TRYING TO PAINT WITH FRACTALS – STUDY PLAN AND

DOCUMENTATION

SECOND TRY

Starting date: Oct. 18, 2013

Program: Mandelbulb 3D. Program version 1.8.9

Plan:

1.  First try to make an interesting form. Don’t worry about colors and light;

2.  Then look around inside and out, up, down and around for an interesting view;

3.  Study color options;

4.  Study lighting options;

5.  Finally render options;

Part One: Forms and formulas:

6.  Use simple formulas, varying the basic options one by one;

7.  Use preview option to find an interesting form;

8.  Try and make changes systematically just to the formulas;

a.  Document what was changed step by step;

b.  Save for subsequent review and going in different directions;

Part One Results:

Initial opening screen: Only Formula 1 as Integer Power = 8 and Z multiplier = -1.

Clicked on “Preview” for a fast rendering keeping everything else the same: Formula 1 as

Integer Power = 8 and Z multiplier = -1. The following is what was generated.

Left the Formula 1 as it was: Integer Power = 8 and Z multiplier = -1. Then clicked on formula 2

and chose the _MobiusTpx (second 3D column choice) leaving the all default values. Finally

clicked on “Preview” and generated the following:

Changed a-y and a-z from 0 to 1 and generated a preview, as follows.

Played around with the options on the second formula and got this:

It seems to have good potential, so saved it as Painting with Fractals 2nd try 02.m3i.

Opened up the 3D Navi window and played with some adjustments on the upper right corner,

and got this:

Sent view to main, and recalculated at high resolution to get this:

Played around with the calculation variables and the generated this:

Not much difference after the modifications. Now with play around with the lighting options.

Played around with the light options to get the following - a "Masked Black Bloc" design. Still

have to lighten it up some.

Some more adjustments with the coloring option and changing to "volume light nr" in middle

panel, the following image was obtained:
