Travel Try-outsBy: Sierra
Almost all of my friends play travel soccer, and I still play on a SELCRA team. So, in fifth grade I concluded that I wanted to play travel soccer with all my friends. But, I was a little fearful I wouldn’t make the team. So, I thought about try-outs and what they would be like, and resolved that maybe I needed to think about this; maybe travel soccer wasn’t for me.
I talked about it with friends and my parents. I found out what it would be like, but I just couldn’t find a solution to my dilemma. So I decided to give it a shot. Try-outs were in a few days, and I thought I might need to prepare a little.
Time for try-outs came up quickly. When we got there my heart was pounding and I was feeling excited and nervous at the same time. We got my number and pinned it on my back. I was #944. We warmed up, scrimmaged, and did some other drills. I tried extremely hard, and gave it my all.
The next day the try-out results were posted on the Michigan Alliance website. I lay in bed wondering and worrying about what would happen. Eventually, I got up and went downstairs. I HAD MADE A TEAM!!! The Michigan Express Red Team, or B team. I was so glad and thrilled!
I discovered that you should never give up, always give it your all, and go for it. You never know what could happen, so try! I am now very glad I tried out. I would be angry now if I hadn’t.
