1.3.2 Intended use of the DOL starter components

The DOL starter includes:UMKA-04 controller performs such functions as DOL starter control, scanning current values of the

device, scanning and programming of settings.UMKA-04 controller communicates with SPP subunit via RS485 interface.

Figure 1.7 — DOL starter control section

Green indicator («Operation») on the UNKA-04 forward panel is designed for indicating the ESM on state. Indicator blinking means that some parameter has exceeded a threshold value and a countdown to shutoff protection acting has begun. If the parameter value becomes normal the ESM is kept running, if not – ESM is shut down.

Yellow indicator («Wait») on the UNKA-04 forward panel is designed for indicating the ESM off state with a capability of automatic restart (AR). It shows a continuous glow if some parameter is beyond a threshold value. Indicator blinking improves information content of the DOL starter status and goes to show that there are no reasons which may prevent ESM from being started up, and a countdown to AR begins.

Red indicator («Stop») on the UNKA-04 forward panel is designed for indicating the ESM off state without any capability of automatic restart (AR).

Limit switches SA1 and SA5 are designed for interrupting power supply to contactor coil. Limit switch SA3 controls the low-voltage compartment door. Limit switches SA1 and SA5 act as light switches in the connection compartment and in the high-voltage compartment respectively.

1.4.3 DOL starter operating modes

DOL starter provides two modes of operation:• Manual mode;• Automatic mode.

For choose needed operating mode edit parameter «000 Operating mode» (menu «Actual parameters» — «Manual/Auto»).

When selecting the desired operation mode should also install wafer switch on the front panel to the appropriate position: «manual» or «automatic» (function not available in this DOL starter specification).

Manual operating modeWhen «000 Operating mode» parameter setted in mode «Manual» («Actual settings» — «Operation

mode» — «Manual/Auto») the DOL starter sets in manual mode of operation. All functions of DOL starter are realized in this mode, accept associated with AR. In such a mode the DOL

starter starts are performed manually only. This mode is primarily used during installation or adjustment of the control station.

At pressing «START» button the motor starts operating. At the same time a green light-emitting diode («OPERATION») lights up on the UMKA-04 controller front panel, and on the display in menu «Actual parameters» a message «START: operator» (indicating date and time of start-up) is represented.

Motor stops running at the moment of pressing the «STOP» button. At the same time a red light-emitting diode («STOP») lights up on the controller front panel. In menu «Actual parameters» a message «STOP: operator» (indicating date and time of start-up) is represented. If ESM starts/stops remotely from the process automated control system (PACS) the following messages will be displayed respectively: «START: ACS» and «STOP: ACS».

If electric motor is tripped due to actuation of a protection the message «STOP» will be displayed indicating the reason of the shutdown as well as its time and date. A red light-emitting diode («STOP») lights up on the controller front panel. If the protection-acting condition is still in effect a message about the active protection will be displayed on the controller screen. In such a case the motor won’t be able to start up again (ready-to-run conditions are not available). After restoring the parameter value abnormality of which caused the protection actuation the above-mentioned message will disappear.

Automatic operating modeWhen «000 Operating mode» parameter setted in mode «Manual» («Actual settings» — «Operation

mode» — «Manual/Auto») the DOL starter sets in automatical mode of operation This is the basic operating mode of a DOL starter.

In automatic mode the DOL starter startup is carried out by pressing «START» button or when the supply voltage is applied and standing value of delay by time is over (if power-on startup is enabled).Auto switch to power up occurs when a power outage before the DOL starter was in operation or it cowndown the time to AR. If before turning the power button was pressed «STOP» , the switch does not occur.

If, before the power failure automatic mode was set, the DOL starter will be in « Timer mode « while the ESM was turned on, after power and after expiration of the autostart will be included on the time remaining to stop the timer . If the ESM has been disconnected , and at the same DOL starter was countdown time before AR, then the time before AR will be reduced by the time that the DOL starter was without power. If the station was without power for longer than the time remaining before AR that is counted only the time to startup.

Automatic restarts of DOL starters are possible after actuation of protections permitting restarts. After the motor switching-off caused by actuation of the AR-permitting protection the countdown of the AR delay begins. If the reason that prevents starting exists, then the yellow light-emitting diode («WAIT») lights continiosly on the controller front panel and the countdown of the AR delay does not executed. Only exception – turbine rotation availability.

Page 17: TRIOL AK01 - triolcorp.us · as per NEMA 250-2008 standard. Special devices for slinging are provided for on the top cover of the DOL starter. Example of DOL starter general view

If the reason that prevents starting does not exist, then the countdown of the AR delay executed. In this way indicator «WAIT» start blinking. In AR waiting mode «STOP» message appear on display. It indicate the cause of STOP and also the time left to Automatic Restart. The motor will start on expiry of this time.

If the motor is switched off by a protection not allowing automatic restarts, «STOP» message indicating the reason of STOP will be displayed, and red indicator will light up on the controller front panel.

Switching of the modes does not change the motor state, i.e. the motor would keep running if it was in operation before changing the mode, and it wouldn’t start if tripped.

Pressing «STOP» button always leads to the motor STOP (if it is running) and prevents its restart.

DOL starter timer operation mode (by preset time program)Timer operation of the DOL starter may be enabled (by preset time program) only in automatic mode.

ESP stop and start occur in accordance with time range modes.

Event logDOL starter controller provides recording into the nonvolatile internal memory about following events:

• voltage supply to the DOL starter;• ESP start;• ESP stop;• emergency stop;• settings changing of DOL starter (programming);• ESP current recording;• supply-line voltage recording;• DME (telemetry) parameters recording;• Door opening of low voltage compartment.

ESP current recording performs for each phase when average current changes on a greater or equal value than parameter «Δ I ESM registered» (menu «Event log»/«Log delta settings») or with time range «392 Пери-од зап.раб.».

Recording of line voltage value performs when average voltage changes on a greater or equal value than parameter «ΔU для записи» or at adjusted time. If ESP operates recording will be provided with time range parameter «392 Период зап.раб.». If ESP is stopped recording will be provided with time range parameter «393 Rec. time stop».

Recording of line voltage value performs when average voltage changes on a greater or equal value than parameter «665 DME rec. period» or at adjusted time.

Recording of operation parameters performs every second during ESP start for time «667 Rec. time start».If fault happens or timer mode tripping is on, recording performs with time range parameter «394 Urgent rec.».

Capacity of controller memory is 4 MB. It provides to save at least 200 000 records in the event log.Information recording into the event log performs periodically. If event log memory is full early events will

be overwritten.Recording information can be viewed on the controller display and downloaded to USB flash drive or PC

by means of using software. Updated version is available for downloading at the manufacturer website www.triolcorp.com.
