Trinity Lutheran Church strives to connect people to Jesus by
demonstrating God’s unconditional love.
Love God boldly, Grow in faith continually, Serve others joyfully.
TWELFTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST August 12, 2018
IN OUR PRAYERS: God invites us to cast all our cares and worries upon Him because
He cares for us. Today we cast upon God those who are sick, awaiting surgery or
recovering, especially Duane Castle, Gunard Heikkila, Randy Windels, Lillian Wallgren,
Yvonne Huttunen, Connie Wallgren, Kristine Barker, Ralph Schwartz, Gene Imsande,
Dan Cresswell, Paul Ebnet, Ron Ruther, Greg Mickelson, Jann Lee, Jim Wallgren,
Madella Siirila, Susan Hintzman, Connie Wallgren and Clarence Siebels. We pray for
God’s comfort for the families and friends of Lew Hanson, Sharon Munson and David
Meyer. We ask for God’s blessing upon Carol Hudalla and Brandon Bernu who were
united in marriage yesterday.
AS WE GATHER: There is a great divide—a notable difference—between what we were
before being given new life through Baptism and what we are now, recipients of God’s
forgiving love in Christ. In today’s Epistle, Paul lists the characteristics of any Christian who
is reflecting that love. It is not a list commending our successful reflections of our new
nature, but a series of exhortations, writing, “Let us . . .” There is only one source of hope as
we struggle—our Lord. We have been baptized into the Body of Christ, and at each
reception of the Lord’s Supper we are strengthened to show the new person He has called
us to be. As Elijah was strengthened by miraculous food and went on toward Horeb, the
mount of God, so we are assured of God’s forgiveness as we receive Christ’s body and
blood in the Lord’s Supper. He is the bread of life from heaven, who enables each of us to
discard our old ways, live in the new life of God’s forgiving love, and adorn ourselves with
gladness.
READINGS: 1 Kings 19:1–8, Ephesians 4:17–5:2, John 6:35–51

waters of baptism, Finley Erwin Vaughan. His father and mother are Jordan and
kaylee. His sponsors are Mike and Melissa Owen and Kim and Leonard Stafki.

I am a Lutheran pastor, singer/songwriter fingerstyle guitarist, and humorist who proclaims the Gospel in music and story.
As a pastor, I have served parishes in North Dakota, Alaska and Minnesota, and
spent three years as a US Navy Chaplain on active duty in the Pacific.
Since 2008 my wife, Sabra, and I have lived full-time on the road calling our 5th wheel trailer home. Our mission is twofold to serve as a resource with others in their ministries and present original scripture-based music that will direct your attention to the riches of the Gospel through lyrics that teach and music that brings peace.
We invite you to partner with us by praying for those who will hear this music
and praying for us as we travel. You can support our ministry with your donation
today and by purchasing CD’s of original music, some of which you will hear
today.
