He followed the Farukhabad gharana of Hindustan classical music.
Performed with vocalists such as Pandit Omkarnath Thakur, Girija Devi and many
others.

Trained over 18,000 students in Bharatnatyam and Kathakali.

She was honored with the national civilian awards

His works are mainly abstracts in oil or acrylic.

He lived and worked in France from 1950, but maintained strong ties with India.

Subramanyan was also a freedom fighter and was imprisoned briefly during the Quit India
Movement.
His paintings experimented with the idea of the
Indian myths.

Subramanyan was also an art historian and his body of work forms a significant document of
Indian art history.
In 1955, he received a British Council Fellowship to Slade School of Art at the University of
London.
