TRUECOLORS
ORDINARYTIME2016
The idea for this season was germinating long before the tragedy in Orlando on June 12, when a
gunman killed more people at one time than any other mass killing in America since 9/11. This mass
killing was in a gay club, in America, neither fact an accident. One week later, we open this season
of the Wildernesss as Denver's LGBTQI Pride celebration comes to a close. We dedicate thisseason to the memory of those who died in Orlando and in solidarity with their families and friends.
We gather during these weeks to remember that we are all made by God, for God, in God's colorful
image. These words from Pastor Rick Warren, founder and senior pastor of Saddleback Church in
Lake Forest, California, are important for us all to consider deeply:
We are Gods masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things
he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10 NLT
The reason you have value is because of what God says about you, not because of what other
people say about you.
Many people lack self-esteem. They dont feel good about themselves because theyre always
trying to pump themselves up by the kind of clothes they wear, the kind of car they drive, and the
things they say. Theyre always trying to pump themselves up to make them feel better about
themselves because they really dont accept themselves which is rebellion against God.
If God wanted you to be somebody else, you wouldnt exist. But he wanted you! He made you to be
you. Real self-esteem comes from three facts:
1. God created you.
2. Jesus died for you.
3. Gods Spirit lives in you.
The Bible says, We are Gods masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do
the good things he planned for us long ago (Ephesians 2:10 NLT). The New Testament was writtenoriginally in Greek. The Greek word for masterpiece is poema. Its the word we get poem from.
God says, Youre my poem. Youre my masterpiece. I dont want you copying somebody else. Ive
put gifts in you heart, abilities, personality, and experiences and I want you to use them. You
have worth because of what God says about you . . .

THEPRAYERS OF THEPEOPLE
During this extended time of prayer you are invited to leave your seat and journey to another part
of the Cathedral for silent contemplation.
You may also light a candle near the altar, as a way of offering prayer for specific cares and
concerns for personal prayers, for the needs of the Church, or the world, for those who are
suffering from illness, addiction, or any kind of need, or for those who have died.
At the end of the Prayers, the Presider says
Let us pray together
All say: Lord, make us instruments of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let us sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is discord, union;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
THEPEACE
The Presider says
The Peace of Christ be always with you.
People: And also with you.
Let us share Christs peace with one another.
All greet their neighbors with a sign of peace.
All then sit while Announcements are made.

Presider: Glory and honor are yours,
Creator of all,
you called a people to yourself,
delivered them from bondage,
and led them to a land of promise.
Of your grace, you gave Jesus to be human,
to share our life,proclaim the coming of your holy reign,
and give himself for us.
We thank you that on the night before he died for us
Jesus took bread,
and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it,
gave it to his friends and said:
Take, eat, this is my Body, broken for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
After supper Jesus took the cup of wine,
said the blessing, gave it to his friends and said:
Drink this, all of you:
this cup is the new Covenant in my Blood,
poured out for you and for all
for the forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
And so, remembering all that was done for us:
the cross, the tomb, the resurrection and ascension,
longing for Christs coming in glory,
and presenting to you these gifts
your earth has formed and human hands have made,
we acclaim you, O Christ:
All say: Dying, you destroyed our death.
Rising, you restored our life.
Christ Jesus, come in glory!
Presider: Send your Holy Spirit upon us
and upon these gifts of bread and wine
that they may be to us the Body and Blood of your Christ.
Grant that we,
burning with your Spirits power,may be a people of hope, justice and love.
Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ,
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
we worship you our God and Creator in voices
All say: Amen.
Silence.

Presider: Let us pray as Jesus taught us.
All say: Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your Name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever.
Amen.
THEBREAKING OF THEBREAD
The presider breaks the bread and observes a moment of silence.
INVITATION TOCOMMUNION

Page 9
You with the sad eyes
Don't be discouraged
Oh I realize its hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small
But I see your true colors shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow
Show me a smile then
Don't be unhappy, can't remember
When I last saw you laughingIf this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know I'll be there
And I'll see your true colors shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors. true colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow
If this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
You call me up because you know I'll be
there
And I'll see your true colors shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors, true colors,
true colors, shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow

ABOUT THELITURGY
The liturgy was created for the Wilderness by The Reverend Canon Jadon D. Hartsuff, June 2016.
Hymns are from the Hymnal 1982, arranged for the Wilderness by Ryan McCarthy and Chad Johnson, June 2016, All Rights Reserved.
The opening litany is the Coventry Litany of Reconciliation. Saint John's Cathedral is a member of the Community of the Cross of Nails
at Coventry Cathedral. The Litany, based on the seven cardinal sins, was written by Canon Joseph Poole in 1958 in response to the
bombing of Coventry during World War II. It is a universal and timeless confession of humanity's failings, but it evokes us to approach
these sins and weaknesses in the forgiveness of God's love. Cathedral Provost Richard Howard put the word "FATHER FORGIVE" on the
wall behind the charred cross in the ruins of the destroyed cathedral in 1948.
The classic prayer concluding the Via Sacra is attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi.
The Eucharistic Prayer is The Episcopal Church's Eucharistic Prayer 3 from Enriching Our Worship 1, heavily edited and adapted for this
liturgy by Canon Hartsuff.
The song during Communion is a Wilderness arrangement of True Colors, originally written by Cyndi Lauper for her 1986 album by the
same name.
The Prayer After Communion is by The Right Reverend Frank T. Griswold, after a Nestorian Prayer, as found is his devotional guide
Praying Our Days, Copyright 2009.
The Blessing is inspired by Janey Morley's short prayer, "May the Power of God," in All Desires Known, third edition, Copyright 2006.
