ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

ANGELA LINDSEY TATE, ‘16 Congratulations to Angela Lindsey Tate, SHS Class of 2016, for receiving the Virginia Wilson Cook Award for Excellence in English Education. Angela is a 2020 graduate of UL-Lafayette in English Education with a 3.9 GPA.

OLIVIA ANN LAHAYE, ‘14 Olivia Ann LaHaye, SHS Class of 2014, recently graduated UL– Lafayette as the Overall Outstanding Master’s Graduate for the Spring 2020 semester. Olivia also represented the UL Department of Civil Engineering as its Outstanding Master’s Graduate. She also maintained a 4.0 GPA while pursuing her master’s degree in civil engineering. After completing her Bachelor’s Degree in 2018, Olivia decided to pursue a masters degree to develop her interest and expertise in finding sustainable solutions to protect our environment. Olivia’s research has centered on Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR), a sustainable water management solution. In this process, excess surface water is captured,

treated and injected into an underground body of permeable rock, sand, or gravel, known as an aquifer. Olivia mentioned that “Our underground aquifers are being over drafted due to our thriving rice and crawfish farming practices, where groundwater is heavily relied upon.” “Over drafting of a coastal aquifer can contribute to subsidence and saltwater intrusion which leads to coastal erosion and increased flooding.” During Olivia’s work she has yielded two research papers for journal publications. With the support of Olivia’s research project, she has traveled to present her research at two prestigious American Geophysical Union (AGU) conferences in Valencia, Spain and San Francisco, California. Following graduation, Olivia will continue working in water sustainability and coastal protection as she will join the state Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) as a leading design engineer in Baton Rouge, LA. Olivia is the daughter of Jay (‘86) and Dessa LaHaye.

KAILEY ALEXIS SOILEAU, ‘11 Kailey Alexis Soileau, SHS Class of 2011, graduated in Optometry on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. She is the daughter of Mitch (‘82) and Dr. Angela Sylvester Soileau. Dr. Kailey Soileau earned her Professional Doctorate at The Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Soileau was also awarded the SECO Past President’s Endowed Award because of her position as the SCO class of 2020’s Student Government Association President. 2019-2020 Sacred Heart Elementary Kindergarten – 7th Grade Award Recipients

Sacred Heart School is proud to show you a glimpse of our social distancing and at home learning time. We are

very proud of our faculty and students. Some of our students worked on packets at home to submit to their

teachers while others were assigned projects, class work, tests online on Google Classroom. Sacred Heart appreciation was placed around the parish and in

surrounding parishes from yard signs for 8th grade students to faculty and principals. A Senior appreciation

drive by parade also took place under the pavilion. A drop off day also took place where students received

awards, certificates and returned their school Chrome Books and packets.

8TH GRADE PROMOTION

Congratulations to our 8th Grade Class on being promoted to high school. Promotion this year was held in the high school gym with 6 feet apart. Pictured below is our 8th graders at

their at home end of the year party.

THANK YOU TO FATHER BLAKE DUBROC

Sacred Heart School and Church are truly thankful to Father Blake Dubroc for his 2 years here with us all in Ville Platte. In his two short

years here, he has made such a huge impact on our community and Trojan family. We thank him from the

bottom of our hearts for everything, especially his love for our students. Father Dubroc will be missed and we will look forward to you visiting our community and school. Fr. Blake Dubroc will be the parochial vicar at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge beginning July 6,2020. This is in addition to his duties as Director of

Vocations for the Diocese of Lafayette.

Our prayers are with you as you begin your ministry in this new assignment.
