Studien zeigen die stark wachsende Bedeutung der IKT-Branche. Dies gilt insbesondere für

die Softwareindustrie und IKT-Dienstleistungen. Zur weiteren Stärkung der IKT-Branche haben die im Verein „FrankfurtRheinMain – Verein zur För-derung der Standortentwicklung e.V.“ zusammen-geschlossenen Vertreter aus Politik, Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft den Aufbau des House of IT beschlossen. Das House of IT soll – neben den bereits etablierten House of Finance und House of Logistics & Mobility – dazu beitragen, die wis-senschaftlichen und wirtschaftlichen Stärken der Region international noch sichtbarer zu machen.

Das House of IT ist ein Ort der Begegnung, des Austauschs und der Kooperation. Dabei integriert das House of IT zum einen bestehende IKT-Initia-tiven und -angebote in der Region. Großprojekte, wie das Center for Advanced Security Research Darmstadt (CASED) sowie die Geschäftsstelle des Spitzenclusters „Softwareinnovationen für das di-gitale Unternehmen“, sind zur Schaffung von Sy-nergien im House of IT beheimatet. Zum anderen werden im Rahmen des House of IT neue Projek-te und Angebote aufgebaut. Dazu wurde ein auf drei Säulen ruhendes Gesamtkonzept erarbeitet: Forschung und Wissen-/ Technologietransfer, Wei-terbildung und Lehre sowie Unternehmensgrün-dungen und Wachstum. Die Aktivitäten stehen unter dem Leitbild der Interdisziplinarität und der hohen Vernetzung der Akteure aus Politik, Wirt-schaft und Wissenschaft mit dem Ziel, nachhaltige Innovationen zu schaffen.

S tudies show strongly increasing relevance of the ICT sector, especially in the fields of the

software industry and ICT services. In order to further strengthen the ICT industry, the “Frank-furtRheinMain – Verein zur Förderung der Stand-ortentwicklung e.V.” initiated the establishment of the House of IT, which is led by a coalition of representatives from industry, science, and government. In addition to the already establis-hed House of Finance and House of Logistics & Mobility, the House of IT will make the scientific and economical strengths of the region internati-onally even more visible.

The House of IT is a place to meet, exchange ideas, and collaborate. In this context, on the one hand, the House of IT integrates existing ICT initiatives and potential in the region. In order to create synergies, large-scale projects like the Center for Advanced Security Research Darm-stadt (CASED) as well as the management office of the software-cluster “Software Innovations for the Digital Enterprise” are located in the House of IT. On the other hand, the House of IT also facilitates new projects and assists in establi-shing existing potential. For the House of IT, an overall concept relying on three pillars has been developed: Research as well as knowledge and technology transfer, teaching and executive edu-cation, professional training, and also start-ups, entrepreneurship and growth. The activities are under the guiding principle of interdisciplinarity and the highly interconnected relations between actors from industry, science and the govern-ment all with the goal of creating sustainable innovations.

Das House of IT ist in der Wissenschaftsstadt Darmstadt beheimatet. Kaum eine andere Re-

gion bündelt europaweit mehr Kompetenzen in den Bereichen Software und IKT. Dies zeigt auch der Erfolg der Region im BMBF-Spitzencluster-wettbewerb für den Cluster „Softwareinnovatio-nen für das digitale Unternehmen“.

Die Bedeutung der IKT-Industrie für die Region wird gleichermaßen durch folgende Zahlen ein-drucksvoll bestätigt: In Hessen sind in der IKT-Branche knapp 100.000 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter beschäftigt. Dabei bildet die Software-industrie mit knapp 4.000 Softwarehäusern einen Schwerpunkt in der IKT-Landschaft der Region.

Neben den IKT-Anbietern existiert in der Rhein-Main-Region eine Vielzahl von Anwendern, für die der Einsatz von IKT essenziell ist. Hierzu zählen die Finanzbranche in Frankfurt, die Logis-tikbranche rund um einen der weltweit größten Verkehrsknotenpunkte sowie die Pharma- / Life-Sciences-Branche, die ebenfalls im Rhein-Main-Gebiet stark konzentriert ist.

Hinzu kommen viele kleine und mittelständische Unternehmen sowie IKT-Beratungsgesellschaften mit Sitz in der Region.

Daraus ergeben sich vielfältige und vielverspre-chende Möglichkeiten für Kooperationen mit dem House of Finance, dem House of Logistics and Mobility sowie dem geplanten House of Pharma.

T he House of IT is located in the science city of Darmstadt. No other European region com-

bines more ICT competencies in the software and ICT sector. One example of this region’s ICT com-petency is the success in the “Leading Edge Clus-ter Competition“ of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research for the software-cluster, “Software Innovations for the Digital Enterprise”.

