...new conflict...Recently I have heard and read in the news that folks are saying

things like “Afghanistan is no Vietnam,” or “It’s another Vietnam,” when speaking of our current deployment of troops to Afghanistan. I don’t disagree that Vietnam was different from this new conflict.

People can make comparisons between Vietnam and other conflicts if they please. But, please stop casting the Vietnam War in a negative context. Time and again I hear and read this and it’s a put down of the American combat soldiers who fought and died in Vietnam. As a Vietnam Era Vet, I resent these offhanded statements about a war that most of us, who were drafted, had no say. We could have run away to Canada, but we served. It’s time for the critics and doubters to put up or shut up. Maybe some of these Vietnam era critics can sign up for this war in Afghanistan since they seem to like it better than Vietnam. There’s no draft so they’ll have to enlist like I did in 1968 in the USAF after being drafted while in college.

Maybe they’ll discover that war is war no matter where it’s fought and serving one’s country honorably, like we Vietnam vets did, is all that counts.

Mount Anthony Teams Open Strong— by Patrick Morrissey

WrestlingThe Mount Anthony wrestling team opened their season with a bang

with a 61-6 win over Shaker High of upstate New York. The Patriots’ first loss came in the first match of the night when Chris Schramm took the mat in the 103-pound weight class.

Following the loss, the next four Patriots, Smith Stratton (108 pounds), Mike Bradley (112), Zak Hale (125), and Tyler White (130) won by pin. The next two matches were won by decision for MAU, with Ben Price at 135 pounds and Jimmy Zupko at 140. Zach Weinfurt kept the ball rolling winning by technical fall. At 152 pounds, Patriot fresh-man Will Mabee lost a close 7-6 decision.

The following match, Jason Welch (160) turned the Patriots back on track by earning a 12-2 decision, followed by two pins from Spencer Foucher (179) and Brad Sawyer (189). Finally the night was capped off with another pin for Sam Webster (285).

BasketballThe Mount Anthony Boys’ Basketball team rolled to a big victory on

Tuesday night, beating the Windsor Yellow Jackets 79-21. The Patriots’ defense was a bit overwhelming, as MAU caused turnover after turn-over and turned them into a 13-0 lead in the opening minutes. The first points for Windsor came from a free-throw with just under five minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Patriots’ kept the pressure on and never looked back. The Patriots’ quickly worked their entire roster into the game.

As the seniors got to take a back seat, MAU juniors Clayton Palmer (17 points), Kevin Hendry (11), and Charles McVay (10) led the way for the Patriots. The easy win for the Patriots’ hopefully gave them a chance to shake off cobwebs and prepare themselves for the upcoming games, as they travel to Mount Greylock.

Christmas and Late Advent Services Posted for St. Peter’s Episcopal Church

Christmas Services will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 200 Pleasant Street, Bennington, Vermont, beginning with Christmas Eve, December 24, at 5 p.m. with the Holy Eucharist (Rite 2) with the Children and Youth Choir leading the musical offerings.

The traditional Christmas Eve Midnight Mass will begin at 10:30 p.m. with carols for choir and congregation followed by the Holy Eucharist (Rite 2). On Christmas Day, December 25, the Holy Eucharist (Rite 1) will be celebrated at 9 a.m. with organ and congregational carols. The Rev. Dr. Anita Schell-Lambert, Rector, will be celebrant at all Christmas services. The Rev. Penny Hawkins, Deacon, will assist. Music is under the direction of St. Peter’s Organist/Choirmaster Randall Krum.

The annual Christmas Pageant will take place on Sunday, December 20 (Advent 4) at 10 a.m., in the church. The Holy Eucharist will be cel-ebrated at 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on December 20.

On December 13, Advent 3, the Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at 8 a.m. (Rite 1), 10 a.m. (Rite 2), and 5 p.m. (Contemporary). The Feast of Lights (Epiphany) Pageant will take place on January 10, 2010.

From my Corner — by Susan J. Coons ...not politics as usual...Over the years Rensselaer County has earned the

reputation for sleazy politics. Some of the towns have down and dirty races but not all of them. With a few exceptions, the Town of Hoosick has remained above that kind of politics.

Up until now the Town of Hoosick has been in the hands of leaders who know how to write grants, read the laws, promote the town in positive ways, protect the environment and rural esthetics; they’ve been engaged in commu-nity events and planning, and much more.

