MY BOOK ABOUTCOLONIAL LIFE IN NEW ENGLAND

My mother and father named me Elliot. I was named after my great grandfather. I am 11 years old. I am about 5’ft tall. I live in the colony of New Jersey. I have brown hair, and brown eyes. My family is very large.

My family is fairly large. I have three brothers and four sisters. Their names are George, Thomas, Levi, Katelyn, Samantha, Alex, and Gina. My father’s name is Joseph. My mother’s name is Susan. My Mammie’s name is Mary. My coonhound’s name is Roscoe.

My home is roughly small. We have a chimney. Our loft has all of our beds. The kitchen is underneath my loft. Our home is in front of my barn. In front of my cabin is the Rock River. My father built my home along with my grandfather me and my brothers. Our house is very old it has been around for five years. My grandfather has lived here before us but we fixed the house when he passed away.

My mother makes very good meals. For breakfast we have eggs from the barn, potatoes, and a glass of milk. For lunch my mother makes ham and beans, my favorite. For a snack we have an apple an orange a banana or a pear.

My clothes are very warm. I wear the same type of clothes all year long. My mother makes my clothes, but some of my clothes are from my brother Thomas.

I have many favorite games,

but my favorite game is

stick and a circle. When you

play stick and a circle, you

have a wooden stick and a

short stick. I have many different games but this one is my favorite

My father works in the city. He has a job at the Kingston General Store. Some nights my father will bring home some fresh supplies from the store. My father does not make much money, but he makes enough to take care of us.

My mother is a stay at home mom. My mom cooks cleans and, cares for her children. She takes care of her children very well.

My mother has help from our slave Mary. Sometimes my mother Has to work in the fields, because my father is not home.

I have the usual chores for an 11 year old boy. Clean out the barn, chop wood for the fire, milk the cows, fish, hunt, and ride to town with father. My chores are very hard sometimes because of the rain and the harsh winters, but I do them anyway.

When I get in trouble my father will take me out to the barn and punish me with a paddle. My mother says it is my responsibility to do my chores . My father does not like it when I get in trouble. He says that the way I act is the way that other people think of our family.

My mother cares for me when I am sick. My brother Levi was diagnosed with polio. Since we do not have many medicines we can not care for him very much. I do not get sick very often . Because I am immune to it. My mother is going to try to take care of us the best she can.

Many people go to our church. Every Sunday my family heads to the city. Since our church is in the city

we have to wake up very early. It takes us about 45 minutes to get to the city. My mother has bought nicer clothes than we normally wear because my mother says we have to look nice for others.

In New Jersey we have one law that no other colony has.

We are not allowed to sell livestock out of the city. If we do sell them we will be held in the county jail until your bond has been paid. It is 55 if you get caught . The longer you stay the more you have to pay. My uncle Fernando got caught selling cows in the country and he is sentence 2 years in prison.

My school is very small. It is about as large as my home. My teacher is Mrs. JoAnne Hammock. My mother and father don’t have much money, so my school supplies are not very good. I don’t go to school very often, because I have to help mother in the fields.
