Truck driver dies in pre-dawn U.S. 27crash

PEMBROKE PINES—
The driver of a box truck died early Thursday after his vehicle struck the rear of a tractor-
trailer in a crash on U.S. 27, authorities said.
The crash happened at about 5:18 a.m. on the southbound side of U.S. 27 at Johnson Street,
according to Pembroke Pines police.
A tractor-trailer driven by Marshall Barber, 43, of Winter
Haven, Florida was beginning to move through the
intersection when it was struck from behind by the box
truck that was driven by a 29-year-old man, Pembroke
Pines Police Sgt. Scott Carris said.
The crash severely damaged the cab of the box truck and
sent its cargo of watermelons and debris across the
roadway.
The driver, who police are not identifying pending
notification of his next of kin, was flown to Memorial
Regional Hospital in Hollywood where he was pronounced
dead, Carris said.
Barber was not hurt, police said.