I’m an election inspector. I work the poll in North Hoosick, New York. There are two Democrats and two Republicans on our watch. The four of us are friends and enjoy ourselves during the long hours on election day. We’re polite to everyone who comes in to vote no matter their party affiliation.

I’m sad to say that for the first time in my life, I witnessed a sleazy election last November. Blatant arrogance on the part of a party or candidate is not acceptable. Trying to create a conflict where there is

none is not acceptable. Those of us who are civil, read major newspapers and keep ourselves informed on local and world news, those of us who respect fellow citizens and their right to speak are opposed to an “in your face” confrontational attitude.

I will hold the hope that Hoosick Town Supervisor Elect Keith Cipperly will encourage his newly elect-ed town officials who will sit on his board to gain knowledge, temperance, and diplomacy and drop their smug, arrogant attitude if they have not already done so. I would also advise them not to become the puppets of experienced politicians who may have a

vested interest in future legislation. Read for yourselves. Comprehend. Look at yourselves in the mirror. Be sure the image looking back at you is someone your constituents can respect. Don’t allow yourself to use offensive language. Remember, you are there for every citizen in the Town of Hoosick, not just those who voted for you.

That’s the way America works. Read the Constitution, The Bill of Rights, State Charter, Town Charter, laws and regulations. Learn for yourselves.

And, remember, “It’s better to remain silent and thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.”

Calling All Bowlers!Get your friends, family and coworkers together for a day of bowling

and fun for a great cause! The Sixth Annual Hoosick Bowl for Kids is set for Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Barbecue Recreation on Route 22 in Hoosick Falls. Proceeds benefit the Hoosick Youth & Community Center and the Hoosick Area Partnership for Parents & Youth (HAPPY) and its MentorWorks program.

Register A Team There will be three waves of bowlers at this year’s event. The first

wave begins at 12 noon, the second at 1:30 p.m., and the third at 3 p.m. Each wave is limited to ten teams of five bowlers. Team Captains are encouraged to register early to get their first choice of wave time by call-ing at 518-686-9050 or by stopping by the Youth Center any weekday afternoon after 3 p.m.

Prizes For Fundraising A minimum of $200 per team (or an average of $40 per bowler)

is required to participate. This year we will be awarding prizes for top fundraisers. The team with the highest average of pledges per bowler will win $50 in Stewart’s gift cards. The individual bowler who brings in the most pledges will win a $25 gift card.

Teams are encouraged to begin seeking pledges as soon as possible. Captain Sheets and Pledge Forms are available online at www.hoosic-kyouth.org or at the Youth Center. Captain’s packets can also be mailed upon request. Call 518-685-9050 for more information.

Free Sketch Pads and Free Admission Make the Clark

the Place to Explore This WinterExcelsior Printing Company has generously donated a number of

sketch pads to the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute. The Clark encourages visitors to pick up a free sketch pad upon arrival and head into the galleries to draw, taking inspiration from the Clark's extraordi-nary collection. Choose from French Impressionist paintings by Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir; American paintings by Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, Frederic Remington, and Mary Cassatt; Italian and Northern Renaissance mas-terpieces; and portraits and landscapes by European masters. Be sure to check out the recently acquired major nineteenth-century landscape painting by Pierre Étienne Théodore Rousseau.

Ask for a drawing pad at the information desk. Bring a pencil or bor-row one from the information desk. In addition, admission to the gal-leries is free through May. The Clark will be closed on Friday, December 25, for Christmas, and Friday, January 1, for New Year's Day.

Winter Solstice Hike and Campfire at Bartholomew’s Cobble

New this year at Bartholomew’s Cobble nature preserve, there will be a guided sunset hike to welcome the longest night of the year, on Saturday, December 19, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Join the Trustees of Reservations for the adventure of climbing Hurlburt’s Hill, watching the sun go down, and greeting Big Bear rising, along with the other early evening stars. After this 1.5 mile hike, everyone is welcome to linger around a campfire outdoors at the Visitor Center to share popcorn and hot cider. A masked dancer will perform a poem accompanied by drumming to portray the re-awakening of the light during the time of greatest darkness.

