An Order for Morning Prayer

Trinity Sunday June 7, 2020

Officiant: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come!” Revelation 4:8

A Litany for Peace and Social Justice

In baptism, we promise to “seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbors as ourselves and to strive for justice and peace, and respect the dignity of every human being.” Let us now honor those vows and pray for our nation and for the needs of others throughout the world.

We pray for continued blessings on all peacemakers, on leaders who value peace, and on everyone who promotes nonviolent solutions to conflict. We pray for a speedy end to all violence and warfare around the world.

God of peace and gentleness, Hear our prayer.

We pray for the strength of heart and mind to look beyond ourselves and address the needs of our brothers and sisters throughout the world; for the rural and urban poor; for the rebuilding of our communities; and for an end to the cycles of violence that threaten our future.

God of generosity and compassion, Hear our prayer.

We pray for all nations, that they may live in unity, peace, and concord; and that all people may know justice and enjoy the perfect freedom that only God can give.

God of liberty and freedom, Hear our prayer.

We pray that the Holy Spirit may embrace the most vulnerable members of our society; we pray also for an end to the growing disparity between the rich and poor; for the end of racial and ethnic division and for the grace and courage to strive for economic justice.

God of all gifts and blessings, Hear our prayer.

We pray for an end to racism and racial violence throughout our country and the world; that we will respect all people as precious children of God; and that all forms of discrimination will be forever banished from our hearts, our society, and our laws, and that your reconciling peace will reign.

God of fellowship and equality, Hear our prayer.

We pray for all in positions of authority and for all in public safety and law enforcement, that they will administer justice with calm patience and wise decisions

God of grace and justice, Hear our prayer

We pray for a reverence of creation; that we will have the tools and the will to conserve it; that we will use its bountiful resources in the service of others; and that we will become better stewards of all that has been entrusted to us.

God of nature and the universe, Hear our prayer.

We pray for all immigrants, refugees, and pilgrims from around the world, that they may find a place of welcome and rest, and be treated with fairness, dignity, and respect.

God of outcasts and wanderers, Hear our prayer.

We pray for the sick, the aged and the infirm; for those with physical or mental disabilities; that all may have access to proper health care; and that God’s loving embrace may be felt by all who suffer.

God of comfort and healing, Hear our prayer.

We pray for all prisoners and captives; that a spirit of forgiveness may replace vengeance and retribution; and that we, with all the destitute, lonely, and oppressed, may be restored to the fullness of God’s grace.

God of absolution and mercy, Hear our prayer.

We pray for all children and families, and particularly for the orphaned, neglected, abused, and those who live in fear of violence or disease; that they may be relieved and protected.

God of children and families, Hear our prayer.

We pray for the reconciliation of all people, and for the Church throughout the world, that it may be an instrument of your healing love.

God of outreach and restoration, Hear our prayer.

We pray for all who have died as a result of violence, war, disease or famine, especially those who died because of human blindness, neglect, or hardness of heart.

God of eternal life and resurrecting love, Hear our prayer.

We pray for peace in our communities this day, and commit to you all who work to uphold law and justice. We pray for an end to fear. Bless our streets and cities, so that people may go about their lives in safety and well-being.

God of order and purposed wisdom, Hear our prayer.

We pray for peace that is founded in righteousness; bring near the day when poverty and pain shall end and all the world participate in the peace of heaven.

God of eternal joy and perfect peace, Hear our prayer.

Almighty God, who call people from every nation to be a light to the nations; Watch over our country now and in the days ahead, guide our leaders in all knowledge and truth, and make your ways known among all people. Grant your people quiet spirits and courageous hearts. Accompany us and lead us as we move from the desert through to the land of promise where all your people will gather together in peace. AMEN.

Confession of Sin Officiant: Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. Silence may be kept.

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Officiant: Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen.

Officiant: Lord, open our lips. People: And our mouth shall proclaim your praise. All: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it

was in the beginning is now and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

Psalm: 8 (Said in unison.) BCP, Page 592

1 O Lord our Governor, * how exalted is your Name in all the world! 2 Out of the mouths of infants and children * your majesty is praised above the heavens. 3 You have set up a stronghold against your adversaries, * to quell the enemy and the avenger. 4 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, * the moon and the stars you have set in their courses, 5 What is man that you should be mindful of him? * the son of man that you should seek him out? 6 You have made him but little lower than the angels; * you adorn him with glory and honor; 7 You give him mastery over the works of your hands; * you put all things under his feet: 8 All sheep and oxen, * even the wild beasts of the field, 9 The birds of the air, the fish of the sea, * and whatsoever walks in the paths of the sea. 10 O Lord our Governor, * how exalted is your Name in all the world!

Officiant and People

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

First Lesson A Reading from Genesis. (1:1-2:4a)

In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. And God said, “Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” So God made the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that were above the dome. And it was so. God called the dome Sky. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day. And God said, “Let the waters under the sky be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let the earth put forth vegetation: plants yielding seed, and fruit trees of every kind on earth that bear fruit with the seed in it.” And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation: plants yielding seed of every kind, and

trees of every kind bearing fruit with the seed in it. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the third day. And God said, “Let there be lights in the dome of the sky to separate the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years, and let them be lights in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. God set them in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day. And God said, “Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the dome of the sky.” So God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, of every kind, with which the waters swarm, and every winged bird of every kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day. And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and creeping things and wild animals of the earth of every kind.” And it was so. God made the wild animals of the earth of every kind, and the cattle of every kind, and everything that creeps upon the ground of every kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.” So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.” God said, “See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their multitude. And on the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation. These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created. Reader: The Word of the Lord.

People: Thanks be to God.

