A reduced entry this week but trade very similar to recent weeks and no shortage of demand for all types. A trio of super Limousin x heifers met premium prices for Messrs. R.H. & C.D. Care of St. Buryan with dearest at 220p/kg to J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station; next making 219p/kg to David Ellis of Lelant. Overall top value heifer was a 650kg Limousin x from Messrs. A.J. & S.T. Richards of St. Keverne – at 216p/kg she realised £1,404 to David Wilton of Peter Morris Butchers, St. Columb. Limousin crosses also standing top on the steer side for Messrs. W.H. & L.M. Williams & Son of Allet with their 638g heaviest knocked down at 213p/kg to David King of Exeter. Big 737kg & 728kg steers forward from Messrs. T.B. & M.B. Osborne of St. Eval saw their Limousin x realising a top value of £1,459 to David King.

Slightly fewer cull cows on offer this week, the entry again containing a large proportion of straight out of parlour dairy types and fewer beef breeds. Heavy, well-fleshed types at a premium but demand for all. A Shorthorn x from Messrs. J.A. & C.R.N. Baker of Newquay topped the beef cows this week selling at 126p/kg to David Ellis of Lelant. Two South Devons next with Mr. R.R. Quinney’s 796kg cow top overall value realising £986 to Dawn West Devon of Hatherleigh. Leading Friesian was a 705kg cow from Messrs. P.J. Grylls & Sons of Kenwyn selling at 125p/kg and £881 to Dawn West Devon. A big 1143kg Aberdeen Angus bull for Messrs. R.G, E.J. & G.A. Williams of St. Martin sold well at 119p/kg and £1,360 to David King.

A similar entry to last week with a good mixture of single-suckled as well as beef x dairy types of all types and ages. Very similar trade to recent weeks set to continue whilst the strong finished trade remains at current levels. Top price of the day at £1,105 was a Shorthorn x steer for Messrs. J.A. & C.R.N. Baker of Newquay. Further Shorthorn x steers for Mr. A.J. Jelbert of Mitchell at 17 months old to £950, with same age Simmental x steers to £955 for Mr. F.J. Moyle of Carnmenellis. Mr. Jelbert’s younger Limousin x steers down to 14 months old hit £925 for five, with his bunch of four same age heifers making £860. A grand entry of four cracking Charolais yearling steers for Messrs. H. Williams & Son of Tehidy realised £895. Five nice named-sire Aberdeen Angus x steers from Mr. G. Another British Blue x heifer at £340 from a run for Sixty Acres Ltd of Zelah, with their Blue bulls also to an equal top of £375 for one just a fortnight old!
