Tulip treeIt can be found in the Brukenthal Garden.Its origins are in America and blossoms at the end of May.

The Orthodox Church (1, Gheorghe Lazar street) It was built by the local inhabitants in the XVIIIth

century on the same place of the old church.The building is simple with thick walls and Gothic

style windows. On the West side, there is the Bell Tower with a fresco vault. The frescos were made

by the craftsmen Ionascu and Pana and they the most valuable in Transylvania. On the right side of

the exit, you will see the memorial house of the Enlightening scholar Gheorghe Lazar, the initiator

Museum of Avrig (1, Gheorghe Lazar street)

You can admire traditional objects and an exhibition dedicated to Gheorghe Lazar.

You can learn the technique of painting glass icons in the crafts workshop. Once a week, the

children come to paint and wave.

Fortified Church (12, Gheorghe Lazar street)

In the XIII rd century, in order to strengthen the Saxon position in Avrig, it was built the

Evangelical Church. The fortified walls were built in the XVth century. It must be remarked

the portal built in Roman style and its Medieval sculptures. A clock was donated by Samuel

The Brukenthal Manor House (39, Gheorghe Lazar street)

The palace was built in the late Baroque style after the model of the

Schonbrunn Palais in Vien. Consisting of terraces, stone stairs, water basins,

brooks, rare plants species, the park is unique in Europe being kept in its original

Waving workshops (12, Sasilor street)

The art of waving is learned by the young people of Avrig on looms

that are older than 100 years. The models are the same as on the old

waved cloths, respecting the black and red colouring.

Art workshop (49, Cioplea street)

The artist, Moscu Stefan, makes sculptures in wood, oil paintings and

coal graphics. Together with his father, who is also a sculptor, he

made ice works for the Ice Hotel at Balea Lac resort.

Glass factory – “Glajaria” - (114, S. Brukenthal street)

Please, have a 30 minute walking to the Glass Factory. In 1830,

the Glajaria from Porumbacu moved to Avrig near the river which was used as hydraulic force. The first craftsmen