Pre-registration for the hike is recommended by calling 413-229-8600. If needed, snowshoes will be available in adult and child sizes. The program is free with Bartholomew’s Cobble admission of $5 per adult and $1 per child. Admission for Trustees of Reservations members and Sheffield residents is free.

Bartholomew’s Cobble is a 329 acre property of the Trustees of Reservations with five miles of trails. The Cobble is located on Weatogue Road in the Ashley Falls area of Sheffield. Trails are open year-round daily, sunrise to sunset. The Visitor Center is open 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday during winter months.

Directions: From Route 7 in the center of Sheffield, travel south. Turn right on Route 7A and follow for 0.5 mile. Turn right on Rannapo Road and follow for 1.5 miles. Turn right on Weatogue Road to the entrance and parking on the left.

‘Messiah Sing-Along’ in ArlingtonSt. James Episcopal Church will host the seventh annual “Messiah

Sing-Along” on Sunday, December 27, at 3:00 p.m. under the direc-tion of Stephen Spinelli. Singers of all levels and abilities are invited to participate in the informal sing-along which will include the Advent and Christmas section of Handel’s choral masterpiece, as well as the Hallelujah Chorus. There will be several soloists including Katie Beck, Patti Cody, Kerri Ryer-Parke, Mark Madison, and Rev. Scott Neal. The chorus/audience will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra com-prised of very talented local musicians.

Even if you don’t know the whole piece but want to sing or hum during your favorite part, we’d love to have you. Just show up and bring your voice, enthusiasm and holiday spirit!

A limited number of copies of the score will be available to singers, and those who have their own copy are encouraged to bring it. Light refreshments will be served in the parish hall following the event. There is no charge for the event, but free will donations will be excepted.

Second Time Around Celebrates Ten Years in the CommuntyThis month marks the tenth anniversary of Second Time Around, a

used-clothing-and-more shop on River Street in Bennington.“I feel it’s an accomplishment to be in business this long, especially for

a woman,” says Bacon. “It’s not always easy.” She says the secret to her success is a lot of hard work, long hours and quality merchandise. “I’m very picky about what I accept to sell. I emphasize name brands, current styles, and everything must be in perfect condition.”

In December of 1999 Bacon opened the shop with her friend Pam Raymond, but bought her out in 2005. They both shared a passion for clothing and the deals to be found with second-hand shopping. The store merchandise has grown to include household items, jewelry and other accessories, books – “a little bit of everything,” Bacon says. “That’s what I like the most to hear my customers say – ‘there’s so much to look at!’ ”

Bacon will typically run weekly sales, with bigger sales during com-munity celebrations like Mayfest and Midnight Madness. She is espe-cially proud of her affiliation with Project Against Violent Encounters (PAVE). When she is able, she will take donations of items to sell and gives the full price to PAVE. “I don’t make a profit off of any donations,” she says. “I give it all to PAVE.” And anything that ultimately doesn’t sell she will donate to other local organizations.

She has lots of regular customers, from those on limited budgets who need to stretch their dollars, to others like herself who simply enjoy the thrill of finding a good bargain.

The store is located at 227 River Street, across from Scot Mazda. Business hours are Tuesday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

Give the Gift of Time This Year!As the holidays approach, consider giving the gift of your time this

year! Make a difference in a child’s life by donating an hour each week during 2010 to be a mentor for the MentorWorks program in Hoosick Falls. Expand the impact of your gift by getting friends and family involved and making the commitment to volunteer together.

MentorWorks, a program to help youth in the Hoosick Falls commu-nity develop their talents and skills through one-on-one partnerships with adults, is entering its second year of operation. Currently there are 33 mentoring matches meeting on a regular basis at the Hoosick Youth and Community Center. Several other children and young teens are waiting to be paired with a caring adult or older high school student. With the help and support of the community, we hope to have at least 40 matches in place by the end of 2010.

Mentors provide friendship and encouragement to young people from all types of homes and all social and economic levels. They help youth develop their strengths and talents and reinforce the positive efforts made by other significant adults in their lives, such as teachers and family members. By supporting them during times of personal or social stress, and providing guidance for decision-making, mentors help children and youth become responsible men and women.

People from all walks of life can be mentors. Men, women, senior cit-izens, young adults, businesspeople, stay-at-home parents, grandparents – all are welcome to apply. Juniors and Seniors at Hoosick Falls Central School are also invited to be mentors. No special skills are needed; just an interest in supporting a child or teen in a safe, supervised setting and a willingness to give at least an hour a week of your time throughout the year.

