Vol. 1. Issue 1March 2011

By Smokytopaz

There's an Egyptian World starting if you fancy that, New world being built to go with the open invitation for lots.

The Victorian thread is still pulling in some fantastic lots, the latest being Jasniks Seagulls Nest.

Not sure what X0X1 is on but there are three at least new uploads this week alone. Glad you are feeling better X0X1!

In the writers Room, Kaleeko is keeping us in suspence with her vampire crime story. Oh and Stu's little pink ghostie is still keeping us all in thrall.

A lot of gossip, and dreaming going on about the next expansion packs. Generations has given way once again to Pets Please. Mind you there is a spiral staircase rumoured in Generation.

Haze is still building Doug Bridges home. Judy is remodelling the Alto house. Well someone had to.

Larissa keeps producing some really neat sims..... James Dean is the latest. TW is recalling her childhood with Barbie sims.

Machinima seems a little slow the last one being Mickys first go at it - Girl with one eye.http://www.simmerssociety.net/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=10&id=98355&Itemid=56#98355

Pogi put in appearance, so did Fidler. The Juliababyjen came back with a bang. I believe Wicked put his head round the door. Micky is going for captain this year, hope it works Micky! Garbuncle sadly seems to have had enough of simming. Oh and Cabertha is lambing.

Lil is poorly and been in hospital, get well soon Lil we miss you!

Picture Perfect is a weekly challenge usually just designing one room to suit the outlined style. This particular week was inspired by pictures of New York with all the roof tops done as gardens. So in a true eco warrior style contestants were invited to submit a roof garden. I tink you will agree they came up trumps.

Bylos came up with this one, I could not resist this nightshot.

Silly Cailey did a beauty, full of lovely custom content.

Flobo did a city garden, complete with water feature.

Haze came up with thisformal roof top park

Jasnik did this cool sophisticated version.

Then nam went in a completely different direction with her slightly illegal garden in a rental.

Poor Judy, photobucket ate all herpictures, but as usual she rose tothe challenge and made a Faire Glen.

Now who won? Well......... Comments first

Flobo
Cera-I love that your garden is so private! The plants, rocks, the fountain, and wood all lend to a very calming natural environment!
Tweek-I really like the wood. The flowers over the wall trellis looks great.I have the urge to get a tan now. Good job!

Haze
Cera-Your hedge maze is really cool! Love the fountain as well, it looks like a city park on the roof! I really like those hedges!
Tweek-Your flowers are definitely in the clouds. I like the hedge maze look. Nice pool! Great entry!!

Bylos
Cera-You made pattern for the challenge? Awesome! It looks great, it really does look like grass and would make me think of a park, so far from a roof!
Tweek-I really like this. It looks like a great place to have a picnic. YAY...bunny!!! Great job!

Judy
Cera-Can not see the pictures! What I remember, it is a very cute little space, woodsy, rooftop garden and some fun things to do too!
Tweek-It looks like a fairy tale. I love all the plants. Looks great!

Nam
Cera-Oh, look at all the plants (drool). I really like the work around for all the roof top building equipment. Great additions to the roof!
Tweek-Hey...I can see my house from here...literally! Great patio! Nice plants...all hydroponic huh?

Caily
Cera-Cool space, I love how private it is! The veggie garden is super cute (love the veggie box labels!), cute potting shed! the rest of the space looks to be a perfect place for relaxing!

And with cc, winner is Cailey and hon mention goes to Nam.

Well done everyone!

A Quick Look At Builders Showcaseby simtweek

Have you been around the Builders Showcase threads lately? There are a few new buildings available for download from some of our talented simmers. Lets take a quick look at three of them.