Canticle 16: The Song of Zechariah Benedictus Dominus Deus Luke 1: 68-79 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; * he has come to his people and set them free. He has raised up for us a mighty savior, * born of the house of his servant David. Through his holy prophets he promised of old, that he would save us from our enemies, * from the hands of all who hate us. He promised to show mercy to our fathers * and to remember his holy covenant. This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham, * to set us free from the hands of our enemies, Free to worship him without fear, * holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life. You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High, * for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way, To give his people knowledge of salvation * by the forgiveness of their sins. In the tender compassion of our God * the dawn from on high shall break upon us, To shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, * and to guide our feet into the way of peace. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: * as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Second Lesson A Reading from Second Corinthians. (13:11-13)

Finally, brothers and sisters, farewell. Put things in order, listen to my appeal, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

Third Lesson

A Reading from the Gospel According to Matthew. (28:16-20) The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

A Collect for the Renewal of Life O God, the King eternal, whose light divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into the morning: Drive far from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that, having done your will with cheerfulness during the day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Collect for Peace O God, the author of peace and lover of concord, to know you is eternal life and to serve you is perfect freedom: Defend us, your humble servants, in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in your defense, may not fear the power of any adversaries; through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

When you are discharged from the hospital, please call the office and let us know as the hospitals will not inform us of your discharge whether to home or to another facility.

Parish Prayer List: To add to the prayer list, please call the church office. We update on a monthly basis after which names will be dropped unless otherwise notified.

Mailing Days: 2nd Thursday of the month, “Ministry” mailings such as special events, stewardship, etc.

Deadlines for these are on the 2nd Monday of the month. 4th Thursday of the month, Glad Tidings.

Current and Upcoming

PARISH

All Parish Notice: Please be advised that under Bishop Kevin Nichols direction, we have ceased all in person worship and meetings until further notice. The Vestry has been organized as the “Reopening Task Group.” See the e-newsletter and our website for more information. In the meantime, all parish functions will continue with appropriate precautions in place or online. Please watch our web page, facebook as well as for emails from us and from the Diocese of Bethlehem for updates and information. If you have any questions, please contact the parish office.

Stay Connected with Each Other: Please remember to check on those who are most at risk, the elderly, the homebound, and those whose jobs put them at the front-line of our community’s response. Pray for those with the Coronavirus, those who are at risk, those tending the sick, and those researching a vaccine and a better way of handling this.

Please Let Us Care For You: If you are ill in the hospital or at home, please call the Parish Office: 610-253-0792 and let us know (or have a family member or friend do it for you) so that we can hold you in prayer, visit you, bring the Sacraments, and provide you with pastoral care. Both St. Luke's and Lehigh Valley Health Network will allow clergy visits in cases of emergency only during the COVID-19 situation. It is essential that you let us know if you are being hospitalized. In some cases, when access is limited, the clergy (Fr. Andrew, Fr. Raymond, or Deacon Fran) will coordinate with the Pastoral Care staffs of the various hospitals for visits. If at all possible, please let the clergy know in advance so that we may meet you for anointing and the Sacrament of the Sick before you are admitted or go in for your procedure. Likewise, let us know when you are discharged from the hospital, transferred to rehab, or sent home. Hospitals will not inform us of a discharge or to where a patient is sent after they leave the hospital. Please note that during this time, Lay Eucharistic Visitors will not be visiting either in homes, hospitals, or skilled nursing facilities. If a visit is needed, contact one of the clergy or call the office.

An Update from the Thrive Committee: The Trinity Parish Vitality Survey is complete! However, the Thrive Committee has decided to delay its release until after we have updated our parish e-mail list, which is important for ensuring that the digital version reaches as many parishioners as possible. You can assist this process by contacting the Trinity office at 610-253-0792, or reach out to Pat Romano at [email protected] or Antonia Grifo at [email protected], to update your contact

Once we are confident that all contact information is up to date, and depending on when the Parish re-opens, the Thrive Committee will send the survey out. Though these are difficult and frightening times, we will soon come together once again to build anew on Trinity Easton’s legacy of living and sharing God’s love. What a glorious day to look forward to! In Christ, The Thrive Committee

Ark Soup Kitchen Re-Opened as Grab-n-Go May 30th: Hallelujah! Our Mission to help those in need was a success! We will continue our community meals every Saturday, serving Grab-n-Go meals from our porch window, using our dedicated Kitchen Crew from our parish: Fred Crivellaro, Richelle Hauanio, Terry Gangaware and Julie Bragg. They will follow CDC guidelines to protect our clients and each other. Volunteer groups are signed up through June and are now scheduling into July. For now, we are serving cold meals and each group may have their own ideas about what each bag will contain. If you have any questions, call Gretchen Reed at 484-695-1476.

Trinity Sunday

Genesis 1:1-2:4a

We begin today’s readings with the opening of the first book of the Bible and its poetic account of the origin of all things in the will of the God, who is Creator of all that is, seen and unseen.

2 Corinthians 13:11-13

Paul ends this letter with the full form of his customary blessing. These simple Trinitarian words, of grace, love, and communion have been familiar in every church in every century.

Matthew 28:16-20

Matthew ends his Gospel with the promise that Christ is always with us. The disciples are commissioned to carry Christ’s own healing love, to make new disciples, and baptize them as the church has done ever since, in the name of the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

‘Agnus Day’ by Pastor Jim Wetzstein

If the Godhead had a social media profile.

A Stewardship Reflection…

2 Corinthians concludes: “and remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Family and

friends may fail us; life may be full of trials and temptations; other groups may not live up to our

expectations. But God never fails – He remains the rock of our hope and salvation. He is always

present and ready to undergird our lives and faith…all we have to do is ask. What a gift!
