Trinity Sunday (Cycle C) A Sunday Reflection

This is the great mystery of our faith, one God who is a communion of Love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In the name of this Triune God we were baptized and commanded to go forth and make disciples of all nations.

Every time we sign ourselves with the sign of the Cross, we recall this great mystery and our baptism. It is said that when Our Lady appeared at Lourdes, she made the sign of the Cross with such reverence that Bernadette was moved to imitate her ever after.

Let us make the sign of the Cross with reverence and devotion, recalling that through baptism the Holy Trinity dwells in us. Let us go out and make disciples in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

As all of you know, Fr. Damian has been assigned as Parochial Administrator at St. Mary Magdalen in Sunny Isles. Thank you, Father, for all your years of service to our community. God go with you.

On this Father’s Day, I ask the Father “from whom every family on heaven and on earth is named” (Eph 3:15) to bless all our fathers and keep them in His loving care. Happy Father’s Day! God bless you!

Reflexión Dominical Este es el gran misterio de nuestra fe, un Dios que es comunión

de Amor: Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo. En el nombre de este Dios trino fuimos bautizados y se nos envió a hacer discípulos de todos los pueblos.

Cada vez que hacemos la señal de la Cruz, recordamos este gran misterio y nuestro propio bautismo. Cuentan que cuando la Santísima Virgen se apareció en Lourdes, hizo la señal de la Cruz con tal reverencia que Bernardita trató de imitarla por el resto de su vida.

Hagamos la señal de la Cruz con reverencia y devoción, recordando que por el bautismo la Santísima Trinidad habita en nosotros. Salgamos a hacer discípulos en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo.

Como todos saben, el P. Damian ha sido asignado administrador parroquial de St. Mary Magdalen en Sunny Isles. Gracias, Padre, por sus años de servicio a nuestra comunidad. Que Dios lo acompañe.

En este Día del Padre, ruego al Padre “de quien procede toda paternidad en el cielo y en la tierra” (Ef 3,15) que bendiga a nuestros padres y los guarde en Su amor. ¡Feliz Día del Padre! Dios los bendiga.

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of

the Holy Spirit The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of the

Christian faith and life. It is the mystery of God in himself. It is therefore the source of all the other mysteries of faith, the light that enlightens them….The whole history of salvation is identical with the history of the way and the means by which the one true God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, reveals himself to men (CCC 234).

By calling God “Father”, the language of faith indicates two main things: that God is the first origin of everything and transcendent authority; and that he is at the same time goodness and loving care for all his children (CCC 239).

Jesus revealed that God is Father in an unheard of sense: he is Father not only in being Creator; he is eternally Father by his relationship to his only Son who, reciprocally, is Son only in relation to his Father…. For this reason the apostles confess Jesus to be the Word … “and the Word was God” (Jn1:1), as “the image of the invisible God” (Col 1:15); as the “radiance of the glory of God and the very stamp of his nature” (Heb 1:3) (CCC 240, 241).

Before his Passover, Jesus announced the sending of “another Paraclete” (Advocate), the Holy Spirit (Jn 14:17). At work since creation, having previously “spoken through the prophets” (Nicene Creed), the Spirit will now be with and in the disciples to teach them and guide them “into all the truth” (Jn 16:13) (CCC 243).

El misterio de la Santísima Trinidad es el misterio central de la fe y de la vida cristiana. Es el misterio de Dios en sí mismo. Es, pues la fuente de todos los otros misterios de la fe; la luz que los ilumina. (…) Toda la historia de la salvación no es otra cosa que la historia del camino y los medios por los cuales el Dios verdadero, Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo, se revela a los hombres (CIC 234).

Al designar a Dios con el nombre de “Padre”, el lenguaje de la fe indica principalmente dos aspectos: que Dios es origen primero de todo y autoridad trascendente y que es al mismo tiempo bondad y solicitud amorosa para todos sus hijos (CIC 239).

Jesús ha revelado que Dios es “Padre” en un sentido nuevo: no lo es solo en cuanto Creador; Él es eternamente Padre en relación a su Hijo único, el cual eternamente es Hijo solo en relación a su Padre (…) Por eso los apóstoles confiesan a Jesús como el “Verbo que era Dios” (Jn 1,1), como la “imagen del Dios invisible” (Col 1, 15), como “el resplandor de su gloria y la impronta de su esencia” (Heb 1,3) (CIC 240, 241).

