Principal’s
Message
This week is surprisingly quiet in terms of extra-
curricula activities. This is unusual for this
outstanding public school. The Corona virus has
reduced the school fuel bill substantially as most
events are cancelled. It is ironic in the year we
have two new buses allowing cheaper, more
reliable travel, most events are cancelled. The
almighty certainly has a sense of humour, but I am
only laughing internally. I can honestly say we are
having a great run with our Mitsubishi & Toyota
buses, except for a few cob webs on the wheels,
no problems at all.
Last week, Primary ran a Cricket Gala Day,
replacing the inter-school competition that was
cancelled. I thank Primary staff for continuing to
provide experiences for our students and being
innovative in their approach to providing
opportunity during these unusual times.
Anzac Day has been cancelled this year because of
health and safety concerns. However, this school
will continue to educate students on the
contribution and sacrifice of our service personnel.
In our world where our biggest battle is fighting over the last punnet of snags at Woollies, the
suffering of our service people in international
conflict, puts the current crisis in perspective.
The Corona virus has the potential to be the
defining moment of this decade. This is a big call
considering the decade has just began. The virus is
testing the leadership of the nation and the moral
character of our people. It is difficult to fault the
leadership of the Morrison government, especially
when compared to America, but the behaviour of
some Australians can only be described as idiotic
and embarrassing individually and collectively, as a
nation of people.
Australia has survived a depression, two World
Wars, Vietnam, floods, bushfires, chronic drought,
fashion of the disco era and much more. It is hard
to believe the people of Darwin when experiencing
Japanese bombers attacking the city 64 times, were
panic buying toilet paper. They had more reason
too! These events and many more shaped our
spirit and character, or at least what we perceived
as the character of this nation, even more reason
for many people to hang their head in shame.
The current panic buying of groceries is irrational.
Australia is a wealthy country. We enjoy a level of
food security which is the envy of other developed
nations. Yet, we see people buying amounts of
food that cannot possibly be consumed before
spoilt, creating the potential for needless waste.
Also, purchasing excessive amounts of toilet paper to survive a virus that has an incubation period of
fourteen days, and is a respiratory virus rather
than gastro. It is madness! Indeed, this panic
buying is creating and perpetuating the problem
because the supply chain cannot cope. Not the
lack of food and dunny paper in the country.
Another disappointing aspect of some Australian’s
behaviour is the racism that is surfacing in
Australia. Australian people of Asian heritage are
being blamed for creating and spreading this virus.
Again, a myth has become truth because it has
been spoken so many times. Ironically, if you
consider the reaction to the virus from Asian
countries such as China and South Korea, the idea
is more ridiculous. These countries’ outstanding,
coordinated effort has reduced the impact of this
virus around the world, not increased it. Our
school has postponed a visit by James Ruse
students because of the restrictions from the
department but also I was worried some fountain
of knowledge and studier of international health
conditions would make an inappropriate comment
because these Australian students are of Asian
heritage. One comment can tarnish our whole
town as racist.
In Woollies last week, a gentleman purchased four
cartoons of Winy Red and four slabs of VB in case
he was forced to isolate for 14 days. The Corona virus is obviously his biggest health concern!
Welfare agencies are putting in plans to cope with
the expected spike in domestic violence if isolation
occurs. Again, the virus is not the biggest concern
in some families.

