LOVE LIFTED MEVerse 1

I was sinking deep in sin, Far from The peaceful shore, Very deeply stained

Within, sinking to rise no more; But the Master of the sea heard my

Despairing cry, from the waters lifted me - Now safe am I.

ChorusLove lifted me, love lifted me, When nothing else could help, Love lifted me. Love lifted me, Love lifted me, When nothing

Else could help, Love lifted me.

Verse 2All my heart to Him I give, ever to Him I’ll cling in His blessed presence live, Ever His praises sing. Love so mighty

And so true merits my soul’s best songs; Faithful, loving service, too, To Him belongs.

Verse 3Souls in danger, look above, Jesus Completely saves; He will lift you

By His love out of the angry waves. He’s the Master of the sea, billows His

Will obey; He your Savior wants to be – Be saved today.

LUKE 14:12-24 (NIV)

12Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

15When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, “Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God.” 16Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. 17At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’ 18“But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’

19“Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’ 20“Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’ 21“The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’

22“‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’ 23“Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. 24I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’”

Memorial Day Litany

Minister: For those who have given their lives for their country and whose graves we visit this Memorial Day weekend, that they may rest in God's peace and that their sacrifice may inspire in us who live a commitment to the ideals for which they perished, we pray to the Lord.

People: Lord, hear our prayer.

Minister: For our veterans, whom we have sent to far countries on our behalf, and who for us have often endured fear, trauma, and sorrow that no human should have to face, that they may receive healing of their hearts and a welcome home from their towns, their families, and their churches, we pray to the Lord.

People: Lord, hear our prayer.

Minister: For our men and women serving under orders this day, especially those who may be in situations of danger or captivity, that they may be inspired by the ideal of duty, may conduct themselves with honor, may love country second only to God, and may receive strength equal to every challenge they face, we pray to the Lord.

People: Lord, hear our prayer.

Minister: For families of men and women now on active duty, families of veterans, civilian families who have suffered in time of war, and especially those families whose tables will always have an empty chair, we pray to the Lord.

People: Lord, hear our prayer.

Minister: For our leaders, who have the power to promote peace and justice or to extinguish life itself from our planet, that any and all decisions relating to the use of armed forces may be preceded by prayer and accompanied by agony, we pray to the Lord.

People: Lord, hear our prayer.

Minister: For ourselves, our congregation and pastor and all persons of faith, that recognizing the expression in works which must result from an experience of faith, we may be builders of community as well as seekers of salvation, we may seek outer peace as well as inner harmony, and justice for our world as well as fairness for ourselves, to the end that the dwelling of God may be with us, and we shall be God's people, that the former things pass away and war shall be no more, we pray to the Lord.

All: Amen.

Family,

Thank God for you. You are so close to reaching our goal of $5 million . . . As of May 21st, we are just short of 95% of our goal, or

$4,724,719! 1,241 members/families have made that possible.

Also, as of May 21st, 2,342 members have opted-in. That means that if just the remaining 1,101 members who have already opted-in pledged just $20 a month for the next 3 years, we would easily exceed our goal.

God is doing a great work through the members of Trinity United Church of Christ!

Stay informed… Visit the Raise the Roof web site: www.raisetheroofcampaign.org.

Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace.” . . . They replied, “Let us start rebuilding.” So they began this good work.

Party with a PurposeFriday, May 30, 2014

On Friday, May 30, 2014, Trinity United Church of Christ will open our doors for a unique event designed to celebrate our culture, lift up our Savior, Jesus Christ, and SERVE our community.

Conceived as a new way to celebrate Pastor Moss’ pastoral anniversary here at Trinity UCC, this event will deliver a one-of-a-kind experience, as we welcome community members and adopt A Safe Haven South as a community resource that we will support. These organizations provide housing and other assistance to men, women, and children, with a focus on helping them achieve self-sufficiency.

Our Party with a Purpose will host many of the children, women, and men of A Safe Haven South, as well as the residents of the Mercy Home for Boys and Girls and A Door of Hope, as others from the community, for food, fellowship, and a bit of pampering (haircuts, manicures, pedicures, and other services are being donated by professionals in our community). Music will include jazz, a house DJ, and, of course, gospel played in venues around the church. In addition, Trinity UCC members are being asked to make specific donations to A Safe Haven South.

