Greater Miami Symphonic Band plans 20th year concert May 4 The Greater Miami Symphonic B and celebrates its 20th season with a performance recreating its first concert. The original concert was staged in Peacock Park in Coconut Grove on Mother's Day in 1979. Featured at the concert will be "Jolly Robbers Overture" by Von Suppe, "First Suite for Band" by Holst, "First Suite for Band" by Reed, "Star Wars Medley" by Williams, "Golden Friendships March" by Fillmore, "Miami more audience favorites. As part of a fundraising effort to purchase a new van, Scout Master Bob Swanson and his par- ent volunteers, along with all 20 members of Troop 49 will hold an auction at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 7, during the re-opening of Main Street Live entertainment. "Our purpose is to support the opportunities that are afforded the boys through various programs throughout the year. The van has the capacity to transport all of the scouts to an event. It really takes the place of four or five vehicles," Swanson said. The Boy Scouts are hoping to get local businesses and residents to support the auction either through donations or bidding on the donated items. "We are soliciting businesses in the community to donate items, services and gift certificates to support the said Nirrna Pina, volunteer parent.
