    ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

    THE COUNTY OF WILTSHIRE (STONEHENGE WORLD HERITAGE SITE,PARISHES OF AMESBURY, BERWICK ST JAMES, DURRINGTON, WILSFORD

    CUM LAKE, WINTERBOURNE STOKE AND WOODFORD)(PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) ORDER 2010

    The Council of the County of Wiltshire in exercise of its powers under Sections 1, 2and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (hereinafterreferred to as the Act) as amended and of all other enabling powers and afterconsultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9to the Act hereby makes the following Order: -

    1. The following Orders are hereby revoked:

    The County of Wilts (Airmans Cross, Winterbourne Stoke) (One-Way) Order1965

    The County of Wiltshire (A344, Amesbury) (Prohibition of Right-Hand Turn) Order1992

    The County of Wiltshire (A344, Amesbury) (One-Way Traffic) Order 1992

    The County of Wiltshire (A344, Amesbury) (40MPH Speed Limit) Order 1993

    2. Save as provided in Articles 3, 4, 5 and 6 of this Order, no person shall, exceptupon the direction or with the permission of a Police Constable in uniform or of a

    Traffic Warden use, or cause or permit to be used, any motor vehicle in such away that it proceeds along the lengths of road and byways open to all trafficspecified in the Schedules to this Order.

    3. Nothing in Article 2 of this Order shall apply so as to prevent any person fromusing or causing or permitting any motor vehicle to proceed on the lengths ofroad and byways open to all traffic referred to in the Schedules if the vehicle isbeing used:

    (i) in the service of the Local Authority in pursuance of statutory powers orduties or in the services of the Police Authority, the Fire and RescueAuthority, or Ambulance Service;

    (ii) in connection with any building operation, or demolition in or adjacent tothe road, the removal of any obstruction to traffic in the road, themaintenance, improvement or reconstruction of the road, or the laying,erection, alteration or repair in or adjacent to the road of any sewer or ofany main, pipe or apparatus for the supply of gas, water or electricity or ofany telecommunications apparatus as defined in Schedule 2 of theTelecommunications Act 1984;

    (iii) In connection with the maintenance of land or for associated agriculturalpurposes.

    4. Nothing in Article 2 of this Order shall apply so as to prevent any person fromusing or causing or permitting any motor vehicle to proceed on the length of roadspecified in Schedule 1 of this Order if the vehicle is being used to access theStonehenge World Heritage Site Visitors Centre Car Park during variable hours,managed by English Heritage or their agents on behalf of Wiltshire Council underthe Terms and Conditions of the Management Scheme agreed between theHighway Authority and English Heritage.

    5. Nothing in Article 2 of this Order shall make it unlawful for any invalid carriage (asdefined in Section 136 of the Act) to proceed on the lengths of road or bywaysopen to all traffic specified in the Schedules to this Order.

    6. Nothing in Article 2 of this Order shall make it unlawful for any motor vehicle toproceed on the lengths of road or byways open to all traffic specified in theSchedules to this Order if the vehicle displays on its windscreen a valid permitissued by English Heritage on behalf of Wiltshire Council.

    7. For the purpose of this Order a valid permit is a permit issued by EnglishHeritage or their agents on behalf of Wiltshire Council under the Terms andConditions of the Management Scheme agreed between the Highway Authorityand English Heritage.

    8. This Order shall come into operation on xxxxxxx 2010 and may be cited as TheCounty of Wiltshire (Stonehenge World Heritage Site, Parishes of Amesbury,Berwick St James, Durrington, Wilsford cum Lake, Winterbourne Stoke andWoodford) (Prohibition of Driving) Order 2010.

    SCHEDULE 1

    Length of Road in the Parish of Winterbourne Stoke subject to Prohibition ofMotor Vehicles at all times except for access to the Stonehenge World

    Heritage Site Visitors Centre Car Park during variable hours

    Road Description

    A344 from the Airmans Corner junction eastwards for adistance of approximately 130 metres

    Berwick St James BOAT 11 Its entire length from its junction with WoodfordBOAT 16 at the Woodford Parish boundary to theWilsford cum Lake Parish boundary.Approximate length 1009 metres.

    Durrington BOAT 10 From the Amesbury Parish boundary to a pointsouth of the access road to Durrington DownFarm, approximately 230 metres south of thejunction with Fargo Road.Approximate length 328 metres.

    Wilsford cum Lake BOAT 1 Its entire length from the Berwick St James

    Parish boundary to the Amesbury Parishboundary.Approximate length 1615 metres.

    Wilsford cum Lake BOAT 2 Its entire length from Hill Plantation to theAmesbury Parish boundary.Approximate length 3080 metres.

    Woodford BOAT 16 Its entire length from its junction with the A360 toits junction with Berwick St James BOAT 11 atthe Woodford Parish boundary.Approximate length 122 metres
