Thursday 4th June

Today you are going to plan and begin your own profile on a capital

city of an EU country that we have not looked at yet.

You will be using the same format as the profiles that we have

looked at this week.

Success Criteria for Capital City Profile

• Title

Paragraph 1

• What is the name of the city and what country is it the capital

of?

• Describe the location of the city.

• Include some information on the history of the city.

Paragraph 2

• When did the country join the EU?

• Write a few sentences about the city in modern times –

culture, famous sites, food etc.

Fact File

• Population

• Languages

• Currency

• Famous Sites

• Tasty Treats

If you are handwriting your fact file, you might like to include some

drawings of some famous sights, or if you are typing it you could

include some photos from Google.

*Note if you would like to type your profile and upload it to Seesaw,

you can type it on Microsoft Word but then you must save it as a

PDF in order for it to upload*

Air Resistance and Parachute Design Activity

It is a parachute’s job to cause as much air resistance as possible by trapping as much air as

it can.

What do you think happens to the speed of a falling object the greater the air resistance it

has?

AIR It will slow down!

The bigger something is, the more air resistance there will be pushing against it.

Your Challenge:

Design a parachute

Examples of materials:

• Plastic bag

• String

• Paper

• Masking tape

Remember:

the bigger the parachute = the more air resistance

Checklist:

• Make your parachute and attach to a small figure (if possible)

• Test your parachute – the higher you stand the more accurate the reading.

• Drop the parachute at least two or three times to get an average.

You will need:

• 1 person to drop the parachute

• 1 person to time the parachute using a stopwatch

Remember: Use a ruler to measure so that everything is the same. Be precise!

Best of luck ☺

Music June 4th 2020 The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba By G.F. Handel German-born George Frideric Handel was living in London when this piece was first performed, almost 300 years ago. From having listened to this piece a few times, you will have noticed that it’s made up of two main parts, the strings followed by two of the same woodwind instruments.

1. Do you prefer the parts where the strings play or the parts where the woodwind play? 2. You will have noticed some very well-dressed people sitting behind the musicians. Who do you think they are? 3. Going back to the string instruments, are they being plucked or bowed? 4. Of the four main instruments in the string family, are they all being used in this piece? 5. What instrument is being played at 2min 56 seconds? 6. What is the job title of the man facing the musicians? 7. When the musicians aren’t looking at their music sheets, who or what are they looking at?
