In many applications, double offset metal-seated
butterfly valves cannot offer bubble tight shut-off. Forthese applications, Flowserve is now introducing tripleoffset metal seated valves. It features a special sealingmechanism, which consists of contacts of an inclinedand conical disc with laminated seat. As a result, thefriction and abrasion between the sealing elements(disc and seat) are minimized. The unique feature ofthis design is that it provides low torque, broad sealingand tight shut-off.
Single offset
The rotation axis of the disc is moved
back from the sealing surfaces of thedisc. The purpose of this offset is tohave a continuous sealing surface onthe disc.
Double offset
The rotation axis of the disc is movedaway from the center-line of the valvebody. The purpose of this offset isto lift the disc quickly off and awayfrom the seat ring in the body while
decreasing the friction during operation
Triple offset
The virtual conic axis, extended fromthe sealing surfaces of the disc isinclined from the rotation axis ofthe disc. The purpose of this offsetis to eliminate friction, galling andwear generated at the sealing surfaceduring operation and provide bubbletight shut-off on high pressure andtemperature.

Sealing system
The sealing surfaces of the Flowserve valve disc have different angles in all points. The Flowserve TX valve has anelliptical sealing system
The sealing surfaces of an elliptical sealing system are completely in contact at the nal position only, and uponopening, all contact points are released immediately from the seat ring.
This mechanism provides awless bubble tight shut-off. Unlike conventional valve designs, the seat ring is xed in the
body with setscrews along with a retaining ring, mating with the thrust collar. Therefore, the seat ring is not directlyinuenced by uid in open positions.
Laminated seat ringThe laminated seat ring is composed of alternating layers ofmetal and graphite.
The layers of graphite compensate for the lack of smooth matingsurfaces. The laminated seat ring of a Flowserve TX valveprovides bubble tight shut-off even in gas applications.
Each individual layer performs an independent sealing and isunaffected by the damages to other layers.
The elements of the laminated metal plate can be made of variousmetals including Inconel, Monel and Hastelloy depending on theapplication.
Additionally, for high temperature and more severe applications,a solid metal seat ring is available and for low temperatureapplications the solid metal seat ring can be replaced with a PTFEor RTFE seat ring.
Principle of Sealing System
TX Triple offset valves operate using a camming action which reduces the possibility of galling or scratching on thesealing surfaces between the sealing elements (disc and seat). The camming action of these valves also reduces thepossibility of jamming between the sealing elements, which can happen with valves that rely on single point sealing.
