PHILIPPIANS 3:12A; 13B (NKJV)

12Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

13Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.

11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

2 KINGS 6:1-7 (NIV)1The company of the prophets said to Elisha, “Look, the place where we meet with you is too small for us. 2Let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a pole; and let us build a place there for us to meet.” And he said, “Go.” 3Then one of them said, “Won’t you please come with your servants?” “I will,” Elisha replied. 4And he went with them. They went to the Jordan and began to cut down trees. 5As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axhead fell into the water. “Oh no, my lord!” he cried out. “It was borrowed!”6The man of God asked, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float. 7“Lift it out,” he said. Then the man reached out his hand and took it.

REV. SHELETA FOMBY is a native of the Washing-ton DC Metropolitan area and reared in Prince George’s County Maryland. Upon graduating, Rev. Fomby enlisted in the United States Air Force where she proudly served her country in Ramstein, Germany. After completing her mili-tary service, Rev. Fomby worked in the federal government for thirteen years before resigning to serve in ministry.

Having acknowledged her call to ministry in November 2002, Rev. Fomby was licensed to preach that same year. She received ordination as Itinerant Deacon in the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church in April, 2007 and

Itinerant Elder orders in April, 2009. Rev. Fomby’s life assignment is to advance God’s Kingdom agenda in the earth through servant leadership that inspires and empowers people to take the next faithful step. She is thankful to live out this calling in the capacity of the Minister to Church of the Reid Temple AME Church, Inc. (North Location) and as the Minister to Women.

A gifted preacher and teacher, Rev. Fomby has been privileged to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ on various national platforms. Her sermons have been published in The African Ameri-can Pulpit Journal. The same publication has recognized her as one of the “20 To Watch Under 40.” She is also published in “These Sisters Can Say It!, a compilation of sermons by 21st Century African American Women Preachers, edited by Darryl Sims with Rev. Dr. Cynthia Hale. Rev. Fom-by faithfully renders her gifts for service unto Jesus Christ and His church through ministry, as she is frequently invited to minister in a wide array of ministry settings, including women’s confer-ences, retreats, panel discussions, workshops and seminars. Her ministry is richly empowered by the Holy Spirit as evidenced by her enlightened and insightful expression of God’s holy word.

Rev. Fomby holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of MD (UMUC) and Masters of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary. She is currently participating in continuing education studies at the Duke Divinity Faith and Leadership Institute. She endeavors to always do ministry with integrity and authenticity. God has worked miraculously in her life and to him she gives all honor, praise and glory. Rev. Fomby is encouraged daily by Philippians 1:6, “…being confident of this very thing that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

REV. COURTNEY CLAYTON JENKINS currently serves as the Pastor and Teacher of Euclid Avenue Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Cleveland, OH. Just six months before Rev. Jenkins was called to serve this historical congregation, the church edifice of Euclid Avenue was struck by lightning and the building was completely destroyed by fire. With courage, Euclid Avenue called Rev. Jenkins to become their pastor at this very difficult time. In an attempt to utilize this devastating fire as a way of allowing God to do “a new thing”, the congregation offered Rev. Jenkins the distinct honor of being the first African American, first female and the youngest pastor in the history of the church and Rev. Jenkins has been leading this congregation out of the ashes by the grace of God.

Born and raised in Cleveland Ohio, Rev Jenkins is a graduate of Spelman College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. Rev. Jenkins received her Masters of Divinity degree from Princeton University, with a concentration in Preaching and Congregational Ministry. In the United Church of Christ denomination, Rev. Jenkins is an ordained minister and has served in several capacities, including Pastor of Shaker Heights Community Church, United Church of Christ.

Rev. Jenkins has facilitated anti-racism training and rites of passage programs for youth, teaches life skills to low-income adults, and volunteers her time teaching re-entry skills to incarcerated women. She serves on the Board of Directors for Project Love/Purple America and the Prisoner Re-entry for Northeast Pre-Release. Rev. Jenkins is Co-Founder of the Without Walls Women in Ministry retreat designed to glorify God and edify women in ministry.

Rev. Jenkins is married to her seminary sweetheart, Reverend Cory C. Jenkins, Senior Pastor of the historic Shiloh Baptist Church and a graduate of Morehouse College. In January, 2012, Rev. Cory and Rev. Courtney were selected as one of the “Most Interesting Couples” in Cleveland, due, in part, to the unique fact both serve two of the oldest congregations in the city at such young ages.

