who will help them with time management and developing effective study behaviours. Students also need to understand that to be successful in the HSC they need to complete school work at home as well.