Mentees are young people in fourth through eighth grade at Hoosick Falls Central or St. Mary’s Academy. Matches will be made based on common interests, schedules, and compatibility. Both the mentor and mentee (along with his or her parent or guardian) must approve of the match.

Mentoring activities can include homework help, enrichment proj-ects, games, or simple conversations on common interests. The weekly meetings generally last about an hour and program staff is onsite to to provide supplies, suggestions and assistance. Materials on mentor-ing and training opportunities are also available to help the mentor-ing matches become successful. In addition to the weekly meetings, MentorWorks hosts fun monthly gatherings at the Youth Center for all mentors and mentees and organizes field trips throughout the year.

December Bennington Young Professionals Holiday Mixer

Indeed another year has passed and the third Wednesday of December BYP Holiday mixer is upon us! This time around we’re going to be gathering at Carmody’s, on Main Street in Bennington on Wednesday, December 16, after work. Please don’t mistake this for Carmody’s West, where we were last month. As per John Lamson’s suggestion, we will be having a voluntary Yankee Swap (I’d rather call it a Red Sox swap) for those who are interested. Nothing more than $5, and don’t feel obligated.

For those who haven’t come in a while, we’ve been getting more and more people lately and it’s a great time. Come out and bring a friend. This is a great chance to get out of the house and meet some great folks and catch up with others whom you haven’t seen in a while!

NorShaft Lions Club Donates to the Interfaith Council Fuel Fund

The NorShaft Lions Club motto is “We Serve” and this year the club is going above and beyond its usual efforts by donating to the Interfaith Council Fuel Fund. In making the donation, William (Jake) Jakubowski, Club President says, “This difficult economy has made the NorShaft Lions even more anxious to help those in need in our community. We are pleased to present the Interfaith Council with a $500 check for their Fuel Fund. Even though it has been a mild winter so far, we know that the freezing temperatures will be here soon enough.”

The NorShaft Lions Club provides sight and hearing assistance to those in need in North Bennington and Shaftsbury. The Club supports the parks in both communities with donations as well as people-power. Each Easter the NorShaft Lions host an Easter Egg Hunt. The Club is also a major supporter of the Austine Green Mountain Lions Camp, which provides a summer program for deaf and hard of hearing chil-dren, their siblings, and children with deaf parents.

Pancake BreakfastThe Battenkill Grange will offer a Pancake Breakfast on Sunday,

December 20, from 8 to 10 a.m. at the covered bridge in West Arlington. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, real Vermont maple syrup, bis-cuits and sausage gravy, home fries, coffee, juice and milk. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

Pittsfield Green Drinks Pittsfield Green Drinks is a very informal gathering, open to every-

one with any environmental interest. The drinks aren’t green, but our conversations are.

North Pole Calling Program

The Pittsfield Department of Community Development Parks and Recreation Program will be conducting the annual North Pole Calling Program Wednesday, December 16 and Thursday, December 17 from 4:30-7 p.m. Sign up forms have been sent home with Pittsfield children in Kindergarten and Grades 1 and 2.

Hinsdale Lions Club Sponsors New Leo Club

On Tuesday, December 8, a new Leo Club was established in Hinsdale, Massachusetts. The goal of the Leo Club is to provide volun-teer services that will benefit the hilltown communities as well as other charitable causes. Leadership, experience, opportunity, the acronym for the club name, are the rewards young people gain from participating. It is hopeful that these Leos will continue on to become Lions. This newly established club is for youth between the ages of 12-18 years and is a community-based club.

Elected officers include: President, Mary Morrison, Vice President Nicky Eurban, Secretary Noelle Lussier and Treasurer Alex Carpenter. Sponsors from the Lions Club include VP Florence Dodge and PDG Paul Snow. The Leos will meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 4:30 p.m., at the Lions Community Building, Route 143, Hinsdale, Massachusetts.

Their first project is to sponsor a girl and boy as part of the Berkshire Community Action Council, Inc. Warm Clothing Holiday Program. Leos will donate gifts, wrap and deliver them to BCAC for distribution before Christmas.

