TRENTON CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
THEME: "So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we
passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.” 2 Thess. 2:15
September 19, 2016
“The essence of childhood is innocence.
The essence of youth is awareness.
The essence of adulthood is
responsibility.” Andy Crouch,
“Culture Making: Recovering our creative calling”
This week I will have the wonderful oppor-
tunity to attend the 2016 Christian Schools
Canada Conference. I’m looking forward to a
time of inspiration and reflection through
keynote messages, workshops, discussions,
networking, worship, and of course fun; that
will strengthen and inspire me in my role as
principal and teacher at TCS.
This year Andy Crouch will be the keynote
speaker. Andy is a well-established author of
such books as “Playing God: Redeeming the
Gift of Power” and “Culture Making and
Culture Making: Recovering our Creative
Calling” and is an enthusiastic and highly
sought after speaker. Mr. Crouch is also the
executive editor for Christianity Today.
May God bless us ALL with a safe and
wonderful week.

Little Sparks Preschool
We are learning together what it means to be a
good friend and work together. Last week stu-
dents enjoyed working together in pairs to
search for eggs hidden in our classroom. This
week we will explore friendship through The
Rainbow Fish books by Marcus Pfister and add
alphabet activities into our circle time routine.
JK
This will be a short week for us in Junior
Kindergarten as Friday is a P.A. day. We have
enjoyed learning about the different things God
did during each day of Creation. This week we
will learn that God created fish and birds on
Day 5 and land animals on Day 6. Our theme
verse for this week comes from Genesis 1:1 “In
the beginning God created the heavens and the
earth.”
We have enjoyed spending time with Pete the
Cat and have said ‘good-bye’ to him. We will
begin a unit called ‘All About Me!’. A detailed
letter is coming home with your child outlining
key components of this unit.
Scholastic book orders are due on Wednesday.
Have a fantastic week!
JK/SK 5 Day
Kindersurpise
(5-day kindergarten students
from JK and SK)
We sure learned a lot about building last
week! We wondered about how houses were
built. After reading books and watching videos
about buildings, students enjoyed using what
they learned in their own building experienc-
es. Our theme verse for this week will help our
building "talks" this week: It is from Heb. 3:4:
"For every house is built by someone, but God
is the builder of everything." We will examine
some of the things God built in His crea-
tion. Students will also continue building num-
bers in creative ways. We will also explore and
learn about space, since some students began
creating a space center in our classroom last
week. Students are welcome to bring in space
items on Tuesday and Thursday. Don't forget
to check our blog for last week's newsletter:
mrsbevaarts.blogspot.com.
SK
We love to build in lots of different ways in
SK! So our theme verse for this week comes
from Heb. 3:4: "For every house is built by
someone, but God is the builder of every-
thing." Our theme song will be "God is the
Master Builder" by the Donut Man. We will
also connect this verse to the creation stories
this week. Students will meet in groups and
create something to show what happened in
each day of creation. We will continue to ex-
plore with our 5 senses in different centers this
week. The class will also co-construct the al-
phabet this week with "beautiful stuff." Don't
forget to check out the kindergarten newslet-
ter for last week on our blog:
"mrsbevaarts.blogspot.com." I apologize for
giving out the wrong address last week. I will
also email a link to everyone.
GRADE 1
Binder words: we, play, to - keep practicing
every day! It is exciting to see everyone
starting to read these words.
Bible: we will be learning about Noah's Ark
and the Tower of Babel. Our new memory
work is: Ps. 19:1 (the theme verse for our
Creation Studies unit)
"The Heavens declare the glory of God, the
skies proclaim the work of his hands"
Math: we are finishing our unit on patterning
and sorting. We have also been practicing
writing the numerals correctly and counting
to 100.
Creation Studies: We will review how God
made the different seasons and celebrate how
they are unique and different. We will also
learn about the Sun and its energy for earth.
French—Students continue to complete oral
and center activities to review greetings, the
alphabet and numbers in French.
Have a wonderful week!

questions. We plan to go to Presqui'le Park on
Wed., Sept 28 in the afternoon.
Our trip to Goodrich Loomis was great. The
LTRCA did a wonderful job introducing us to
pond life. Big thank you to our drivers/
supervisors; Mrs. Leaver, Mrs. Weaver,
Mrs. Blais, Mrs. Smit, Mr. Jackson and a special
shout out to Mrs. deWal for taking amazing
pictures for us.

Thursday on the names of different rooms in
the school.
GRADE 5/6 [email protected]
Grade 5/6 are currently studying a unit on
Biodiversity. They are learning about the
diversity of God’s creation and how each non-
living and living thing plays an integral role in
the health of our ecosystems. Presquil’le offers
a very specific program on Biodiversity free of
charge to Grade 5/6 students. We are booked
for visiting Presquil’le on September 30 from
9:00-12:00. If you are able to come along, email
me at [email protected].
Grade 5/6 has a Spelling test on Wednesday
this week. Grade 6 has a Math quiz on
Tuesday. This quiz is a review from last year
on, “Writing Numbers in Written, Standard,
and Expanded Form”. Our first Social Studies
unit is on, “Our American Neighbours”. I
thought this a fitting start seeing as elections
are not too far away. We are just beginning to
study the 50 states and learn where they are
on a map! Are you Smarter than a 5th / 6th
Grader?
French—This week students will be learning
about services offered in our communities
and different community helpers. There will be
a vocabulary quiz on Thursday.

activities, as well they will be working through
the big question: How can you be prepared to
survive through the harshness of nature?
A service project opportunity for
Gr 5 to 8 students and their parents:
Ebenezer CRC deacons have been asked once again to help the Trenton Care and
Share Food Bank with their annual fall food
drive by collecting donations door to door in
the west end of Trenton on Saturday,
Oct 1. They are in need of walkers and
drivers from 9 am to about noon. TCS is
asking students from grades 5 to 8 with a
parent or other adult to help out with this cause as an opportunity to serve others in
our community. Routes will be assigned at
Ebenezer CRC on Fourth Ave. at 9 am. If
you are able to give of your time, please let
Mrs. Korver or the office know by no later
than Wednesday, Sept. 28. The more help-
ers they get, the less time it will take to fin-
ish. Thanks, in advance, Mrs. Korver
Grades 5-8 Music: Students have been
assigned instruments and books. Students
need to have contract signed so they can
bring their instruments home. Please also
bring in $25 fee. Practice log will begin next
