The SMARTEYE®

STEALTH-UV™Luminescence Sensor

The SMARTEYE® STEALTH-UV sensor is aspecial purpose sensor designed to detect thepresence of invisible fluorescent materialscontained in or added to chalks, inks, paint,greases, glue, or optical brighteners found inlabels, paper, tape, string, etc. The sensorcontains an ultraviolet (UV) solid state lightsource that is used to excite the luminescentmaterials to fluoresce in the visible range. Thesensor’s detector then responds to the visiblefluorescing light. When the received fluorescinglight level (displayed on the Contrast Indicator)reaches a level of “4” or above, the NPN andPNP output transistors will switch to the oppositestate.

The SMARTEYE® STEALTH-UV sensor is usefulfor a number of applications including highspeed, invisible, registration mark sensing. Manyclear bags and labels are manufactured with thehighest level of cosmetic sensitivity, making theuse of a standard colored registration marksundesirable. Having the high speed, highlyaccurate sensor available for this applicationensures customer satisfaction and the highestproduction line speeds.

The ability for the SMARTEYE® STEALTH-UVsensor to be used with standard glass fiber opticlight guides is a very cost effective way of gettingthe sensor into tight mechanical positions, orcaustic and harsh environments that would beharmful for standard lensed sensors. Not havingto use extremely high cost "special" fiber opticlight guides for UV detection offers a solution thatis very reasonable compared to the competition.