If you can’t, SVCOA (Southwestern Vermont Council on Aging) can! When winter’s blowing in, so are the Blizzard Bags, the Back Up Bags (BUBs), if you will, packed to the brim with 23 different foods providing sev-eral meals and nutritious snacks ready to eat when the storms pre-vent our area seniors from get-ting out, or our Meals on Wheels drivers from delivering. As Pat Harrison, Registered Dietician and Nutrition Consultant for SVCOA says, “It’s a necessity for our homebound seniors who may not have a meal to eat that day due to bad weather.” Harrison has local area churches, business-es, adults and students gather and pack up food so that our Rutland and Bennington seniors have a Back Up Bag, just in case.

Blizzard Bags are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to supplying healthy food to area seniors. There are 40 locations in Rutland and Bennington coun-ties that regularly serve whole-some meals. Many of the meal sites offer programs that range from Bone Builders, knitting, crafts, speakers, movies, yoga, to ballroom dancing. As Suzanne H. says, “One place I love is the Clarendon Meal Site. For seniors, sometimes there are bumps in the road. Meals on Wheels offers temporary help by delivering a homemade meal for a short time following an illness. Many of us want to age gracefully in our own homes but are chal-lenged due to frailty, lack of local family support and transporta-tion issues. As Fred B. shared, “It meant a lot when I was sick to see that cheerful driver checking on me, bringing a hearty meal … and they have the best cookies!” Meals on Wheels ¬is the answer.

Need Breakfast? Meals on Wheels also has a limited Breakfast Program in Rutland County for seniors who need just a little more. Juice, milk and fresh fruit along with cereal and muf-fins are delivered to eat for break-fast the following day. Another slice of the pie at SVCOA is the Supplement Program. For those who are struggling with weight loss or nutritional concerns, Ensure is available.

The icing on the cake is the Checkin’ In Program! Calls are made every few months to seniors on home delivered meals to just “check in.”

Who pays for all this? Max Carleton, Nutrition Services Manager of SVCOA, stated, “Only 60% of the cost is paid with government funds. The rest is all donations. To feed our senior neighbors, the Council needs your help.

So, when you think about giv-ing this year, SVCOA deserves your attention.

Stocking a Green Mountain Christmas Toy Room

Green Mountain Christian Center’s Second Annual Green Mountain Christmas 2009 received a big boost today with a delivery of approxi-mately 1,000 toys for the Toy Gift Room. The Green Mountain Express truck arrived Wednesday to deliver the boxes. “It is great to see so many toys arrive, but it is probably only half of what will be needed,” according to Jan McCart co-coordinator of the Toy Gift Room.

Plans for the Green Mountain Christmas 2009 on December 18 (7-9 p.m.) and December 19 (noon-4 p.m.) include decorating gingerbread houses, live Christmas music, hot cocoa, and other Christmastide activ-ities. However, the focus will be on the Toy Gift Room for parents in need to receive a couple gifts for their children, ages 12 and under. Gifts can then be wrapped for Christmas morning, all while the children are making gingerbread houses. Parents in need should call or visit the Church office before December 18 to make a reservation.

Annual Holiday Party at the Dan Raymond House

Among the chronicles of Sheffield history is the epic blizzard of 1888, which precipitated in a thirty-foot drift on William Little’s front lawn (now the headquarters of the Society.) Consider the story of Herman Callendar, a nearby innkeeper, who upon discovering every door in his house blocked with snow, had to crawl out an upper window to get to his barn and dig out his kitchen door!

The Society’s 11th Annual Festival for the Holiday continues to be open on weekends in December. Featuring a wide array of local crafted gifts, decorations, and quality foodstuffs, the Festival is located in the Old Stone Store, the Society’s gift shop and exhibition space. It is open Saturdays, 10-2, Sundays, 11-3 through December 20. The Festival will also have extended hours on December 23 and December 24, 10 to 4 p.m., in anticipation of the Christmas holiday.

Admission to both the holiday party and the Festival is free and open to the public. Families are welcome. The Dan Raymond House Museum is the Society headquarters located at 159 Main Street, Sheffield, on the north side of Gulotta’s Mobil station. Presidential Active Lifestyle Award Presented to Three at

Bennington Project IndependenceThree participants at Bennington Project Independence received

the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award today with certificates from President Barack Obama. Wayne Bogardus, Shirley Decker, and Timothy Sleeman recently completed a daily regimen of fitness activi-ties daily for six weeks. Families of the three were present to see the award presented by Bob Matteson, local fitness and running enthusiast who holds six American Senior running records.

