GROUNDINGThisproductmustbegrounded.Ifitshouldmalfunctionorbreakdown,groundingprovidesapathofleastresistanceforelectriccurrenttoreductheriskofelectricalshock.Thissystemisequippedwithacordhavinganequipment-groundingconductorandagroundingplug.Theplugmustbepluggedintoanappropriateoutletthatisproperlyinstalledandgroundedinaccordancewithalllocalcodesandordinances.

DANGERImproperconnectionoftheequipment-groundingconductorcanresultinariskofelectrocution.Checkwithaqualifiedelectricianorservicepersonnelifyouareindoubtastowhethertheoutletisproperlygrounded.Donotmodifytheplugprovidedwiththissystemifitwillnotfittheoutlet,haveaproperoutletinstalledbyaqualifiedelectrician.Donotuseanytypeofadapterwiththissystem.

GROUND FAULT CIRCUIT INTERRUPTER PROTECTIONTocomplywiththeNationalElectricalCode(NFPA70)andtoprovideadditionalprotectionfromtheriskofelectricshock,thissystemshouldonlybeconnectedtoaproperlygrounded,grounding-typepowersupplyreceptaclethatisprotectedbyaGroundFaultCircuitInterrupter(GFCI).InspectoperationofGFCIaspermanufacturerssuggestedmaintenanceschedule.

EXTENSION CORDSIfanextensioncordisnecessary,useonly3-wireextensioncordsthathave3-pronggrounding-typeplugsand3-polecordconnectorsthataccepttheplugfromthissystem.Useonlyextensioncordsthatareintendedforoutdooruse.Useonlyextensioncordshavinganelectricalratingnotlessthantheratingofthesystem.Acordratedforlessamperesorwattsthanthissystemratingmayoverheat.Exercisecautionwhenarrangingthecordsothatitwillnotbetrippedoverorpulled.Donotusedamagedextensioncords.Examineextensioncordbeforeusingandreplaceifdamaged.Donotabuseextensioncord.Keepextensioncordawayfromheatandsharpedges.Alwaysdisconnecttheextensioncordfromthereceptaclebeforedisconnectingthissystemfromtheextensioncord.Neveryankcordtopullplugfromoutlet.Alwaysgrasptheplugandpulltodisconnect.

DISINFECTING THE WATER LINES

UVsystemsdisinfectthewaterusingultravioletlight,treatingthewaterasitpassesthroughthesystem.WhenthereisariskthatwaterdownstreamoftheUVsystemhasbeencontaminateditiscriticalthatthesewaterlinesbechemicallydisinfected.Disinfectionofthewaterlinesisthereforerequiredafterinitialsysteminstallationandfollowinganyextendedperiodoftimeduringwhichthesystemisinoperative,whetherduetoanalarmcondition,apowerfailure,orforanyotherreason.

Insomecases,short-termflowsoflowultraviolettransmittance(UVT)watercanbecreatedfollowingandduringtheregenerationcycleofawatersoftener,resultinginasensoralarm.FlushingtheUVsystemalleviatesthisconditionuntilthesoftenergoesthroughanotherregenerationcycle.Inthelongerterm,thesoftener'ssettingsmustbemodified.ToflushtheUVsystem,firstturnthesolenoidvalvebypassswitch(ifequipped)counter-clockwisetooverridetheshut-off,thenopenatapdownstreamandletwaterrunfortwo(2)minutes.Disinfectthewaterlinesfollowingtheproceduresoutlinedunder"Disinfecting The WaterLines"intheInstallationsection.

ProandPlusSeriesareequippedwithaunique,patentedsensorthatiscapableofself-diagnosis.Simplypressthebuttonlocatedatthetopofthesensorandholduntiltheaudiblealarmstops(usuallyabout5seconds).Iftheaudiblealarmisstillpresentafter30seconds,releasethebuttonandreplacethesensor.

