Trinity Lutheran Church and School To reach up in worship, reach out through evangelism, and reach in by discipleship
Church Announcements For The Week of December 6, 2015
THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION AT TRINITY: The Lord’s Supper is celebrated in this congregation in the belief and confidence that in this Sac-
rament, Christ is truly present, giving us His body and blood, in, with and under the forms of
bread and wine (1 Corinthians 10:16, Mark 14:22-24). As Christians (and specifically as Mis-
souri Synod Lutherans), we believe that it is through Jesus Christ alone that we have the hope of
eternal life. We believe that we are sinners in need of forgiveness and that in the Lord’s Supper, God gives that for-
giveness, strengthens our faith, and strengthens our union with Him and each other (Romans 3:23, Matthew 26:26-
28). As Christians, we also believe that as we come to the Lord’s Supper, we are making a commitment to amend our
sinful lives with the help of the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 2:19, Romans 8:6).
GUESTS AND VISITORS: Because those who eat and drink our Lord’s body and blood unworthily do so to their
harm and because Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet
instructed or confirmed, or who hold to a doctrinal position differing from that of this congregation and the Lutheran
Church - Missouri Synod, and yet desire to receive the sacrament, are asked first to speak with the pastor (1 Corin-
thians 11:27-29). At Trinity we practice Close Communion as adopted by our Synod in Convention.
ALCOHOL CONTENT IN WINE: The “red” wine in the chalice and in the outer rings of the communion cup tray
contains alcohol. The “white” wine in the center of the tray is de-alcoholized wine (alcohol nearly 100% removed).
You may use the red or white wine in the tray but please remember that the chalice has only “red” wine with normal
alcohol content.
Q: Typical question asked by visitors: Can only LCMS members take communion at Trinity Burr Ridge? A: The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod has never understood or applied the historic practice of close[d]
Communion in such a way as to mean that only LCMS members are permitted to commune at LCMS altars.
The official position of the Synod is that not only are members of other Lutheran churches with whom we are in altar
and pulpit fellowship invited to commune with us, but also that in certain extraordinary cases of pastoral care and in
emergencies members of churches not in fellowship with us may be given Communion. The Synod stated, for exam-
ple, in 1986 "that pastors and congregations of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod continue to abide by the prac-
tice of close Communion, which includes the necessity of exercising responsible pastoral care in extraordinary situa-
tions and circumstances" (1986 Res. 3-08 "To Maintain Practice of Close Communion"). Please see
www.lcms.org for more information.
Gluten Free Communion Wafers Available Upon Request ~ Please request from Pastor Bob at least

SPECIAL GUEST CHOIR As a part of our 150th Anniversary year-long celebration, we have invited the "Evangelii" choir to sing at the 8:30am service TODAY. That day marks the dedication of Trinity's first church building. This excellent choir, under the direction of Jim
Marriott, and based at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisle, is made up of fifteen to twenty 5th to 12th graders.
Today, the flowers are placed on God’s altar
by the Schaefer Family in loving memory
of William Schaefer.
Prayer Before Worship O Lord, my creator, redeemer, and
comforter, as I come to worship
You in spirit and in truth, I humbly
pray that You would open my heart
to the preaching of Your Word so
that I may repent of my sins, be-
lieve in Jesus Christ as my Savior
and grow in grace and
holiness. Hear me for
the sake of His name.
Amen

ture that highlights an Advent activity that will prepare us for Christ’s coming among us as a
baby in Bethlehem. Hymns in the series include “On Jordan’s Bank the Baptist’s Cry,” “Let the
Earth Now Praise the Lord,” “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus” and “The King Shall Come
When Morning Dawns.”

of Christ’s birth, and echoes through our lives today as a melody of rejoicing.

COME AND JOIN THE BELL AND/OR SANCTUARY CHOIRS!!!
The Bell Choir plays in church, at the 8:30am services only, about once a month, and we have weekly rehearsals. The Bell Choir rehearsals will be on Wednesday evenings in the church narthex from 6:30 to 7:15pm.
The ability to read music is not required, but helpful, and anyone high school age and beyond is most welcome to join us!
The Sanctuary Choir sings in church, at the 8:30am services only, and also has Wednesday evening rehearsals, in the church balcony, from 7:30 to 8:15pm. We sing in unison, 2-part and 4-part harmony
formats, and all voice parts are needed and welcome! We sing anthems from the 16th Century right up to the present, and, WE HAVE LOTS OF FUN! I am also considering a new choir!
The Bella Voce Choir, consisting of soprano and alto voices only. If this new choir comes to fruition, they
would sing in church about once a month. The ability to read music, is helpful, but not required, and anyone high school age and beyond is most welcome to join us! If you are at all interested or have any questions,
please contact me! We would love to have you join us as we serve our God together! Howard Eggert

College / University Ministry: Is your son or daughter away at college or a university? We would like to
pray for them and include them in our ministry by mail program. Recently I read that most college/
university students walk away from their Christian faith unless they are connected with at least five other
Christians who pray and reach out to them while they are away. We would like to be "one of the five" that
reaches out to your son or daughter. Will you provide us with the name(s) of your student, the college they
are attending and their address? We will include them in our prayers and in our ministry by mail. Please
send or give the names of your students to me by email or by phone t [email protected] / 708-839-1200 x3. Thanks! -

2015-16 theme: Grace Alone – Life Together “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of
works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
Happy New Year
This week is the first week of Advent. Advent is a noun and its meaning is “the arrival of a notable person,
thing or event.” Advent is derived from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming,” which is a translation
of the Greek word parousia. In the Christian church it is the beginning of the New Year, leading up to
Christmas and including the four preceding Sundays. It also signifies the coming or second coming of Christ.
During Advent we are told to prepare for the coming of Christ. How do you prepare? Do you focus on Christmas and all that
is going on? Or, do you focus on the birth of Christ and its meaning? You can do both! But to do this you cannot become
dizzy focusing on all the many distractions around you.
A few years ago, Adrienne and I sat in row one of the Nutcracker Ballet. It was my first time seeing the production live. I
was amazed at the athleticism of the dancers. Ballerina’s use a technique called Spotting Point during the execution of many
turns. The goal of ‘spotting’ is to attain a constant orientation of the dancer’s head and eyes to prevent dizziness. While their
bodies rotate smoothly at a constant speed, the head rotates much faster, then stops, so to fix the dancer’s gaze on a single
location.
This Advent season keep your eyes focused on the coming of Christ to prevent Holiday dizziness.

Are you tired of being a couch potato?
Looking for a way to work out at NO COST to you? Come out to volleyball in the
Trinity Lutheran school gym! We meet every Monday, at 7:15 pm and play for approximately an hour
and a half. You don't have to be good, just willing to have some fun and perhaps brush up on a few
skills. Everyone 18 or older is invited. It's also a great way to help a friend become familiar with our
school and church. If you can't come every Monday, just come when you can. We do not play on nights
when there is a voter’s meeting scheduled so check the church calendar on our website at: http://www.tlbr.org/ to confirm
scheduled dates. If you have questions, call Keith Wendte at 630-455-1775. See you there!
