! DANGERStay away from a blade that has tripped and will not resetitself. Do not attempt to free the blade by hand as the bladecan suddenly spring back due to the high return spring load.See “Jammed Trip Blade” instructions on page 21.

Pre-Operation Inspection1. Park tractor/skid steer with Trip Edge Blade on a flat

level surface. Place transmission in park, set parkbrake and lower blade onto the level surface.

2. Shut tractor/skid steer off, remove switch key, relieveall pressure in the hydraulic lines and wait for allmoving parts to come to a complete stop beforedismounting from the tractor/skid steer.

3. Visually check for excessive wear, worn, damaged, cracked, or loose parts. Replace parts with genuineLand Pride parts.

4. Inspect all connections for leaks. Tighten anyconnections that are loose.

5. Start tractor/skid steer and check hydraulic oil leakswith a piece of paper or cardboard. Do not use yourhands as invisible thin streams of high pressure oilcan be injected into your skin.

6. Inspect hydraulic hose for pinch points that candamage the hose during operation and for sufficientlength and equipment clearances. See “EquipmentClearances” on page 10.

7. Check all controls and operating functions of thetractor/skid steer.

Trip Edge Blade FunctionsRaising & Lowering The Trip BladeUse tractor/skid steer arms to raise and lower the TripBlade. Often the arms are set to float so that the TripBlade can float over the terrain while riding on the skidshoes.

Tilting the Trip BladeOperate cylinders at the front of the tractor/skid steerloader arms to tilt the Trip Blade forwards or backwards.Do not tip the Trip Blade forward to apply down pressureas this will cause the Trip Blade to ride up over the snowand will trip the blade.

Angling the Trip BladeAngle the Trip Blade to push product to the side byoperating the tractor/skid steer hydraulic lever. Move thelever in one direction to push product to the left and in theopposite direction to push product to the right. Releasethe lever when the moldboard is at the preferred angle.Switch male and female couplers on the hydraulic hosesif lever action is opposite of what is preferred.

Transporting

! DANGERDo not allow the blade to cross over the center line of a publicroad. Oncoming traffic can hit the blade resulting in personalinjury, loss of life, and damage to equipment.

! WARNINGWhen traveling on public roads at night or during the day, useaccessory lights and devices for adequate warning tooperators of other vehicles. Comply with all federal, state, andlocal laws.

1. Raise Trip Edge Blade to a safe traveling height thatdoes not block your view.

2. Lock blade oriented straight across with pivot controlpin (#1). See “Pivot Lock” instructions on page 14.

3. Set hydraulic flow to off or neutral to preventaccidental lowering of the blade. Never adjust TripBlade while traveling.

4. Select a safe ground speed when transporting fromone area to another.

5. Be sure to reduce ground speed when turning andleave enough clearance so the blade does notcontact obstacles such as buildings, trees, or fences.

6. When traveling on roadways, transport in such a waythat faster moving vehicles may pass you safely.

7. Shift to a lower gear when traveling over rough orhilly terrain.

Operating GuidelinesRemoving snow with your blade can be made easier byfollowing some simple guidelines.

• Allow any blade that is kept in warm storage to coolbefore moving snow. Snow will freeze to a warm blademaking snow removal difficult.

• Stay current with your snow removal. Fresh snow ismuch easier to remove.

• Push first snows far enough away to allow space forfuture snow falls.

• Do not overload equipment. Push only as much snowas equipment can safely and easily handle. Snow thathas become deep and/or compacted may requireseveral passes.

• Be aware of equipment overheating. Allow time forequipment to cool if it is overheating.

• Accelerate slowly when starting a pass to allow time fortire traction and for snow to accumulate in front of theblade.

• Reduce speed when coming to the end of a pass andwhen needed.

• Never pile snow on someone else’s property, streets,or sidewalks.

11/26/14

• Check with local regulations before pushing snowacross roadways. This may be illegal in your area.