Sleeve cleaningMineralsinthewaterslowlyformacoatingonthesleeve.ThiscoatingmustberemovedbecauseitreducestheamountofUVlightreachingthewater,therebyreducingdisinfectionperformance.TheneedtocleanthesleevewillbeindicatedbyalowUValarm(flashingredindicatorlightbesidethesensoroncontrolpanel-see Control

Panelsectionfordetails).Note:LowUValarmsareforPro&PlusSeriesonly.IfyouownaBasicmodel,pleasecleanthesleeveregulary(agoodruleofthumbis3-4timesperyear).

Whencleaningisrequired,followtheinstructionsbelowandre-installthecurrentlamp.

Lamp replacementTheamountofUVlightcreatedbythelampdecreasesovertime,requiringthatthelampbereplaced.Thesystemwillautomaticallynotifyyouwhenitistimetoreplacethelamp(thelampshouldlastapproximately24months).Ifthelamprequiresreplacement,followtheinstructionsbelowandinstallanewlamp.NOTE:TheUVsystemisdesignedtooperatecontinuouslyandshouldnotbeshutoffforshortperiodsoftime,suchasoveraperiodoflessthanthreeweeks.

Toestablishproofofpurchasetomakeawarrantyclaim,youwillneedtoeitherretainyouroriginalinvoiceorcompleteandreturnawarrantycard,whichwillregisteryouasaproductownerinTrojansdatabase.

Ten-Year Limited Warranty for TrojanUVMax Reaction ChamberTrojanwarrantsthereactionchamberontheTrojanUVMaxproducttobefreefromdefectsinmaterialandworkmanshipforaperiodoften(10)yearsfromthedateofpurchase.Duringthistime,Trojanwillrepairorreplace,atitsoption,anydefectiveTrojanUVMaxreactionchamber.

PleasereturnthedefectiveparttoaTrojandealer,whowillreturnittoTrojan.Trojanwilleithermakethenecessaryrepairsor,ifTrojandeterminesthatareplacementisrequired,willprovideareplacementpart.Trojanwillthenreturntheparttothedealer.Thiswarrantydoesnotincludeshippingandhandlingchargeswhichwillbecollectedfromyoubythedealer.

Partsrepairedorreplacedunderthisten(10)yearwarrantywillbecoveredunderwarrantytotheendoftheoriginalten(10)yearwarrantyperiod.Thiswarrantyis

Five-Year Limited Warranty for Structural, Hardware and Electrical ComponentsTrojanwarrantsthestructural,hardware,andelectricalcomponentstobefreefromdefectsinmaterialandworkmanshipforaperiodoffive(5)yearsfromthe dateofpurchase.Duringthistime,Trojanwillrepairorreplace,atitsoption,anydefectivepartscoveredbythewarranty.

PleasereturnthedefectiveparttoaTrojandealer,whowillreturnittoTrojan.Trojanwilleithermakethenecessaryrepairsor,ifTrojandeterminesthatareplacementisrequired,willprovideareplacementpart.Trojanwillthenreturntheparttothedealer.Thiswarrantydoesnotincludeshippingandhandlingchargeswhichwillbecollectedfromyoubythedealer.

Partsrepairedorreplacedunderthisfive(5)yearwarrantywillbecoveredunderwarrantytotheendoftheoriginalfive(5)yearwarrantyperiod.Thiswarrantyisalsosubjecttotheconditionsandlimitationsoutlinedundertheheading"GeneralConditionsandLimitations"below.

One-Year Limited Warranty for Lamps, Sleeves and UV SensorsTrojanwarrantsoriginallamps,sleevesandUVsensorstobefreefromdefectsinmaterialandworkmanshipforaperiodofone(1)yearfromthedateofpurchase.Duringthistime,Trojanwillrepairorreplace,atitsoption,anydefectivepartscoveredbythewarranty.

ThewarrantyperiodforlampsandsleevesmaybeverifiedusingdatecodesinadditiontopurchasereceiptsandTrojan'sdatabaseofregisteredowners.TrojanwilladviseyouwhetherthedefectiveitemneedstobereturnedtoaTrojandealerforfailureanalysis.ReplacementlampsandsleevesprovidedunderwarrantywillbesenttoyourTrojandealer.

