PSALM 27:1-6 (NIV)
1The LORD is my light and my salvaon
whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strong-
hold of my life of whom shall I be afraid?2When evil men advance against me to de-
vour my esh, when my enemies and my
foes aack me, they will stumble and fall.3Though an army besiege me, my heart will
not fear; though war break out against me,
even then I will be condent.
4One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I
seek: that I may dwell in the house of the
LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the
beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his
temple. 5For in the day of trouble he will
keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hideme in the shelter of his tabernacle and set
me high upon a rock.
6Then my head will be exalted above the en-
emies who surround me; at his tabernacle I
will sacrice with shouts of joy; I will singand make music to the LORD.

THE NEED FOR LOVE CONTINUESBy Rev. Rochelle A. Stackhouse
An angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, Get upMhw 2:13
Christmas and all the surrounding hoopla are over, and it is very tempng to just sit back, digest the sea-
son, and rest from giving for a while. There are credit card bills to pay, trees to take down, and houses to
clean, and that seems enough for January.
The thing about babies, though, is that they connue to need all sorts of care, and we have just celebrated
the birth of a baby! Joseph was called to ee with Mary and the infant Jesus to save him from Herods
dangerous fear. Mary needed to feed him, change him, and rock him to sleep as they traveled. Seasons
change, but the need for love connues.
And thats what giving springs from, is it not? Love. Parents, foster parents, grandparents, godparents,
churches, and all who care for children connue to give to them in season and out because they love
them. God remembers what it is like to be a child! Consider the children of your church and of your town;
what kind of love do they call forth from you today? How can we connue our Christmas love of children
all through the new year?
Rochelle A. Stackhouse is the Senior Minister of The Church of the Redeemer, United Church of Christ, New
Haven Conneccut.

BE SAFE IN YOUR HOME
You can face safety risks if you are unable to pay your home energy bills. Some people resort
to unsafe methods to keep their homes warm or cool. These include the use of replaces,
stoves, improperly vented portable heaters, barbecue grills, or overloading electrical circuits.
These methods are not only re hazards, but also create the risk of carbon monoxidepoisoning.
IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY YOUR HOME ENERGY BILL, YOUR HOME MAY NOT BE SAFE,
AND YOU MAY BE AT RISK OF SERIOUS ILLNESS OR INJURY.
THE LOW INCOME HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (LIHEAP) MAY BE ABLE TO HELPKEEP YOU AND YOUR FAMILY SAFE AND HEALTHY.
WHAT IS LIHEAP?
LIHEAP is a federally-funded program that helps low-income households with their home
energy bills.

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be at your back.
May the sunlight of Jesus Christ grace your cheek,
And may rain gently fall upon your eld.
May God keep you in the hollow
