Why are you here today?

• “Insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting a different result.” Albert Einstein

• It is what you learn after you know it all that counts! John Wooden

• "The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them". Einstein

Coach Training Priorities

What is True Colors?

• True Colors provides a nonjudgmental language base to enable one to communicate more freely and appreciate the uniqueness in everyone.

What can TRUE COLORS do for me?

• TRUE COLORS provides an opportunity for you to continue the life long learning process and to learn more about yourself,

• how you go about your education and your leadership role,

• how you relate with your coaches, athletes, family, peers, and even parents!

• and how they relate to you.

Why TRUE COLORS?

• Using the TRUE COLORS is a quicker and easier way to understand people than trying to remember all 16 personality types associated with the Myers-Briggs Personality Test.

Why TRUE COLORS?

• It can help you to better be able to communicate with others, especially with those who are least like you.

History of TRUE COLORS

• Hippocrates – 400 BC – four types: sanguine, phlegmatic, choleric, melancholic

• Carl Jung – 1921 – personality/temperament differences fundamental for understanding human beings (4 types)

• Myers-Briggs – 1950’s – 16 combinations to signify 4 characteristics of people – (letters)

• David Keirsey – 1967 – four types- Please Understand Me

• Don Lowry – 1978 – system/tool to apply “type” information to help real people in real situations

Ever wonder about people?

Ever Wonder about People?

• …Are always on time or even early, while others have a tough time being on time?

• …Speak their mind even before they know what is on it, while others are more reserved and think before they speak?

• …Question every decision that you make and always have a “better way” to do it, while others support your decisions without question?

• …Put the system/department above all, while others put people before the system?

Ever Wonder about People?

• …Swimmer who questions every drill and every workout?

• …Volleyball setter who says, “You take it!” instead of taking charge?

• …Basketball player who dogs it at practice, but is a “gamer”?

• …Hockey player who does everything you teach him, but who has difficulty adjusting to change in a game?

Research: most serious faults in dealing with others?

• Failure to see other’s point of view – 68%

• Failure to show appreciation/give credit – 36%

• Failure to size up others correctly -- 34%

• Lack of Leadership -- 24%

• Lack of frankness/sincerity -- 19%

Perceptions

• "To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others."

Anthony Robbins

Perception Building
