Throughout the Bible we learn that God calls us to be in relationship with Him and in community with others so that we may be the Church the Body of Christ. And although God does not NEED a relationship with us, God WANTS a relationship with us. Do you find yourself talking with God as naturally as you would talk to a close friend or spouse? This is one key aspect of prayer that is life-changing. If you would like to take part in a study and practice of prayer, please join us in the Trinity Sunday School Class as we seek to build deeper relationships with God, ourselves and one another. We will spend time each week discussing and developing the key means by which we grow more intimate with God. What would it be like to approach God with our whole selves: body, soul, and spirit? Join us and let’s find out together. Prayer Boxes We are in prayer for needs within TAPC and our community. Prayer Boxes are located inside the Main Narthex, the Carr Narthex, and outside the Chapel, along with blank cards for prayer requests. Feel free to be as specific or as anonymous as you’d like in completing the prayer cards, and know that your request will receive prayerful attention from members of TAPC’s staand Bible study groups. We will enjoy a golf tournament, starting at 8:00am. At 4:30pm, we will gather at the church for a wonderful time of fun, food (chili and cornbread!), a bake sale, and an auction. Most importantly, we will be enjoying each other and participating in an event that will raise funds to support Williams Square, and to support the wonderful faces we meet in our community. Peace, Donovan “Hear the Good News! The bad economy can’t stop the light from shining in the darkness! There are people in this world who remember that the King of Kings can be found in the faces they meet.” These are the words that I wrote last year, after visiting Housing for New Hope and the Durham Rescue Mission with checks of nearly $10,000, all made possible by your participation in TAPC’s Fall Festival. This event, which was originally conceived as simply a fun time to spend together, became an incredible opportunity to share with others. Another $10,000 went toward the Habitat for Humanity house that TAPC is helping to construct right now. Checks of $2500 were sent to Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, the Food Bank, and our local chapter of the American Red Cross. The 2009 Fall Festival will be on Saturday, October 17th, from 4:30pm to 8:30pm. This year, a large part of the proceeds will support the building of four residential units at Williams Square, a new 24-unit apartment complex for graduates of Housing For more information about the Fall Festival, contact Beth Scoggins. Please purchase your tickets in advance (in the Carr Narthex on the first two Sundays in October) to help the planners ensure that we have enough food, tables, chairs, etc., for everyone. If you want to donate an auction item, please contact Judy Wooden or Suzanne Freeman as soon as possible.

Children’s NewsChildren’s Communion Class ~ Join Elizabeth and Sloan on October 4th at 4:30pm in the chapel for a class on communion. Parents, children, and older/younger siblings are invited. We will explore why and how we take communion, with the hope of creating more meaningful participation during worship services. After class, we will enjoy a meal together. Please let Sloan know if your family will attend.

Children’s Sabbath ~ On October 18th, TAPC will participate in Children’s Sabbath – a day when we recognize and honor all of God’s children. Our children will assist in leading worship for the day.

Children’s Outreach Project ~ The children of TAPC are excited about forming a partnership with the Scarborough Nursery School located across from Genesis House and the main library. The Scarborough Nursery School serves close to 80 children, from newborns to 4 year olds. TAPC will hold a casserole and bake sale to raise funds and will donate needed items throughout the year. Look for more information on how you can help by donating materials, making a casserole, or reading to a child at the Nursery School.

Youth NewsYouth mission work is the work of the church! Adults are welcomed and encouraged to serve alongside our outstanding young people. Please contact Nathan Peifer if you would like to join us in the field!

Schedule of Congregant Leadership

WEDNESDAY NIGHT LITEOctober 7th TAPC’s own Stuart Albright, who works as a creative writing teacher and football coach at Jordan High School, will talk about his new book, Sidelines. The News and Observer says this is “a remarkable book. . .[Albright] uses high school football to examine North Carolina, its people and its history. . . The culture goes far beyond wins and losses and reaches into the soul of the community.”

October 14th Join us to hear from Kevin McDonald, President and Founder of Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers, (TROSA), a nationally recognized residential recovery program located at 1820 James Street in Durham. TROSA community programs include lawn care and maintenance, moving, contract labor, a frame shop, furniture sales, and a grocery store.

 2009 Yam JamSaturday, October 10th

Youth and adults from Westminster, First, Mt. Bethel, and Trinity Avenue Presbyterian churches will gather together early in the morning to glean sweet potatoes from a local farm. The potatoes feed thousands of people around the Triangle! Our hands will help make it happen! Planning way ahead.....Mark your calendars for the PDA High School Youth Mission Trip to Houma, Louisiana (June 26th to July 3rd, 2010).
