Treatment Product: The product is a film trailer with a magazine cover and a poster. The ancillary tasks will have clear links to the film trailer to help promote the film. There will be other promotional ideas such as a hashtag to use on social media. This will help spread the news on the new film through the medium which our target audience is most likely going to connect with. Target audience: The age group for our film is older teenagers/young adults. The age group is between 15 to 25 year olds. This is because our certificate rating for our film is 15. Concerning their lifestyle, they will most likely be in education and may have a part time or full time job. The film will mostly be aimed at females as it has a female protagonist which will appeal to women more. This is because they will be able to relate to the emotions of the character. The target audience will enjoy social realism films as they have an interest in looking at other peoples point of view. I want the target audience to respond to the product by enjoying the film and feeling like they have connected with the characters. I also want it to be a talking point in conversations so it promotes the film through word of mouth. It will appeal to the target audience as it will be suitable for the age range intended. We will have a niche audience because of the film genre. Social realism films are generally aimed at a niche audience. I have looked at other social realism film trailers including ‘Fishtank.’ This portrays a girl who has relationship issues and other social issues which I feel appeal to a niche audience and fit the genre conventions; therefore, this is what we will aim for within our film trailer. Context: The film trailer will be advertised on posters on buses, in T.V adverts and possibly in some cinemas. As it is a social realism film, it may be shown in art house cinemas as it is not a blockbuster movie which would reach a wider target audience and be more suitable for main stream cinemas. It will also be produced on DVDs and eventually shown on TV. Where the product is seen will effect design as I will take into consideration the target audience and make it suitable for them. Media concepts Media languages: The product style will be a social realism film. It will be an edgy film trailer that captures the audiences attention. I will use the generic form for trailers: opening, build-up, problems and events. This is so our film follows the general conventions and appeals to the target audience. We will use a range of camera angles and techniques to create our trailer. The lighting and sound will also be taken into consideration when creating the film trailer. This is so they match up with the camera footage to create a trailer that is relevant and appealing. The trailer will also include connotation links to the visual images. Ideas will be suggested rather than always shown. Institutions: StudioCanal UK is our chosen distributor for our film. When previously under the name ‘Optimum Releasing,’ they released films including ‘This Is England,’ ‘Tyrannosaur’ and ‘Blind Shaft.’ Optimum releasing ran from 1999 to 2011 when it was taken over by the French film producer and distributor StudioCanal. However, other subsidiaries such as ‘Optimum Home Entertainment’ still run under the old name and produce DVD and Blu Ray releases for home cinema. Our production company name is: SkyLine Productions We have chosen this name as it is a suitable name for a production company. The logo will be created further on in the process as we are focusing on creating the film trailer currently.

Product: The product is a film trailer with a magazine cover and a poster.

Media concepts

Media languages: The product style will be a social realism film.

Representations: The female protagonist will represent the social issue of friendship and how teenagers have a difficult time fitting in. This will conform to the stereotype. Also, the idea of the new group of friends drinking and taking drugs also fits in with the stereotypical view of teenagers. The relationship between her and her mother conforms to the stereotypical view of teenagers and parents arguing and fighting. However, the male character will subvert the stereotype. This is through him being kind and caring rather than the stereotypical view of men trying to show off.

Genre: The film trailer will follow typical genre conventions. This is so it is clear to the audience that the trailer fits into the social realism genre. This will include using the correct iconography such as location shooting. This may include using parks, houses or towns. We may use some wide shots to highlight the location to the audience, this is so the viewer has a clear understanding of the location it is shot in and therefore, be made aware of the film context. There will be both serious and humorous elements which are typical of a social realism film. This is completed by depicting triumph over adversity through following the main protagonist on her journey of exploring the social issues of neglect, alcohol and drug abuse and possibly group/gang culture. This is so our film trailer clearly portray the social realism film genre.
