I started TREW seven years ago with two great friends, John and Chris Pew. We began with one simple focused mission—design the next wave of technical apparel for the core skier and snowboarder. Our close connection to customers drove product development and we grew and launched annual collections of outerwear and apparel with an expanding retail distribution.

Over time, we realized the best products couldn't be made in the traditional retail model. Innovation is slow, cutting-edge performance becomes prohibitively expensive, and our relationship with the customer becomes indirect.

R&D IN THE VALKYRSThis past March we made a trip up to Valkyr Lodge near Nelson, British Columbia to hopefully find some powder and test these products, and an array of new textiles and ideas. Valkyr Lodge sits high, 7,000ft, in the Selkirk Mountains, with high-quality ski touring right out the front door. It’s surrounded by an endless amount of micro-zones ready to be yo-yoed, with bigger alpine ascents within a day’s walk.

We brought our latest samples of NuYarn® baselayers, QUIX DOWN® insulation, and our new touring outerwear featuring the Dermizax® NX membrane. The mountains obliged with a good mix of riding conditions and perfect gear-testing environments.

The new layers and outer-layers were tried and tested when frigid mornings turned boiling hot under clear skies, our new hard-shells were pelted with 50mph ridgetop gusts and snow flying sideways, and of course the one pair of NuYarn® merino baselayers that I wore every day was adequately proven anti-microbial.

Backcountry Button-Up: Adventure is always just around the corner for the modern outdoorsman and woman, and the BC Button-Up is a durable companion for your city-to-mountain commute. Despite its heritage charm, the BC Button-Up packs serious performance. Both hollow core and wicking polyester yarns are combined with wool to create the base fabric, which is then overlaid with a water-resistant nylon taslan fabric on the shoulder-yoke. Merino Baselayers: Athletic Fit. Tops have extra length for tucking in. Bottoms fit snug below the knee for unrestricted movement. Garments fit trim around the body, with opportunity to size up for roomier fit.

QUIX DOWN® Garments: Regular Fit.Our down-insulated garments have a regular fit that can transition between mid-layer and outer-layer. Length is shorter than our shell garments for comfortable layering.

Freeride Outerwear: Relaxed Fit. Our original freeride fit is the perfect balance for resort riding and backcountry. The body fit is roomy enough to accommodate layering, while the length offers more protection and comfort.

Touring Outerwear: Athletic Fit.The Touring Outerwear has a trimmed fit, with focus on 3D articulation that reduces unnecessary bulk. The jacket is shorter than the freeride garments, and the pants are more trim around the thigh, knee, and bottom opening.
