ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES
NUMBER OF TASKS
Studentswillbeassessedformallyandinformallytoensurelearningisattheforefrontofteaching.Therewillbebetweentwoandfourcommonformalassessmenttaskspersubjectpersemester.Thesetaskswillbeusedtoallocategradesonreports.Detailsofspecificformalassessmenttaskshavebeenincludedinthishandbook.Theapproximatedateofeachtaskisalsoprovided.Studentswillbegivenregularopportunitiestodemonstratetheirskillsandknowledgeinobtainingtheoutcomesofthecourse.Thistypeofassessmentisongoing.Itcantaketheformofquizzes,topictests,classdiscussions,groupworkactivities,teacherobservation,surveys,journals,andmanyothermethods.

NOTIFICATION OF ASSESSMENTS Eachtermanassessmentcalendarisprovidedtostudents.Inaddition,teachersofeachsubjectwillprovidethestudentswithanassessmentnotificationatleasttwoweekspriortotheduedate.Thisnotificationwillprovide:

IN‐CLASS ASSESSMENT TASKS AND EXAMINATIONS
Studentsareexpectedtobringallrequiredequipmenttoexaminationsandin‐classtests.Studentswillnotbeallowedtoborrowequipment.Astudentwillnotbeentitledtomoremarksiftheydonothavetheapparatusrequiredtoperformthetest.
Normalexaminationconditionswillapplyforallin‐classandformalexaminations.
Studentsareexpectedtobepresentfromthestartoftheschooldaywhenteststyle
assessmenttasksorexaminationsarescheduled.Astudent,whoarriveslate,withoutavalidreason,maybedeemedtohavegainedanadvantagebytakingextratimetoprepareforthetaskandpenaltieswillapply.

ABSENCE ON DUE DATE OF TASK OR DATE OF EXAMINATION Studentswhoareabsentonthedayofanin‐classtaskorexaminationwillbeexpectedtocompletethetaskintheirnextlessontime.StudentswhoareabsentontheduedateofanassessmenttaskmusthandthetaskintotheirteacherortheAssistantHeadofDepartmentthedaytheyreturntoschool.Ifthestudentknowstheywillbeabsentinadvancetheymustendeavourtohandthetaskinearly.Anystudentwhodisplaysapatternofabsencewhentasksareduewillberequiredtoprovidemedicalcertificatesdetailingtheirreasonsforabsence.
FAILURE TO HAND IN TASKS Ifanassessmenttaskishandedinlatewithoutavalidreasonthestudentwilllose20%ofthevalueofthetaskperday.Thefollowingprocedureisinplaceforlatetasks:IFTASKISNOTHANDEDINONTHEDUEDATE

*N determination -This is the decision made by the Principal at the end of the course, under delegated authority from the Board, that a student has not satisfactorily completed a course. Students who have not complied with the course completion criteria and who have received at least two written warnings can be regarded as not having satisfactorily completed the course at the time of finalising grades. The Principal may then apply the ‘N’ determination

RESULTS AND FEEDBACK Studentswillbegivenmeaningfulfeedbackontheirperformance.Thiswilltaketheformofagradeormarkandcommentsaboutareasofsuccessandareasforimprovement.Anyqueriesaboutmarksmayonlybemadeatthetimetasksarereturned.ThemarksfortasksarecombinedinaccordancewiththeweightingsgivenlaterinthebooklettoformtheSemesterGradeonthereport.TheseSemesterReportswillindicateprogresswithanAtoErating.
PLAGIARISM AND CHEATING Cheatingduringanexaminationorin‐classtaskwillresultinthecancellationofthepaperandamarkofzerobeingawarded.Likewise,provendishonestyinrelationtootherassessmenttaskswillresultinazeromark.PlagiarismincludescutandpastefromtheInternet,copyinganotherstudent’swork,copyingfromabook,andusingteacher’snotes,withoutacknowledgingthesource.Ifahandintaskisproventobeplagiarisedthestudentwillreceivezeroandmustre‐dothetask.