• Never pile snow near fire hydrants, mailboxes, waterdrains, electrical boxes, or handicapped parking areas.

• Never pile snow where it obstructs visibility of traffic.

Plowing SnowThe Trip Edge Blade is primarily designed for snowremoval operations in the forward operating mode only. Its trip edge design provides improved protection againstblade damage when unexpected ground obstacles areencountered.

! DANGERDo not carry riders on/in the power equipment and/or on theTrip Blade.

! DANGERDo not drive up to anyone standing in front of a fixed objectsuch as a wall or bench. Never assume the brakes will stop thepower equipment in time.

! WARNINGNever allow anyone near the Trip Blade during operation.

! WARNINGAlways wear the seat belt when using the Trip Blade and lowerthe seat bar if equipped with the skid steer. Not taking theseprecautions can cause serious personal injury if the TripBlade was to come in contact with a solid object.

1. When possible, thoroughly inspect the area to beplowed ahead of a snowfall. Otherwise, search thearea thoroughly for potential problems before movingthe snow.

a. Mark all potential obstructions with stakes or flagsthat can be seen above the snow.

b. Identify emergency equipment and utility outletsthat will need quick access. Make a plan on how toclear the area so that emergency crews canaccess them quickly in the event of a storm.

c. Identify areas where snow can be piled safelywithout obstructing traffic visibility and withoutobstructing access to fire hydrants, utilities, mailboxes, property, and parking areas. Also, don’t pile snow on streets, sidewalks, or someoneelse’s property without permission from theproper authorities.

d. Identify tight areas that will be hard to turn aroundin and make a plan for clearing such areas.

IMPORTANT: When pushing snow into a pile, always do so with blade in the straight forwardposition. Piling snow with the blade angled candamage the blade and tractor/skid steer.

2. Adjust bottom of the skid shoes to be about 1/2"below the blade cutting edge when on soft surfacessuch as gravel or dirt and even with the bottomcutting edge when on hard surfaces such as asphaltor concrete.

3. Unlock pivot assembly with pivot control pin (#1).See “Pivot Lock” instructions on page 14.

4. Set tractor/skid steer lift arms to float so that the skidshoes and blade can follow the contour of theground.

5. Set blade angle straight if pushing snow into a pile.Set blade angle to the left or right if moving snow toone side.

6. Lower blade down and drive forward. When at theend of travel, raise blade up and back tractor/skidsteer up to get a new load of snow.

• Straight Blade: Push snow up into piles by settingthe blade straight and pushing the snow towards thepile. Raise the blade up slowly while pushing thesnow onto the pile to make the pile higher andbigger.

• Angling the Blade: Clear large lots of snow bysetting the blade at an angle and making a singlepath through the lot. Then make successive passespushing the snow to the outer edges of the lot.

• Unmanageable Snow: Remove snow before itaccumulates too deep or becomes too wet. Wetsnow weighs around 12 lbs per cubic ft., and willadd several tons of weight to push. Deep snow isheavy and unmanageable to move; both cost timeand wear on equipment.

Raise blade up to shear off the top 6" layer. Lowerblade 6" to clear off another layer. Continuelowering blade until a working area is cleared. Thenwork small areas making multiple passes pushingsnow to the outer edges. Use the following as aguide line:

6" Snow: Use full blade width to push snow.9" Snow: Use 3/4 blade width to push snow.12" Snow: Use 1/2 blade width to push snow.

Pushing Light Aggregate MaterialsThe Trip Edge Blade is also designed to push lightaggregate materials such as pea gravel, light dirt work, and live stock feed such as shelled or ground corn andsilage. Its trip-edge design provides improved protectionagainst blade damage when unexpected groundobstacles are encountered.