On March 18, 2014, Rev. Courtney and Rev. Cory rejoiced in the arrival of Baby Caleb. He was their “gift from God!” They are excited to begin this new chapter in their lives with God’s guidance. Rev. Courtney stays committed to God’s calling and purpose upon her life. She remains excited about God’s desire to use the next generation to impact this nation with God’s unconditional love and al-mighty power. Called for the purpose of the Kingdom, Rev. Courtney Clayton Jenkins will continue to ensure “thy Kingdom come, thy Will be done.”

Raise the RoofThen I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace.” . . . They replied, “Let us start rebuilding.” So they began this good work.

Party with a PurposeFriday, May 30, 2014

On Friday, May 30, 2014, Trinity United Church of Christ will open our doors for a unique event designed to celebrate our culture, lift up our Savior, Jesus Christ, and SERVE our community.

Conceived as a new way to celebrate Pastor Moss’ pastoral anniversary here at Trinity UCC, this event will deliver a one-of-a-kind experience, as we welcome community members and adopt A Safe Haven South as a community resource that we will support. This organization provides housing and other assistance to men, women, and children, with a focus on helping them achieve self-sufficiency.

Our Party with a Purpose will host many of the children, women, and men of A Safe Haven, as well as others from the community, for food, fellowship, and a bit of pampering (haircuts, manicures, pedicures, and other services are being donated by professionals in our community). Music will include jazz, a house DJ, and, of course, gospel played in venues around the church.

In addition, Trinity UCC members are being asked to make specific donations to A Safe Haven.

AnnouncementsNEWS YOU CAN USE: GET COVERED ILLINOIS

Did you miss the Healthcare Enrollment deadline? The 2014 Open Enrollment Period for Healthcare.gov has officially ended as of March 31st. It will re-open November 15, 2014 for coverage beginning in 2015. Medicaid-eligible Illinoisans can enroll in Medicaid at any time. And there are some specific situations that trigger Special Enrollment Periods, listed on the next page, in which you can still enroll for 2014.

What if I haven’t heard anything since March 31st? If healthcare.gov deemed you eligible for Medicaid, the information was supposed to be sent to the state Medicaid department. In some cases, the information did not come through, and in others, there is simply a delay at the Department of Human Services. Individuals in this situation should call DHS at 800-843-6154 and, following the automated prompts, dial (1), then (1), then (4), then (3), then (1) to check if their application is in the state’s system for processing. If not, you can apply for Medicaid directly at www.abe.illinois.gov.

Can I Appeal? If you don’t appear to qualify for a special enrollment period, or if you apply and the Marketplace says you don’t qualify for either coverage or premium tax credits, you can appeal a decision to deny you a special enrollment period.

Situations that allow enrollment after March 31st:1. If you and/or your family are eligible for Medicaid, you can enroll anytime. Medicaid has no deadline for enrollment.

2. Small business owners with at least 2 non-family Full Time Employees can enroll through the SHOP Marketplace at anytime.

3. If, due to recent qualifying life events, you are eligible for a Special Enrollment Period [SEP]. Qualifying events include: change in family size, certain income changes, involuntarily losing other health insurance, moving across state lines, gaining citizenship, leaving incarceration, or these exceptional cases:

• Delayed Medicaid Denials: If you applied during open enrollment, but were found ineligible for Medicaid or All Kids after March 31st.

• System Errors Related to Immigration Status: Errors by the healthcare.gov system may have resulted in an incorrect eligibility result for you based on your immigration status.

• Misrepresentation or Misinformation: If someone assisting you (Navigator, broker or agent) resulted in not enrolling, choosing the wrong plan, or not getting a tax subsidy or cost-sharing reduction.

• Victims of Domestic Abuse: If you are a victim of domestic abuse who was unable to enroll and receive premium tax credits separately from your spouse, you can do so now.

• Exceptional Circumstances: If you faced exceptional circumstances that stopped you from finishing your enrollment on time [i.e. a natural disaster or medical emergency].

If you should qualify for a SEP, call the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596 and state clearly that you believe you qualify for a special enrollment period.

July • Job 38:4-7 (NIV)Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundations? Tell me if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footings set or who laid its cornerstone while the morning stars sang together for joy!