IftheUVsensorexperiencesaproblemwhichTrojanconfirmsiscoveredbywarranty,pleasereturnthesensortoaTrojandealerwhowillreturnittoTrojan.Trojanwilleitherrepairorreplacethesensorandreturnthesensortoyourdealer.

Thiswarrantyonlamps,sleevesandsensorsdoesnotincludeshippingandhandlingchargeswhichwillbecollectedfromyoubythedealer.Partsreplacedunderthisone(1)yearwarrantywillbecoveredunderwarrantytotheendoftheoriginalone(1)yearwarrantyperiod.Thiswarrantyisalsosubjecttotheconditionsandlimitationsoutlinedundertheheading"GeneralConditionsandLimitations"below.

Warranty for Replacement Lamps and PartsTrojanwarrantsreplacementlamps,purchasedforbi-annualroutinemaintenance,andotherpartspurchasedtorepairproductcomponentsthatarenolongercoveredbytheoriginalwarranty,tobefreefromdefectsinmaterialandworkmanshipforaperiodofthree(3)monthsfromthedateofpurchase.Duringthistime,Trojanwillrepairorreplace,atitsoption,adefectivereplacementlamporpartfreeofchargeexceptforshippingandhandlingcharges.

Thewarrantyperiodonreplacementlampsandpartswillbeverifiedusingdatecodesand/orpurchasereceipts.TrojanwilladviseyouwhetherthedefectiveitemneedstobereturnedtoaTrojandealerforfailureanalysis.ReplacementlampsandpartsprovidedunderwarrantywillbesenttoyourTrojandealer.

General Conditions and LimitationsNoneoftheabovewarrantiescoverdamagecausedbyimproperuseormaintenance,accidents,actsofGodorminorscratchesorimperfectionsthatdonotmateriallyimpairtheoperationoftheproduct.ThewarrantiesalsodonotcoverproductsthatarenotinstalledasoutlinedintheapplicableOwner'sManual.

ThelimitedwarrantiesdescribedabovearetheonlywarrantiesapplicabletotheTrojanproductslistedinthe"SpecificWarrantyCoverage"section.Theselimitedwarrantiesoutlinetheexclusiveremedyforallclaimsbasedonafailureofordefectinanyoftheseproducts,whethertheclaimisbasedoncontract,tort(includingnegligence),strictliabilityorotherwise.Thesewarrantiesareinlieuofallotherwarrantieswhetherwritten,oral,impliedorstatutory.Withoutlimitation,nowarrantyofmerchantabilityoroffitnessforaparticularpurposeshallapplytoanyoftheseproducts.

Trojandoesnotassumeanyliabilityforpersonalinjuryorpropertydamagecausedbytheuseormisuseofanyoftheaboveproducts.Trojanshallnotinanyeventbeliableforspecial,incidental,indirectorconsequentialdamages.Trojan'sliabilityshall,inallinstances,belimitedtorepairorreplacementofthedefectiveproductorpartandthisliabilitywillterminateuponexpirationoftheapplicablewarrantyperiod.

ThisClassAsystemconformstoNSFStandard55forthedisinfectionofmicrobiologicallycontaminatedwaterthatmeetsallotherpublichealthstandards.Thesystemisnotintendedfortreatmentofwaterthathasanobviouscontaminationsource,suchasrawsewage;noristhesystemintendedtoconvertwastewatertomicrobiologicallysafedrinkingwater.Thesystemisintendedtobeinstalledonvisuallyclearwater(notcolored,cloudy,orturbidwater).IfthissystemisusedforthetreatmentofsurfacewatersaprefilterfoundtobeincomplianceforcystreductionunderNSF/ANSIStandard53:DrinkingWaterTreatmentUnits-HealthEffectsshallbeinstalledupstreamofthesystem.

NSFStandard55defineswastewatertoincludehumanand/oranimalbodywaste,toiletpaper,andanyothermaterialintendedtobedepositedinareceptacledesignedtoreceiveurineand/orfeces(blackwaste);andotherwastematerialsdepositedinplumbingfixtures(graywaste).