Section 4: Operating ProceduresTable of Contents

General Operating InstructionsOnce you have familiarized yourself with the Operator’sManual, completed the operations checklist, andproperly attached your Land Pride TB2596 or TB25108Trip Edge Blade to your tractor loader or skid steerloader, you are now almost ready to begin work. TheTB2596 and TB25108 Trip Edge Blade were designedand built by Land Pride for quick-attach adapter platefront mounting to 30 to 80 hp tractors or skid steersequipped with remote hydraulic outlets. They are idealfor snow removal as well as lighter dirt leveling, finishgrading, and backfilling applications around feedlots, outdoor arenas, building sites, and smaller gravelspreading operations on farm and ranch lanes orroadways. They are also excellent for pushing livestockfeed such as shelled or ground corn or silage. Hopefully, you have checked out your work site for any obstaclesthat you wouldn’t want to damage or encounter. Markingstakes should be placed to help you avoid obstaclesburied in the snow or to help establish push-back limitsfor snow piles.

The TB2596 and TB25108 front mounted blades haveTrip-Edge protection designed in to provide an addedmeasure of safety. Should you strike an immovableobject in your path, the bottom edge of the bladeimmediately releases and tilts rearward until you areclear of the obstacle. When the obstacle is passed over, the blade will automatically reset itself to workingposition. Because of the potential to encounter buriedobstacles in the snow, Land Pride insists that alloperator’s of these blades wear seat belts for their ownpersonal safety.

If you have the blade set at an angle, the accumulatedsnow or material will begin to move outward toward thetrailing edge of the blade. The greater the angle the morequickly the accumulation will be distributed off to the side. When pushing snow or aggregate materials into a pile, itis usually best to raise the blade at the last minute inorder to push the upper portion of the pile even furtherback. Ground speeds for snow removal functions arebest done at an approximate 2 to 4 mph ground speed.Becoming proficient with a front blade takes somepractice. Tractor or skid steer horsepower, your personalskill level, depth, and weight of the snow, tractionconditions, soil, or aggregate composition, moisturelevels, and compaction factors will all have a definiteimpact on how easily and effectively you get the job done.Develop a plan to achieve your expected results. Set theblade up at the proper angle to do the job. This mayrequire some experimentation to achieve the desiredresults. Remember that this blade is designed for forwardoperation only.

With a little practice you should become a very goodoperator and consistently achieve the desired results youexpect with your Land Pride TB25 Series Trip EdgeBlade. See the “Features and Benefits” section or the“Product Specifications” section for additionalinformation and performance enhancing options.

Trip Hinge MaintenanceRefer to Figure 5-3:

! CAUTIONNever work under the Trip Edge Blade without properlyblocking it up first. The unit can fall resulting in serious injuryor death.

! CAUTIONAlways lock pivot assembly when working on or around theTrip Blade. An unlocked blade can suddenly rotate clockwiseor counterclockwise causing personal injury.

At the start of each season, check blade hingemovement to ensure the pivot rods have not seized.

1. Park tractor/skid steer with Trip Edge Blade on a flatlevel solid surface. Lock blade oriented straightacross with pivot control pin (#4) and hairpincotter (#9).

2. Lower hitch frame onto solid support blocks withblade supported off the ground.

3. Place transmission in park and set park brake.

4. Shut tractor/skid steer off, remove switch key, andrelieve all hydraulic pressure before dismounting.

NOTE: The Trip Blade could be damaged if it willnot trip or has tripped and will not reset. See“Jammed Trip Blade” on this page if it will not resetitself.

5. Remove lock nuts (#7) and bolts (#6) until all fourspring assemblies (#10) are detached at the bottomfrom blade (#1). Be careful not to lose lower springmount spacers (#3).

6. Move hinged blade (#1) fully forward and backwardby hand.

a. If blade does not move, spray penetration oil intothe hinge joints and work blade back and forthuntil it moves freely.

b. If blade still does not move, remove lock nuts (#8)and screws (#5) from both sides of the blade. Pullpivot rods (#2) partway out to free up hingemovement. Work blade back and forth until itmoves freely. Apply white lithium based spraylubricant to the pivot rods (#2) and then reinsertthem into the hinge barrels. Secure rods in placewith 3/8"-16 x 1" GR5 hex flange screws (#5) andhex flange lock nuts (#8). Tighten nuts to thecorrect torque.