Antes de su Pascua, Jesús anuncia el envío de “otro Paráclito” (Defensor), el Espíritu Santo (Jn 14,17). Este que actuó ya en la Creación y “por los profetas” (Credo de Nicea), estará ahora junto a los discípulos y en ellos, para enseñarles y conducirlos “hasta la verdad completa” (Jn 16, 13) (CIC 243).

Holy Lives /Vidas Santas VENERABLE DONIZETTI TAVARES DE LIMA (1882-1961)

— A diocesan priest from Brazil, Fr. Donizetti owes his name to his father’s passion for music. As a priest, he carried out an intense apostolic work with a strong social dimension, affirming that love of God and love of neighbor can never be separated.

He shared in his people’s problems, defending the poor and the workers against the abuses of the powerful. He helped the elderly, the sick, children and poor mothers, always invoking the intercession of Our Lady of Aparecida.

Fr. Donizetti built the parish church and two chapels in Tambaú, where he was pastor until his death. He led an austere life dedicated to being poor in both spirit and in the material sense following his desire to live like the poor did. He died in Tambaú in 1961.

A miracle attributed to his intercession has been approved, and he will be beatified in Tambaú in December of this year.

.VENERABLE DONIZETTI TAVARES DE LIMA (1882-1961) — Sacerdote diocesano de Brasil, el P. Donizetti debe su nombre a la pasión de su padre por la música. Como párroco desarrolló una intensa actividad evangelizadora marcada por una fuerte dimensión social, afirmando que el amor a Dios y al prójimo nunca van separados.

Compartió los problemas de su pueblo, defendiendo a los pobres y a los trabajadores contra los abusos de los poderosos. Ayudó a los pobres, los enfermos, los niños y las madres necesitadas, invocando siempre la intercesión de Nuestra Señora Aparecida.

El P. Donizetti construyó la iglesia parroquial y dos capillas más en Tambaú, donde fue párroco hasta su muerte. Llevó una vida austera dedicada a hacerse pobre tanto en el sentido material como con gran pobreza de espíritu, siguiendo su deseo de vivir como los pobres. Murió en Tambaú en 1961.

Se ha aprobado un milagro atribuido a su intercesión y será beatificado en diciembre de este año en Tambaú.

Catechesis on the Our Father, February 20, 2019

The first step of every Christian prayer is the entry into a mystery, that of the fatherhood of God. One cannot pray like parrots. Either you enter into the

mystery, in the awareness that God is your Father, or you do not pray…. God’s love is that of the Father ‘who art in Heaven’,

according to the expression that Jesus invites us to use: he is the total love that we can savour only imperfectly in this life…. No one should doubt being the recipient of this love. He loves us. We can say: “He loves me”…. There is a God in heaven who loves us like

no one else in this world ever has or ever can. God’s love is constant…. Even if all our earthly loves were to crumble and we were left with nothing but dust in our hands; God’s unique and

faithful love is always burning for all of us.

The hunger for love that we all feel is not a yearning for something nonexistent: it is instead an invitation to know God who is father. The expression “in Heaven” is not

intended to express a distance, but rather a radical difference of love, another dimension of love, a tireless love, a love that will always be there, that is always at hand.

Catequesis sobre el Padre Nuestro, 20 de febrero de 2019

El primer paso de cada oración cristiana es el ingreso en un misterio, el de la paternidad de Dios. No se puede rezar como cotorras. O tú entras en el misterio, en la certeza de que Dios es tu Padre o no rezas… el amor de Dios es el del Padre «que está en los cielos», según la expresión que nos invita a usar Jesús: es el amor total que en esta vida solo saboreamos de manera imperfecta…Nadie debe dudar que es destinatario de este amor. Nos ama. «Me ama», podemos decir ... Hay un Dios en el cielo que nos ama como nadie en la tierra nunca lo ha hecho ni lo podrá hacer. El amor de Dios es constante ... Si todos nuestros amores terrenales se desmoronasen, y no quedase nada más que polvo, siempre queda para todos nosotros, ardiente, el amor único y fiel de Dios.

En el hambre de amor que todos sentimos, no buscamos algo que no existe: es, en cambio, la invitación a conocer a Dios que es padre…. La frase «en los cielos» no quiere expresar una distancia, sino una diferencia radical de amor, otra dimensión de amor, un amor incansable, un amor que permanecerá siempre, todavía más, que está al alcance de la mano.

By standing we assume our full stature in Christ not in pride, but in humble gratitude for the marvelous things God has done for us.