The impact on children is my greatest concern.
Children, and it seems panic buyers of toilet paper,
do not have the capacity to distil truth from the
garbage. This school has children with high levels of
anxiety because they are listening to doomsday
predictions of total meltdown. This is only
enhanced by the 24/7 coverage from the media.
Unfortunately, the death of a 90 year old person
from Corona virus receives more coverage in the
media than the thousands of people around the
world that have recovered. There is no doubt we
have to be aware and take precautions and this
death is unfortunate, but the hysteria I see as
another way adults and technology are robbing
childhood.
Trundle Central School is taking the following pre-
cautions to reduce the impact of the virus on the
school population:
• Primary students are supervised every
morning washing hands.
• Students wash hands before fruit and meal
breaks.
• Hand sanitizer is placed in every toilet and
classroom.
• All visitors are screened and wash hands
before entering the school.
• Children are sent home with flu like
symptoms.
• Where possible social distancing is practiced.
Our school is very lucky because we have excellent
cleaners. Our environment is as clean and safe as
we can possibly make it so please do not panic. If a
panic is needed I will organise it! Please read the
joint statement from Mrs Cleal and myself in
relation to the virus in schools.
The department has announced NAPLAN testing
will not be conducted this year. This is to allow
schools to concentrate of providing lessons in
preparation for the possibility that schools may
have to close. This school has excellent data on student performance so our programs will not be
affected in any way by NAPLAN not being
conducted.
We are certainly living in interesting times.
However, the capitalist system always creates
opportunity. For example, the tourist industry is
on the verge of collapse but supermarkets are
booming. Also, in the last two weeks, I have
received numerous emails from companies offering
extra cleaning, virtual lessons and security systems.
In America, the sales of hand guns rose to record
levels last week. I suppose Australians are only
buying toilet paper which is a good thing.
To prove there are other things happening in the
world, our outdoor classroom area was completed
last week. This is a much needed addition to our
school. The priority now is to have our lab
upgraded as it is fast becoming a tribute to the
1970’s. This is not good enough and I will be working to have this upgraded as our students
deserve the best available.
Trundle has a problem with barking dogs. Try to
go for a walk around the streets and listen to the
canine symphony playing the song ‘let me off the
chain to exercise and mentally and emotionally
stimulate me’. Just because we live in a small town
does not mean we need to put up with other
people’s dogs disrupting children’s sleep, affecting
their concentration at school. The Companion
Animals Act 1998 Division 1A Nuisance Dogs
point (b): if the dog makes a noise, by barking or
otherwise, that persistently occurs or continues to such
a degree that it unreasonably interferes with the peace,
comfort or convenience of a person or persons it can
be declared a nuisance dog. The time may have come
where the council steps in and allows the children
of schools to sleep beyond 5:30am. Many people
complain about these dogs and students tell me
they are tired because of dogs barking, but no one
seems to be willing to start the process of getting
something done.
I now realise the girls at High School were
practicing social distancing. A red mullet, skin tight
Levi 501’s cords and desert boots are attractive.
My world is back on track.

Ajax’s
Weekly Woof
Woof Woof Awards: 500 happy woofs to all our students for washing
their hands and taking all the precautions to help
reduce the spread of Corona virus. Dogs do not
get Corona virus so pats are still available free of
charge.
500 happy woofs to our School to Work
students for the new concrete work in the
outdoor classroom. The contractor was very
happy with your work. High praise indeed.
500 happy woofs to the students for their
behaviour during our lockdown practice. Trundle is
a very safe community but we always need to be
ready.
500 happy barks to the students of 5/6 for
looking after me whilst the fence is being built. I
feel you are all my big buddies.
5000 happy woofs to the Trundle people who
have offered to help our older residents to get to
the supermarket. This is true bush spirit. Hopefully
they will have something to buy. Can it be still
called a supermarket if it is half full? Maybe a not so
supermarket.
5 million angry growls to those people who are
getting their status through hording toilet paper
and food. I have a cousin in America who is a bit
different so I can understand Americans but
Australians help each other in hard times. In the
recent bushfires some fire fighters were helping
save other people’s property whilst theirs was
under threat. The fear of a virus that the vast
majority of people survive has created this
behaviour.

Sun Safe Policy This term is a No Hat No Play
term. Students MUST wear a wide
brimmed hat. This means that if
they do not have a hat, they cannot participate in
any outdoor activities including lunch time play. We
keep a small selection of spare hats for those
students who accidently forget their hats. These
hats are washed regularly but are not to be used
every day by the same students. We will endeavour
to call parents to let them know their child has
forgotten their hat so that it can be found. Please
make sure you put your child’s name inside their
hat.
School Sport We will have normal school sport this Friday.
Cricket Gala Day Last Friday students were unable to participate in
our usual cricket gala day in Peak Hill so Mr Burley
organised a day of in-school cricket fun! All the
students in year 2-6 participated in this fabulous
day.
Crunch and Sip Children are encouraged to bring FRESH fruit or
vegetables to school for Crunch and Sip. They are
also able to have a sipper bottle of water in the
classroom.

Secondary
Welcome to Week 9!
This week we have the opportunity to focus on
our academic learning. At present all of our classes
including Stage 6 are progressing as per usual.
If there is any disruption to our school in the near
future we will continue to teach our students via a
mixture of take-home resources and online classes.
Mr Lynn has seen all of Year 7-10 and given them
an introduction to Adobe Connect which will be
the platform that we will be using in conjunction
with Google Classroom to deliver our lessons if it
is needed. I will be posting some videos on the
Trundle Central School Facebook page to assist
parents in navigating to and using these pages if the
need for them arises. Big shout out to Mr Lynn for
the continually exceptional work he does on
supporting our IT at school.
Our Stage 6 students will continue with their on-
line testing for the Minimum Standards of the HSC
in Literacy, Numeracy and Writing. So far their
attitude to these examinations have been
exceptional and they deserve to be congratulated.
As always if there are any questions in regards to
Secondary matters please do not hesitate to
contact myself at school.
Have a great week

School to Work Program students learnt some
essential skills in concreting last week, with a
supervision of Mr Aaron Wright, as they were
working on the extension of the outdoor learning
area for Industrial Arts. It looks fantastic!
We thank Mr Wright for this opportunity.
