WELCOME to Tri-Cities Life!Every home has a story and every story deserves to be told. We love telling these stories and we believe it’s not only important to deliver them in a unique way, but to push ourselves to find new and innovative marketing avenues and techniques that ensure these stories are heard. The latest and greatest marketing or technology fads aren’t always the best way to move a property. Although we use social media and pay attention to marketing trends, we believe a strong network of buyers, sellers and investors builds a solid foundation for our clients. Creating this network is the most important aspect of what we do.What makes Tri-Cities Life different? Well, for one, we believe that outstanding customer service is the tenant of all successful interactions. And we believe that lifestyle is an important, and all too often over-looked, component in the real estate buying or selling equation. So we’ve created a platform to communicate the lifestyle that comes with buying a home in the Tri-Cities. We employ a little bit of a different technique and style than what you may be accustomed to or expect. Come check it out, it may be just what you’ve been looking for! Each quarter we will feature unique eateries, wineries, homes and other subjects that we think will not only strike your fancy, but will show off the luxurious lifestyle of the Tri-Cities. If you have any comments or suggestions for stories that will add value to this new community, let us know! You can find us via the web, at www.Tri-CitiesLife.com or via e-mail: [email protected] Warmest Regards, Steve Lambert and the Tri-Cities Life Team

Red Mountain Trail Rides at KionaMeet at the Kiona Vineyards Horse Rails and experience the extraordinary

Red Mountain Trails Sunset Dinner RideLooking for an extraordinary experience? Then you’ve found it at Red Mountain Trails!Red Mountain Trails offers a spectacular sunset dinner trail ride through the Kiona family vineyards. If I ever needed a reason to go and do some research, this was it! Getting set up for our adventure was easy - one call and we were ready to go.

We drove to Kiona Vineyards, taking the same route as you would for the tasting room. This place is easy to find and has ample parking (always a bonus). Upon our arrival we were met by Jeff, who reviewed all the safety information with us. He thoughtfully provided a short over-view of the evenings activities and expectations, so we were prepared for the adventure to come.

Our Guides and Hostess

We then met our lovely guide, Teresa, as well as our beautiful horses. After spending a few minutes getting acquainted, we sauntered off through the vineyards towards our private dinner table to enjoy a wonderful meal and an awe inspiring sunset.

As we rode along, we couldn’t help but sense the absolute serenity and beauty of the vineyards. Row after row, impeccably ordered and manicured grapes were growing, destined to become world class Washington wines. Kiona family vineyards offers some of the best wines you will find

in the area and their operation and vineyards are first class.

The dinner table was set with all the flair you would expect at a 5 star dinner and a view and ambiance that could not be imitated!

The food was ample, full of variety, and the wine paired beautifully with our evening. We found ourselves mesmerized with the landscape. The sun melted into the hills, delivering a soft touch to the desert we call home.

We enjoyed one last sip of our Kiona wine and summoned our guide for our mild ride back to the hitching rails. This was a night

that we would not soon forget and one we highly recommend.

Red Mountain Trails has also added a NEW S’Mores ride!

Taking friends and family into the vineyards for trail rides and sunset views grew into Red Mountain Trails.

Culinary delights that push new boundaries

When I sat down with Megan and Jason owners of Frost Me Sweet, I was excited to hear their story. I have been enjoying their cupcakes, lunch and dinner entree’s for a while and was curious to find out who was behind it all.

Getting started

It all started with a small space on Thayer Drive in Richland and a big dream to bake. Megan was deciding if she should go to school to be a Physician Assistant or open a bakery. She found herself in a tug of war between the security of a career in the

medical field and her passion, baking. “All I wanted to do was bake, it was all I really thought about and how fun and cool it would be to just bake all the time.”

She and Jason both wanted to open a restaurant someday, so why not go for it? Well they went for it! A couple of bridal shows later the panic set in when they realized they had more orders than they could fill and not enough room in their 300 square foot location. The search was on for a new location and some help.

Quality, Location and Service

The Parkway appealed to both Megan and Jason. Megan’s dream growing up was to have a bakery on The Parkway. Well, that day arrived when they moved into the old S’Movies space on The Parkway and began putting the most creative and wild cupcakes they could think of, up for sale. Wedding cakes and cupcakes were selling like crazy and they were, no pun intended, enjoying the sweet taste of success.

They work hard to source only the best, freshest and local organic foods to bring a wholesome meal to the customer. The passion for the best in what they serve goes well past the plate in front of the customer. They are truly a family with their staff, which has been paramount to their success. The goal is to let people know you can get a great meal with healthy food for a reasonable price. “We feel like we are educators about high quality food as much as we are restaurant owners” notes Megan.

The ability to create that type of atmosphere translates into incredible customer service and high quality food with reasonable prices. They have taken customer service to a new level as well. “If we notice a customer has given us 4 stars on Yelp for a review, we will contact them and ask what we could have done to make it a 5 star experience. You won’t find large chain restaurants doing that”, states Megan. This type of dedication, to being the best you can be, has allowed Frost Me Sweet to grow robustly.