The importance of the ICT sector for the region is impressively confirmed by the following facts: In the state of Hesse, almost 100.000 employees are working in the ICT industry. The software industry with almost 4.000 software companies represents the focal point in the ICT landscape of the region.

In addition to the ICT vendors, a wide range of ICT-dependent companies from other industries are located in the Rhine-Main region. Among them the finance sector in Frankfurt, the logistics sector around one of the world’s major transpor-tation hubs and the pharmaceutical / life-sciences industry.

In addition, there is a variety of small to medium sized companies as well as ICT consulting compa-nies that are based in this region.

Hence, there are plenty of promising opportuni-ties for cooperations with the House of Finance, the House of Logistics and Mobility and the plan-ned House of Pharma.

I n the House of IT, computer scientists work together with engineers, economists, business

specialists, natural scientists as well as with legal and humanities scholars interdisciplinarily. The House of IT utilizes the regionally concentrated expertise in computer science related research.

Das House of IT hat ein Angebotsprogramm entwickelt, das seinen Mitgliedern den Zu-

Das House of IT soll ein Ort der Begegnung und des Austauschs zwischen Unternehmen, Politik und Hochschulen sein. Das bedeutet etwa, dass Unternehmen die Chance erhalten, mit Wissen-schaftlern im House of IT in gemeinsamen For-schungsprojekten eng zusammenzuarbeiten. Auf diese Weise sollen die Praxisrelevanz der Forschungsaktivitäten weiter erhöht und der Wissens- und Technologietransfer vorangetrie-ben werden. Zudem bieten solche Kooperationen durch Knowledge-Spillovers bessere Chancen, innovativere Ergebnisse zu erzielen. Für eine solche kooperative Zusammenarbeit ist trotz flä-chendeckender Verfügbarkeit moderner IuK-Tech-nologien räumliche Nähe der beteiligten Partner von entscheidender Bedeutung.

The House of IT is designed as a collaboration fo-rum for industry, science and government. Thus, companies get the opportunity to closely collabo-rate with scientists and to work on joint research projects in the House of IT. This way, the practical relevance of research will be further increased and knowledge and technology transfer will be stimulated. In addition, these collaborations of-fer the opportunity of achieving more innovative results due to knowledge spillovers. For such a close collaboration, spatial proximity of the part-ners is of high importance.

In collaboration with CASED, an “Institute for In-terdisciplinary Studies on the Future Internet“ will be established in the House of IT. This institute will analyze future-oriented topics for example in the fields of Internet Security, Privacy & Trust, Internet Economy, Mobile Communications, Cloud Computing from an interdisciplinary perspective rather than from the classical technological point of view.

ALL THESE TOPICS WILL BE ANALyZED FROM THE FOLLOWING PERSPECTIVES:

Development of Future Internet Technologies,

Development of Future Internet Business Models as well as Future Internet Proces-ses, and

Design of the Future Internet Society.

The thematic focus will be determined by the executive board of the House of IT in coopera-tion with an advisory board. Both bodies will be composed of high-level representatives of the go-vernment, corporations and academia. Members of the House of IT are invited to participate in joint research projects and take a role in desig-ning the future orientation of the House of IT.

Die berufliche Weiterbildung von Mitarbeiter-innen und Mitarbeitern ist ein zentrales Ele-

ment von Personalentwicklungsmaßnahmen in Unternehmen. In diesem Zusammenhang sollen im House of IT in Kooperation mit regionalen, nationalen aber auch internationalen Partnern Weiterbildungsprogramme für IKT-Fachkräfte entwickelt werden. Diese sollen von einfachen Seminaren und Zertifikatskursen („Open Enroll-ment“) über Web Trainings bis hin zu einem Mas-terprogramm sowie auf bestimmte Unternehmen zugeschnittene „Customized Programs“ reichen. Alle Programme verfolgen die Idee der Interdis-ziplinarität: Dies bedeutet konkret, dass IKT-Fachkräfte Know-how in Bereichen wie General Management / Betriebswirtschaftslehre, Recht, Wirtschaftsinformatik, aber auch in aktuellen Themenfeldern der Informatik, wie z. B. IT-Sicher-heit, erwerben und vertiefen können.

T he training and education of employees is a central element of the personnel develop-

ment measures of many companies. In coopera-tion with regional and international partners, an advanced training program for ICT professionals – Executive Education – will be offered in the House of IT. These trainings will range from semi-nars and workshops (“Open Enrollment”) to web trainings, a master’s program, as well as custo-mized programs which serve the needs of indivi-dual companies. All programs pursue the idea of being interdisciplinary. In this context, that im-plies that ICT professionals can obtain know-how in areas like general management and business administration, law and information systems, as well as in current topic areas of computer sci-ence, e. g. IT security.