First up is flobo's newest build called Aqua Breeze This beautiful lot has a turquoise blue interior with great wood accents. It has a rooftop garden which she also entered in the Picture Perfect challenge. Great landscaping with a pool and hot tub. This build is completely CC free but does contain a few patterns (which I usually don't count as CC). Stop by flobo's build thread and check it out. Although she is having problems with the exchange (who isn't?) this build is still available through 4shared. http://www.4shared.com/file/0uTth_ZP/Aqua_Breeze.html

Cera13 has a cute little french home called Petite Four. She buillt this home on a custom 20x20 lot. These lots are available in edit mode and can be placed anywhere in your existing world. This cute little home has one bedroom and is decorated in blue. It is beautifully landscaped and is CC free. There is a custom pattern in this home made by Peacemaker_ic. Stop by Cera's thread and check it out. This home is available on the exchange...that is if you're not having problems getting on the TS3 website. http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=3869723

I've seen that kquinn1990 has built a doozy of a house. A giant mansion called Whitebrook Estate. An impressivly large place with a grand entrance, large dinning room that seats 12, a home theater and a formal living room with bookcases galore just to name a few features. With beautiful pools and a hot tub in the backyard and elegant landscaping at the entrance you really need to check this place out. It is available on the exchange: www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=3879106 Stop by his build thread and check out all the great pictures.

B5 Studio

I love cc. I love looking at cc and wondering how they did it, I guess its a form of window shopping. I don't always put it in game but I still have to know about it. So occasionally I come across a blog or site that has stuff that make you drool and is worth bookmarking and going back to see what's new.

A site I love is B5's Studio, original, quirky and with plenty of stuff to lust after. The blog itself is beautifully presented, well laid out and just a little off the wall. Here's the link http://b5studio.blogspot.com/

When decorating your sims homes, the things that often make the difference are art work and rugs, the ea ones becoming quickly boring. And boy does B5 Studio have just the stuff you need.

Beautiful rugs, I just love the classical orientals. There are 12 rugs in this package.

There are traditional reds and browns and the newest are green based.

There is a blue based set as well. The rugs are large, look great under a table or as a centre piece for the room. You can then decorate based on the colours in the rug and it looks terrific.

I used the colours in the rug to make this peachy living room for a Victorian house.

Don't forget to check out the kilims, bright and jazzy, perfect for a modern build.

The art work too is worth a wander round. I think he is involved in something arty anyway so his choice of pictures is just lovely. There are moderns, traditional, gothic, japanese..... lots to look at.

Most of the cc is available as .packages, which I find the easiest to control as I just save them to a folder in my computer and I can put them in game as and when I want to.

More prints.

There is some reconditioned, revamped looking items too, great for your green simmie!

Pretty if odd clutter! I thinks its sweet. The studio reminds me of those little back street boutiques that sell interesting if useless stuff that you just got to have.

So go have a look at this studio, I have only shown a taster of what's in there. I have used his cc in my builds and they look great, you can't upload with them but for playing and making your lot look special there's something that is just right.

Perhaps Hanzel is not all he should be,Be afraid.Very afraid.

In TSS we are nothing if not ambitious and a while ago Melanie Kay thought she would like to rebuild Versailles. The Palace, the Gardens everything. It has grown over the weeks and there are French farmhouses, nectaries, mills and residential homes. It has its own world built by playKimsim. There are a fair few lots left so if you want to have a go at something a little je n'sais pas, fancy a little place of your own in the soft hills of this little land you had better go book one up.

In the meanwhile there have been some lovely lots produced and displayed but this time the focus will just be on one.

Many have seen Mythago's builds and there is something about the way she builds and decorates that is quite distinctive.

The French Village House by Mythago

The exterior of the house shows something really French before you even go inside. Is it the bike leaning casually against the wall, the lamps? Or indeed the grey shutters?

The kitchen is ecru with light blue touches, very French country style. No strong colours but light and airy throughout. This continues through the lot as you can see.

The colours flow, the art work adds just that little ping of contrast and yet there is nothing stilted or uncomfortable in this house, its ready for that family to grow up in, to cook and entertain in to live a full and happy sim life in. A perfect French maison.

Mythago does not use custom content so all the furnishings and dcor is available at the Sims3 store or on the eps. You could own this little gem, off you go to the exchange and get it right now.

And thats all folks for this week!
