Troubleshooting Front Suspension Noises Suspension is the system of springs, shock absorbers and linkages that connects a vehicle to its wheels and allows relative motion between the vehicle and wheels. Suspension systems serve a dual purpose contributing to the vehicle’s road holding/handling and braking for safety and driving pleasure, and keeping passengers comfortable and a nice riding quality. A car’s front suspension is a perplexed array of springs, gas -filled shocks and metal arms and joints that keep your vehicle on the road and going in the direction that you want it to. When there is a problem, you will usually get some warning before the suspension completely fails. It is suggested to troubleshoot any noises coming from the front suspension of your car. Instructions: Some noises are obvious, such as a broken stabilizer link. It’s easy to spot broken parts. It might not be so easy to spot worn parts. As for those worn parts that might be making noise, look for the orange dust. Orange dust around a suspension part almost always means that part is bad or on its way out.

Troubleshooting Front Suspension Noises

Suspension is the system of springs, shock absorbers and linkages that connects a vehicle to its wheels and allows relative motion between the vehicle and wheels.

Suspension systems serve a dual purpose — contributing to the vehicle’s road holding/handling and braking for safety and driving pleasure, and keeping passengers comfortable and a nice riding quality.

A car’s front suspension is a perplexed array of springs, gas-filled shocks and metal arms and joints that keep your vehicle on the road and going in the direction that you want it to. When there is a problem, you will usually get some warning before the suspension completely fails. It is suggested to troubleshoot any noises coming from the front suspension of your car.

Instructions:

Some noises are obvious, such as a broken stabilizer link. It’s easy to spot broken parts. It might not be so easy to spot worn parts. As for those worn parts that might be making noise, look for the orange dust. Orange dust around a suspension part almost always means that part is bad or on its way out.

Check for squeaking coming from the front suspension while travelling over bumps in the road. This is commonly, the bushings in the control arms. They will need to be replaced. However, it even indicate that one of the coils is faulty or is about to fail and the spring set needs to be replaced.

Listen for squeaking sound while bouncing when going over unequal surface of the road. This squeaking sound indicates that the shocks are worn out and needs to be replaced.

Check for a metallic clunking sound. This indicates worn ball joints. Ball joints are used to connect suspension components. Worn ball joints are a serious issue and need to be resolved spontaneously. If ball joints fail while driving the car, the vehicle’s suspension could literally come apart leading to a fatal crash.

Mostly suspension noises cause while going over speed bumps. With a good physical and visual inspection, the defects in front suspension can be found.