A number of participants at BPI are active in the Active Lifestyle program, according to BPI Executive Director Linda Wichlac. The award was given at an assembly at the Richard A. Sleeman Center on Harwood Hill.

Matteson addressed the assembly, highlighting his long career in public administration and consulting. He commented, “Everyone here is an important resource to the Bennington community.”

A 92 year-old record holder and Harvard PhD, Matteson was greeted by another participant at BPI, Betty Bushee, who was Class A Senior Women’s Bowling Champion of the United States. Bushee bowled three times a week until age 96.

Troop 332Manchester Boy Scout Troop 332 held a “Court of Honor’ where

troop members Judd Hoffman and Chris Ogilvie were recognized for their accomplishments and sworn in as Eagle Scouts on Sunday, August 30. Family, friends, troop members and dignitaries gathered at Manchester VFW Post #6471 for the special occasion. Guest speak-ers included Town Manager John O’Keefe, State Representative Jeff Wilson, Green Mountain Council President Richard Kruger, Boy Scout Unit Commissioner Dr. Robert Treat, Sr., VFW Post Commander Billy Weeks, and VFW Quartermaster Ken Bergeron.

Boy Scout Council President Kruger presented an American flag, flown over the Capitol in Washington, D.C., at the request of the honor-able Senator Patrick Leahy. VFW quartermaster Bergeron presented an American flag in an engraved flag case and a rare Camp Chesterfield patch.

Judd began Cub Scouts in Manchester, Vermont and moved up the ranks in Boy Scout Troop 332. For his Eagle project, Judd built a tro-phy case and bulletin board, located in the pool house at the Dana L. Thompson Memorial park in Manchester. He is currently in his second year at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston, Massachusetts, majoring in pharmacy.

Christopher joined Cub Scouts in Colorado and progressed through the ranks of Boy Scouts in Manchester Troop 332 when he moved to Vermont. For his Eagle project, Chris built a new equipment storage shed for the Bromley Outing Club at Bromley Mountain. He is cur-rently a freshman at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts, majoring in physical education.

Holiday Arts & Crafts Show at Martha Canfield Library

Shop for the holidays at the Martha Canfield Library in Arlington and support local artisans! The 11th annual holiday show of work by local artists and craftspeople is on display in the library and is open dur-ing library hours through December 31. Visitors may find many traditional craft items such as Christmas stockings, woodworking, weaving, jewelry, orna-ments, scented candles, and other delightful treasures. Each year there are surprise items of a unique nature. If you want to find reasonable stocking stuffers and moderately priced gifts, come and browse the selection in the library’s gallery.

Guiding Good Choices, a Program for Parents of 9-14 Year Olds

Guiding Good Choices is a series of fun, informative, and interactive workshops that gives youth skills to refuse peer pressure and parents skills to reduce the likelihood that children will develop substance abuse and other problem behaviors. These skills could help make man-aging your family easier!

Free five week series offered January 12-February 9, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the Second Congregational Church, Bennington, Vermont.

Session on Hot Careers in Healthcare at Southern Vermont College

For individuals thinking about a career in nursing, radiologic tech-nology, or healthcare management, Southern Vermont College is host-ing an information session on Monday, December 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Hunter Hall’s Greenberg Atrium. Guests will have an opportunity to find out more about these popular fields in healthcare.

During the session, students and faculty in those fields will be avail-able to answer questions. There will be a discussion on the College’s Alzheimer’s disease initiative, and guests will tour SVC’s new high-tech simulation lab and see patient simulators in action.

(well, most weeks!) in this paper and the Vermont News Guide and is now producing “From my Corner in the Shires”, set to appear on CAT-TV in the Southshire and GNAT-TV in the Northshire. She will be highlighting upcoming events and speaking with interesting people who are sharing their time, experience, talents, and love in our com-munities.

The first episode will highlight Lisa Kelly and her friend Julie Ring sharing information about “Heartworks,” a local organization that cre-ates opportunities for women to gather on a monthly basis for their own spiritual and emotional growth and to generate acts of kindness in the community and throughout the world. Heartworks is a registered nonprofit, nondenominational organization.