Never settling, they continue to expand their offerings for lunch and dinner. The menu is well thought out, offering seasonal dishes that highlight the fruits and vegetables from around the area as well as various wines and of course, their awe inspiring cupcakes!

Frost Me Sweet has been the recipient of many awards, their most recent being “Chef’s on Parade 2013” as part of the Parade of Homes for 2013.

Megan and Jason welcome you to stop in and enjoy their offerings. You can find their contact information below.

The Clore CenterBringing Washington Wines to the Forefront

We had the opportunity to sit down with Abbey Cameron from The Walter Clore Wine & Culinary Center. Our goal? Gain insight into The Clore Center mission and updates on the new Wine & Culinary Center.

Driving to The Walter Clore Wine & Culinary Center from Tri-Cities, I couldn’t help but notice how the gently rolling hills looked as if they were covered in a soft velvet. Coupled with the acres of vineyards and the Yakima river flowing in the valley

below, you soon realize we live in a pretty spectacular area. Before I knew it, I was exiting the highway to Prosser Washington to take a look around The Clore Center and meet my host Abbey.

Old and New Come Together

The Clore Center is currently operating as the Vineyard Pavilion indoor/outdoor event center which is striking in its elegance and location. It is perched above the Yakima river, providing commanding views of the valley below and the hills above.

The Vineyard Pavilion has provided many a wedding party with a day of unforgettable memories as well as been host to the

popular Prosser Wine & Food Fair many of us around these parts have enjoyed.

You immediately are drawn to the new construction going on to the East of the Vineyard Pavilion, where an educational visitor center that welcomes guests to experience a rotating selection of Washington wines along with programs, seminars and demonstrations to take your wine experience to the next level, is being built.

Exhibits will highlight these tastings and provide you with a glimpse of how Dr. Walter Clore impacted and continues to impact the Washington Wine Industry. A complete demonstration kitchen is also available for chef presentations on wine

room will complete the pavilion and will allow for many types of events to enjoy The Walter Clore Wine & Culinary Center.

Come Enjoy a Unique Experience

The Walter Clore Wine & Culinary Center will be a ‘must see’ upon completion (slated for mid 2014 opening). The ability to learn about the many varieties of wine

that are grown and produced in our area as well as learn about the influential Dr. Walter Clore and his legacy within the wine industry is truly a special gift.

If you haven’t done so already, contact The Clore Center for a tour or a list of upcoming events. You can find them several ways.

Via the web at www.TheCloreCenter.Org or find them on Facebook for the latest updates at Facebook.com/CloreCenter. When you find them on Facebook be sure to ‘Like’ their page to stay up to date on all their happenings. You may even get an invite to some featured events!

Thank you to The Clore Center and Abbey for their time!

Folky music plays in the background, the front door opens, customers come in and out, and I’m surrounded by artwork and clothing that feels alive. I’ve been in and out of luxury retail for over eleven years, and I miss it.

It’s early, on Sunday morning. John Richards, the owner of Jack Straw has just finished a fashion shoot for his new collection, completed the buys for Spring and Summer, and is now vacuuming the back room, after a busy Saturday. I forgot how

busy retail is - how many different things you’re working on at one time.

As we start chatting, I realize that although I’ve known him for years, I’ve never really had a chance to hear his story. He jokes that he’s no spring chicken. He’s 59 years old now, he started the store when he was 55, got married when he was 57, and started a family in his late 50‘s. I’m impressed, as are many of his peers.

Seattle Clothier Jack Straw blends classic looks with a modern twist

How would you describe your journey in the fashion industry?

His eyes sparkle with love and pride as he describes his journey as “Rough. I worked for people for a long time –other people - and really paid my dues. I really learned a lot, kept my ears open, my eyes open, and took in everything I possibly could from my mentors, which is why I’m here today.”

I can tell he means it when he says, “You’re never done paying your dues in retail. It’s a long laboring gig.”

Okay, so fashion for the season, John. What are the trends for fall and winter?

He smiles, points down at his pants and says, “This pair of pants that I’m wearing is my third day in a row. I just put a different shirt and sweater with it.” We’re both laughing now. (And I’m jealous. He looks very comfortable.)

He continues, “I believe clothing is meant to be worn, worn, worn. And if you buy really great clothing, you don’t have to buy as much, and you can just wear it and it will not be out of season next year or ten years after.

Had I renamed the store, I would have named my store “old friend” because that’s what my clothing is about; it’s about clothing you put on and wear and wear and wear.”

The trends on the runway parallel John’s opinion. Everything in New York looked timeless and comfortable this season.

What are Engineered Garments? You have a whole room in your store dedicated to them. People are asking about them. What’s the story?

“Engineered Garments is a collection that is manufactured in New York, and owned and designed by a Japanese man. The owner is almost solely responsible for bringing back Made in America. We carry mens and women's,

and we have a strong cult following for it. We did a collaboration with a Portland Artist Group called Paintallica, and we have improvised sculptures celebrating Engineered Garments being in one sole room in the store. The Engineered Garments Collection is a mixture of rustic Americana with a now presence of Japanese design. It’s really the best of both worlds – the best of the East and best of the West.