7. Reassemble spring assemblies (#10) to the hingedblade (#1) with 1/2"-13 x 6 1/8" GR5 hex flangescrews (#6), lower spring mount spacers (#3) andhex flange lock nuts (#7). Draw nuts up to rib. Do notover tighten or spring assembly may not rotateproperly.

8. Apply white lithium based spray lubricant to thehinge joints to help keep moisture out.

9. Raise blade up and remove support blocks.

Jammed Trip Blade

! DANGERStay away from a blade that has tripped and will not resetitself. Do not attempt to free the blade by hand as the bladecan suddenly spring back due to the high spring return load.

! DANGERDo not disassemble blade and springs while springs arecompressed. Each spring can store over 1000 lbs. The suddenrelease of this force can cause great bodily harm.

With proper maintenance and under normal operatingconditions, the blade should always return to itsoperating position after tripping. Stay away from theblade if it has not returned. Do not pull debris from theblade hinge or attempt to work on the blade to free abound area.

Penetrating oil can be sprayed on the hinge to help freeblade movement. Be sure to keep a safe distance awayfrom the blade’s rotational path and blade hinge whilespraying.

Try resetting the blade by lowering it to the ground andbacking up with the tractor/skid steer. Do not catch theblade on a solid object while backing up as this candamage the blade and blade hinge.

Perform maintenance on the blade after it has reset itselfto keep the blade from becoming jammed again. See“Trip Hinge Maintenance” on this page for instructions.

Hydraulics

! WARNINGAlways secure the Trip Edge Blade with solid supports beforeworking under it. Never work under equipment supported byhydraulics. Hydraulics can drop equipment if controls areactuated or if a hydraulic line burst. Either situation can dropmachinery instantly even when power to the hydraulics is off.

One of the most important things you can do to preventhydraulic system problems is to ensure that your tractor/skid steer's reservoir remains free of dirt andcontamination. These simple maintenances will go along way to prevent occurrence of hydraulic problems:

1. Replace your tractor/skid steer’s hydraulic filterelement at the prescribed intervals.

2. Inspect tractor/skid steer hydraulic oil level. Add oil ifit is low.

3. Use a clean cloth to wipe hose ends before attachingthem to your tractor/skid steer.

IMPORTANT: If blade will not reset itself afterbacking-up, have a qualified service technician repairthe unit. Do not attempt to repair it yourself.

21 TB2596 & TB25108 Trip Blade 301-291M

4. Inspect quick couplers, make sure they are fullyengaged. Replace couplers if they are sized wrong.

5. Inspect hydraulic hoses and cylinder for oil leaks.Tighten or replace components to fix leaks.

StorageClean, inspect, service, and make necessary repairs tothe blade when parking it for long periods and whenparking it at the end of a working season. This will helpensure the blade is ready for field use the next time youhook-up to it.

1. Remove any dirt and grease that may haveaccumulated on the blade and moving parts. Scrapeoff compacted dirt from the bottom of blade and thenwash surface thoroughly with a garden hose.

2. Inspect for loose, damaged or worn parts and adjustor replace as needed.

3. Repaint parts where paint is worn or scratched toprevent rust. Ask your Land Pride dealer for aerosoltouch-up paint. Paint is also available in touch-upbottles with brush, quarts, and gallon sizes by addingTU, QT, or GL to the end of the aerosol part number.

4. Replace all damaged or missing decals.

5. A coating of oil may also be applied to the lower bladearea to minimize oxidation while in storage.

6. To protect against sizing, lubricate moving parts asnoted in “Lubrication Points” starting on page 22.

7. Store blade on a level surface in a clean, dry place.Inside storage will reduce maintenance and make fora longer blade life.

8. Follow all unhooking instructions on page 16 whendisconnecting tractor from blade.
