Year 3 Overview

Good morning Year 3 students,
Welcome to Week 3 of at home learning for Term 4.
Again this week there will be 2 booklets. The first one is for Monday andTuesday. The second one is for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
This week we will be having three Zoom sessions with your teachers, one onMonday, Wednesday and Thursday. We will also be having an additional excursion Zoom on Wednesdayafternoon. Your class teacher will send you the links for these; look out for them in your school email.
Please only submit the work requested by your teachers on Seesaw. These activities are marked with astar in the overview so you can clearly see which ones to submit.
Please remember to keep all your work together with your booklets. Answers will be sent out each Fridayby your class teacher. You will bring your completed booklets back to your teacher when you return toschool.

Morning English
Independent oral reading (20 minutes)- This week you have been assigned four separate
readers. You will read one new book on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. As you read
these books, you are going to record yourself reading out loud and submit this on the PME
website as you have practised in last week.
Tasks:
1. Log into the PME website
2. Choose which book you would like to read today and record yourself reading aloud
using the recording tool

Tasks:

2. Turn to the page ‘Tiddalick the Frog’ in your booklet and read the story.
3. Turn to the second ‘Tiddalick the Frog’ page and use the questions to help you give a
short summary of the story
Spelling -
This week for spelling we are looking at words with the/ou/ sound (for example house) and with the /oi/ sound(for example coin). There are two different graphemesfor each of these sounds.
Tasks:
1. Complete the Seesaw activity ‘W3 Spelling The /ou/ and /oi/ sounds. There areTWO slides within this Seesaw task for you to complete. Remember to sort the wordsand then add your own.
2. Go to the ‘Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check’ page in your booklet.3. Choose TWELVE words from your Seesaw spelling activity to create your spelling list
in the first column. These should be twelve challenging words that you have sortedor listed.
4. Practice your spelling words by completing the second column within the table.

Writing - Setting
Today we are exploring the setting within fairy tales and learningabout how we can develop these fantasy lands within our ownwriting. When describing the setting within a fairy tale or anynarrative, we should be using our five senses to create a moredetailed image of the place within the reader’s mind.
Tasks:
1. Watch the clock tower fairytale on literacy shed.

2. Replay the video and pause it on one of the opening images of the village.
3. Use this image of the village to complete the ‘show, don’t tell’ sheet within your
booklet. Ask yourself, What can I smell, feel, see, taste and touch as a character
within this setting? Make sure to use complete sentences and powerful adjectives.
Optional Task: On a spare piece of paper, use your completed ‘Show, don’t tell’ sheet to
write a paragraph which introduces and describes this fairy tale setting.

Afternoon Science
In today’s lesson we continue our inquiry into ‘How do living things survive?’.
Last week you focused upon what humans need to survive. Today you will learn about what
plants need to survive and grow.
To complete this lesson, work through the assigned Seesaw activity.
You will watch videos, read information, and complete various activities to learn about the
needs of plants, in particular tomato plants.
● Read instructions carefully.
● Complete EVERY page.
● Submit your work when completed.

Tasks:
1. Read the newspaper article of ‘Jack and the Bean Stalk’ in your booklet
2. Complete the ‘Fairy Tale Web’ page in your booklet.
You will need to think about the setting, the different character types as well as write one
or two sentences giving a short retell of what happens in the beginning, middle and end.
GrammarToday we are looking at ‘verbs’ and ‘tenses’ - two very important parts of any type of
writing.
Verbs = doing words, action words e.g. go, jump, know, swim, eat….
Tenses = the time an action happened (involves changing the verb form)
Tasks
1. Find the worksheet in your booklet titled ‘Verbs and Sentences’.
2. Circle the verbs in the box at the top of the page
3. Complete the text, making sure your verbs are in the right tense
Writing - Fractured Fairy Tales
Today we are learning about fractured fairy tales. A fractured fairy tale
takes a classic fairy tale and adds a twist, changes the characters and
setting, or makes it more modern.
Tasks:

This term we are looking at Art Around the World.Today we will be exploring some forms of African art.
Tasks:
1. Log in to Seesaw and open the “My African Art” activity.
2. Watch the video to learn about Africa and African art.
3. In your booklet on the page “Kente Cloth Examples” look at the
pattern examples and colour them in.
4. On the following page in your booklet “My Kente Cloth” create
your own Kente Cloth and explain what patterns you used.
5. Upload a photo of your artwork to your journal.
