GROUNDINGThisproductmustbegrounded.Ifitshouldmalfunctionorbreakdown,groundingprovidesapathofleastresistanceforelectriccurrenttoreductheriskofelectricalshock.Thissystemisequippedwithacordhavinganequipment-groundingconductorandagroundingplug.Theplugmustbepluggedintoanappropriateoutletthatisproperlyinstalledandgroundedinaccordancewithalllocalcodesandordinances.
DANGERImproperconnectionoftheequipment-groundingconductorcanresultinariskofelectrocution.Checkwithaqualifiedelectricianorservicepersonnelifyouareindoubtastowhethertheoutletisproperlygrounded.Donotmodifytheplugprovidedwiththissystemifitwillnotfittheoutlet,haveaproperoutletinstalledbyaqualifiedelectrician.Donotuseanytypeofadapterwiththissystem.
GROUND FAULT CIRCUIT INTERRUPTER PROTECTIONTocomplywiththeNationalElectricalCode(NFPA70)andtoprovideadditionalprotectionfromtheriskofelectricshock,thissystemshouldonlybeconnectedtoaproperlygrounded,grounding-typepowersupplyreceptaclethatisprotectedbyaGroundFaultCircuitInterrupter(GFCI).InspectoperationofGFCIaspermanufacturerssuggestedmaintenanceschedule.
EXTENSION CORDSIfanextensioncordisnecessary,useonly3-wireextensioncordsthathave3-pronggrounding-typeplugsand3-polecordconnectorsthataccepttheplugfromthissystem.Useonlyextensioncordsthatareintendedforoutdooruse.Useonlyextensioncordshavinganelectricalratingnotlessthantheratingofthesystem.Acordratedforlessamperesorwattsthanthissystemratingmayoverheat.Exercisecautionwhenarrangingthecordsothatitwillnotbetrippedoverorpulled.Donotusedamagedextensioncords.Examineextensioncordbeforeusingandreplaceifdamaged.Donotabuseextensioncord.Keepextensioncordawayfromheatandsharpedges.Alwaysdisconnecttheextensioncordfromthereceptaclebeforedisconnectingthissystemfromtheextensioncord.Neveryankcordtopullplugfromoutlet.Alwaysgrasptheplugandpulltodisconnect.

DISINFECTING THE WATER LINES
UVsystemsdisinfectthewaterusingultravioletlight,treatingthewaterasitpassesthroughthesystem.WhenthereisariskthatwaterdownstreamoftheUVsystemhasbeencontaminateditiscriticalthatthesewaterlinesbechemicallydisinfected.Disinfectionofthewaterlinesisthereforerequiredafterinitialsysteminstallationandfollowinganyextendedperiodoftimeduringwhichthesystemisinoperative,whetherduetoanalarmcondition,apowerfailure,orforanyotherreason.

Insomecases,short-termflowsoflowultraviolettransmittance(UVT)watercanbecreatedfollowingandduringtheregenerationcycleofawatersoftener,resultinginasensoralarm.FlushingtheUVsystemalleviatesthisconditionuntilthesoftenergoesthroughanotherregenerationcycle.Inthelongerterm,thesoftener'ssettingsmustbemodified.ToflushtheUVsystem,firstturnthesolenoidvalvebypassswitch(ifequipped)counter-clockwisetooverridetheshut-off,thenopenatapdownstreamandletwaterrunfortwo(2)minutes.Disinfectthewaterlinesfollowingtheproceduresoutlinedunder"Disinfecting The WaterLines"intheInstallationsection.
ProandPlusSeriesareequippedwithaunique,patentedsensorthatiscapableofself-diagnosis.Simplypressthebuttonlocatedatthetopofthesensorandholduntiltheaudiblealarmstops(usuallyabout5seconds).Iftheaudiblealarmisstillpresentafter30seconds,releasethebuttonandreplacethesensor.

Sleeve cleaningMineralsinthewaterslowlyformacoatingonthesleeve.ThiscoatingmustberemovedbecauseitreducestheamountofUVlightreachingthewater,therebyreducingdisinfectionperformance.TheneedtocleanthesleevewillbeindicatedbyalowUValarm(flashingredindicatorlightbesidethesensoroncontrolpanel-see Control
Panelsectionfordetails).Note:LowUValarmsareforPro&PlusSeriesonly.IfyouownaBasicmodel,pleasecleanthesleeveregulary(agoodruleofthumbis3-4timesperyear).
Whencleaningisrequired,followtheinstructionsbelowandre-installthecurrentlamp.
Lamp replacementTheamountofUVlightcreatedbythelampdecreasesovertime,requiringthatthelampbereplaced.Thesystemwillautomaticallynotifyyouwhenitistimetoreplacethelamp(thelampshouldlastapproximately24months).Ifthelamprequiresreplacement,followtheinstructionsbelowandinstallanewlamp.NOTE:TheUVsystemisdesignedtooperatecontinuouslyandshouldnotbeshutoffforshortperiodsoftime,suchasoveraperiodoflessthanthreeweeks.

ThisClassAsystemconformstoNSFStandard55forthedisinfectionofmicrobiologicallycontaminatedwaterthatmeetsallotherpublichealthstandards.Thesystemisnotintendedfortreatmentofwaterthathasanobviouscontaminationsource,suchasrawsewage;noristhesystemintendedtoconvertwastewatertomicrobiologicallysafedrinkingwater.Thesystemisintendedtobeinstalledonvisuallyclearwater(notcolored,cloudy,orturbidwater).IfthissystemisusedforthetreatmentofsurfacewatersaprefilterfoundtobeincomplianceforcystreductionunderNSF/ANSIStandard53:DrinkingWaterTreatmentUnits-HealthEffectsshallbeinstalledupstreamofthesystem.
