November 2010The leaves are now starting to turn colors and the air is

becoming crisp. I'm thrilled to say it is that time of year againwhen we turn to fall and winter sports! As a new addition tothe Parks and Recreation team at Tremonton City, I've had awonderful time getting to know some of the faces of the

Recreation program. Sports were a large part of my lifegrowing up and I've been thrilled to see the children ofTremonton, and our surrounding valley, return for each activi-ty.

Sports are good for the body and mind and I think theRecreation program is a great start for those youngsters plan-ning and hoping to continue and enter into the middle, highschool and collegiate sports programs. Our programs are notonly designed for the youth, but also geared toward our activeadults who still like to get out on the field or court for a littlefriendly competition.

I want to say thank you to all our great volunteers whoare always willing to help out each time! I would also like totake this opportunity to thank all the children, parents, partici-pants, volunteers, my co-workers, and especially our CityCouncil for all they put forth to make our Recreation programpossible each season.

There is so much to do in Tremonton, and I hope to seethe smiling faces of our returning participants and welcomeour new participants to our fun-filled winter program! Happysporting!

33 VOLUNTEER AWARD

Daniel strives to make sureevery kid in our youth programsleaves with a better sense ofsportsmanship than when theyfirst came in. He is a great coachand leader, so if your kids arelucky enough to have him as acoach, know that you got one ofthe best.

The Tremonton Parks andRecreation staff would like to saythanks to Daniel and his familyfor their support as he has givenso much support to the TremontonParks and RecreationDepartment. He has been a majorfactor in making our programsbetter for everyone in our commu-nity.

VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARDThe Tremonton Parks and

Recreation Volunteer Service Awardis given biannually to a deservingperson in the community who hasdemonstrated a high level of serviceto the Parks and RecreationDepartment. This season's award ispresented to Daniel Ravsten.

For the past 10 years, Danielhas been more than willing to helpout with coaching, refereeing, scorekeeping, or just volunteeringwherever we needed it. For exam-ple, he has helped out with puttingtogether youth soccer rules thatcan make the kids understand soc-cer better, Just this last year wehad to put together a new rulebook for 6th - 8th grade soccersince we decided to go to a bigger field for thatleague. We wanted it to be as close to high schoolsoccer as possible since those age groups will begoing into high school soon.

Daniel put together most of the rules for thesoccer program. As head referee for theTremonton Parks and Recreation Youth Soccerleagues he has helped train most of our referees inthe program today, with his years of experience inthe sport Daniel was a great find for our soccerprograms. Daniel also has helped out with ourbaseball and basketball leagues, coaching, refer-eeing or volunteering in any way, but the sport heloves to be involved with most is soccer, and it isgreat to have him since we have soccer programstwice a year.

Daniel has three boys and one girl who havekept him busy with coaching for close to 10 yearsnow. We will be losing one of his boys to highschool sports after this year, but we are glad thathe has more kids and can help out with our pro-grams for many years to come.