Donations Requested for A Safe Haven South:

Time/Talent• Math Tutors• Workshop Leaders (Domestic Violence and many other topics)• Repairs• Painting• Nutrition counseling for the residents• Assistance with preparation for employment• Books for the kids• A sofa or some type of seating for the entrance

When visiting or caring for an aging parent or loved one, pay attention to small things that may indicate health problems.

The inability to recognize famous faces (first and last names) could be the difference between normal memory loss and signs of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. (A score of less than 50% may warrant an evaluation.)

If you or someone you know is caring for a loved one, please contact our Endeleo-Amani Health office at 773-966-1585 or [email protected] to learn more about our caregiver support services.

Endeleo-Amani Health was founded for the purpose of “promoting the overall health, wellness and peace of African American families and communities.” Our mission is to assist persons in our community to achieve their ultimate healing, wholeness and peace through the provision of the highest quality of health and health-related services.

AnnouncementsNEWS YOU CAN USE: GET COVERED ILLINOIS

Did you miss the Healthcare Enrollment deadline? The 2014 Open Enrollment Period for Healthcare.gov has officially ended as of March 31st. It will re-open November 15, 2014 for coverage beginning in 2015. Medicaid-eligible Illinoisans can enroll in Medicaid at any time. And there are some specific situations that trigger Special Enrollment Periods, listed on the next page, in which you can still enroll for 2014.

What if I haven’t heard anything since March 31st? If healthcare.gov deemed you eligible for Medicaid, the information was supposed to be sent to the state Medicaid department. In some cases, the information did not come through, and in others, there is simply a delay at the Department of Human Services. Individuals in this situation should call DHS at 800-843-6154 and, following the automated prompts, dial (1), then (1), then (4), then (3), then (1) to check if their application is in the state’s system for processing. If not, you can apply for Medicaid directly at www.abe.illinois.gov.

Can I Appeal? If you don’t appear to qualify for a special enrollment period, or if you apply and the Marketplace says you don’t qualify for either coverage or premium tax credits, you can appeal a decision to deny you a special enrollment period.

Situations that allow enrollment after March 31st:1. If you and/or your family are eligible for Medicaid, you can enroll anytime. Medicaid has no deadline for enrollment.

2. Small business owners with at least 2 non-family Full Time Employees can enroll through the SHOP Marketplace at anytime.

3. If, due to recent qualifying life events, you are eligible for a Special Enrollment Period [SEP]. Qualifying events include: change in family size, certain income changes, involuntarily losing other health insurance, moving across state lines, gaining citizenship, leaving incarceration, or these exceptional cases:

• Delayed Medicaid Denials: If you applied during open enrollment, but were found ineligible for Medicaid or All Kids after March 31st.

• System Errors Related to Immigration Status: Errors by the healthcare.gov system may have resulted in an incorrect eligibility result for you based on your immigration status.

• Misrepresentation or Misinformation: If someone assisting you (Navigator, broker or agent) resulted in not enrolling, choosing the wrong plan, or not getting a tax subsidy or cost-sharing reduction.

• Victims of Domestic Abuse: If you are a victim of domestic abuse who was unable to enroll and receive premium tax credits separately from your spouse, you can do so now.

• Exceptional Circumstances: If you faced exceptional circumstances that stopped you from finishing your enrollment on time [i.e. a natural disaster or medical emergency].

If you should qualify for a SEP, call the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596 and state clearly that you believe you qualify for a special enrollment period.

LOVING GODJanuary • Deuteronomy 6:5 (NIV)Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

February • Psalm 119:105-106 (NIV)Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws.

March • John 15:10 (NIV)If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.

April • Romans 14:19 (NIV)Let us therefore make every effort to dowhat leads to peace and to mutualedification.

LIVING GREENMay • Psalm 24:1 (NIV)The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, theworld, and all who live in it.

June • Genesis 1:29-30 (NIV)Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.

July • Job 38:4-7 (NIV)Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundations? Tell me if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footings set or who laid its cornerstone while the morning stars sang together for joy!

August • Deuteronomy 24:19 (NIV)When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf, do not go back to get it. Leave it for the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.

LIBERATING ALLSeptember • Galatians 5:1 (NIV)It is for freedom that Christ set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

October • Galatians 5:13 (NIV)You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in Love.

November • Galatians 3:28 (NIV)There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

December • Luke 4:18-19 (NIV) The spirit of the Lord is on me, because he anointed me to preach good news to the poor, he has sent me to proclaim freedom for the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.
