This summer, youth programming will again take a squelchy splash! Join us on the evenings of June 14th, 28th, July 12th, 26th & and August 11th (Friday Night Pool Party at 7pm). Every other week, please come to the church at 5:30. Each week there will be a Bible lesson and a time of fellowship for children 3 years old through upper elementary. If you have Middle School or High School youth interested, please have them come and help out!
Father’s DayFather’s DayFather’s DayFather’s Day Father’s Day is June 18th! As in previous years, you have the opportunity to honor or remember men who have mattered in your life via a donation to the Trustee’s Handyman Fund. Please fill out a memorial/honor form and turn in to the office along with your donation by June 14 to have their name included in the Honor/Memorial booklet on Father’s day. Forms can be found in weekly bulletins.
Youth Mission TripYouth Mission TripYouth Mission TripYouth Mission Trip Our youth will be working in Rhode Island July 23-29. The Blackstone River Valley has a long history in the world of manufacturing and commerce. City revitalization began in the 1990's and has included housing renovation projects as well as focused improvements to the greater community. Our youth will help the residents of Woonsocket realize this future and bring the vision to reality as they become part of a greater purpose through home repairs for the people of the Blackstone Valley. Please be in prayer for this group as they go out and spread God’s love.
One Service SundayOne Service SundayOne Service SundayOne Service Sunday Please join us on June 25th for a special One Service Sunday. The worship service will begin at 10am and will be led by Jake’s Boys. We hope that everyone can join us. Also, this would be a great service to invite a friend or family member. Let’s all come out and show our support for Jake’s Boys and GCUMC!

you to participate in a bike event that will be held in Channahon on Sunday, July 23rd. The ride is sponsored by the not-for-profit organization FARA. All proceeds will go to funding research and awareness for a neuromuscular disease called Friedreich’s Ataxia. Friedreich’s Ataxia is a genetic, debilitating, life-shortening disease. Our youngest daughter, Emily was diagnosed with Friedreich’s Ataxia about 9 years ago. Since then our family has been actively involved in fundraising efforts for research. This is our 6th year for the ride. The ride offers a 4, 12, 27, and 50 mile route choice. All routes start and end in Central Park in Channahon. Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba’s Italian Grill and Bonefish Grill feed all participants post ride. Emily was recently enrolled in a clinical trial for 18 months. This is possible, in part, because of donations like yours. Come on out and be a part of the cure! For registration information please go to: rideATAXIA.org/Chicago

Every June, each church (or charge) sends their clergy and lay delegate(s) to an annual meeting for spiritual, missional, and community formation and conferencing. This meeting is called Annual Conference. All clergy, elders and deacons, are required to attend. You can attend as a visitor, or watch thru a link at www.igrc.org.
Our bishop is Rev. Frank Beard who hopes that “each person, as well as those participating online, will leave ignited and excited about Jesus Christ. I believe that if we allow the Holy Spirit to set us on fire, we will be successful in achieving our mission of ‘making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world’”.
GCUMC Lay delegate Virgil Rosendale and I will be attending this year’s Illinois Great Rivers Annual Conference at the Peoria Civic Center from June 8-10.
This years’ workshops include:
• Building the Church in Prayer— led by Dr. Terry Teykl
• Can We Talk? Led by Rev. Sephanie Ann Hixon
• Evangelism for Non-Evangelists—led by Dr. Mark Teasdale
• Reaching New and Next Generations— led by Revs. Jessica Baldyg & Joe Sheets
Workshops are scheduled for 12:15-1:15 on Thursday and Friday.
I have heard Dr. Terry Teykl speak at a couple of conferences that I have attended. He mixes a deep felt passion that revival comes from prayer, with a delightful sense of humor. He is worth your time to watch online.
John and Charles Wesley believed that Christian conversation was essential for Christians to grow in faith. Thus, early Methodism required attendance at a local class meeting where they could discuss how they experienced God in daily living and thru spiritual devotion. As Methodism grew, the first conference was held in 1744. Today, the U.S. has 56 annual conferences.

Nineteen GC UMC-ers attended the Reaching New People workshop, hosted by our church on April 29. Mike Crawford, Conference Dir. of Congregational Development, led participants in exercises of reflection and visioning, including planning the next action step in reaching unchurched people. Watch for more information coming through Connection Team.
Sam Horsch, a student of Duke Divinity School, recently completed his Spring semester. His courses included: Engaging Modernity, Introduction to New Testament, and Nature and Native Americans.
Susan Schultz, an Asbury Theological Seminary student, completed her Spring course: Theology and Practice of Preaching. Susan was able to share her learning experience by bringing the message to our congregation three times during the semester. She says, "Thanks for letting me practice on you!”
Living is a learning experience; be open to ways God is teaching you!
Mark Your CalendarsMark Your CalendarsMark Your CalendarsMark Your Calendars The Connection Team is excited to announce a new opportunity for our church family to come together -- 5th Sunday Fellowship Hour! Snacks and drinks will be provided by the Connection Team.
Our children will enjoy snack time with us and then head off to Sunday School. Adult Sunday School classes are invited to stay for all or part of the fellowship time.
Please consider participating in this time of friendship and conversation! For more information, contact any member of the Connection Team.
